January 24, 200323 yr I'm not very good with computers so please bare with me. I use XP home and ran defrag and that speeded up the voices somewhat. I've read the post about putting the above normal line in and am not sure where to put it. Does it go in the rcv3 exe file or the cmd exe file? and what is 96compac96 and where does that go? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom
January 24, 200323 yr Commercial Member the anchored posts at the top are very good at explaining how to do it. if you still have problems, post here JD Read my blog
January 24, 200323 yr When I right click the file I get a thing with 4 tabs and I don't know where to put the line. Thanks
January 24, 200323 yr Moderator Tom,Don't right-click the RCV3.EXE file. Instead create a shortcut to that file (either on your Desktop or via "Start - All Programs - Radar Contact" and right-click that icon. You will be changing the Target entry. Here's mine - you could just change the path to where you installed Radar Contact and it should work. Don't change anything before the word ABOVENORMAL.C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32cmd.exe /C start /ABOVENORMAL E:RadarContact3rcv31.exeCheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). January 25, 200323 yr HiI cant seem to get it to work, I follow the above and get a dos window and then nothing. Can you help a computer no idea guyCheersKarl
January 25, 200323 yr I'm having pretty much the same problem--a DOS window (opened to my Radar Contact directory)and no program startup. Here's my "target" line in my destop shortcut:%comspec% /C "start /ABOVENORMAL "C:Program Filesrcv30rcv3.exe"I'm running XP home edition SP1, a Dell Dimension 8200 with p-4 2.0 gig processor, FS2002, and ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128 mb, etc.Any and all help appreciated! This is a brand new installation, and rcv3.exe is installed in the C:Program Filesrcv30 directory.ThanksBill
January 25, 200323 yr Commercial Member too many quotation marks%comspec% /C "start /ABOVENORMAL "C:Program Filesrcv30rcv3.exe"try%comspec% /C start /ABOVENORMAL "C:Program Filesrcv30rcv3.exe"or save yourself a whole log of pain, and move the rcv30 directory to some directory that doesn't have any spaces.like c:flightrcv30then the command line is%comspec% /C start /ABOVENORMAL C:flightrcv30rcv3.exe JD Read my blog
January 25, 200323 yr Thanks, I re-installed to a single-word directory and it works as advertised. Thanks and cheers,
January 25, 200323 yr Moderator Karl,Please paste the line you have in the shortcut - it will help me work out what's going wrong. I also need the location of RCv3.EXE please.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). January 25, 200323 yr Keith, I tried your target with my path and got a dos screen then I tried your suggestion to Karl %comspec%/C start /ABOVENORMAL "C:Program Filesrcv30rcv3.exe"and got an invalid file name error. Tom
January 25, 200323 yr Just an update the error was two fold. First, I used the name Keith instead of Ray, I used to work with a fellow named Keith Proudfoot and it came out by mistake, sorry. Second the error said that the file name 96comspac96 was wrong and the system dropped the radar icon from the start menu. When I went to all programs and pinned the program back to the start menu I get a different icon.
January 25, 200323 yr Moderator Tom,No problem with the name mixup. Funny how us Proudfoots get around :-)I haven't used the COMSPEC option so I suggest you use the full pathname which works fine for me (using XP Home). Any path that includes spaces has to be truncated to the DOS equivalent. So, C:Program Files needs to be C:Progra~1Try that and see how it goes.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). January 25, 200323 yr and make sure there are no quotation marks. Also, from your last post, you have 96 instead of % (percent sign). Make sure if you do use the comspec variable, you use the percent (i.e. %comspec% not 96comspec96)
January 26, 200323 yr Thanks Ray & Scott the problem is solved and speeded up the voices quite a bit, Tom
January 31, 200323 yr HiI have this as default "C:Program Filesrcv30rcv3.exe"and this is what I try but I still get the dos window%comspec% /C start /ABOVENORMAL "C:Program Filesrcv30rcv3.exe"Running XP pro with all the updatesCheersKarl
