March 13, 200323 yr Hi guys,I was thinking of purchasing RC3 and have a couple of questions. With FS9 due out this year with new ATC features,I'm wondering if RC3 will be compatible with it and how much better it will be than this new FS version.Brett
March 13, 200323 yr Commercial Member since no one knows how "good" fs9's atc is going to be, hard to make a judgement call.but if history is any indication.....and considering that fs9 only implemented 10 atc features that were requested by users, and rc was about 60 features better than fs8......if fs9 breaks fsiupc, we won't be compatible. but there will be a whole lot of things that will not be compatible if that happens.....maybe you should wait and see ;-) JD Read my blog
March 14, 200323 yr Hi JD,Why would FS9 NOT be compatable with FSUIPC?so are you saying as long as FSUIPC is supported by FS9,RC will work or can/will be upgraded? Also if RC needs upgrading will the upgrade have an additional cost?Regards...Bart
March 14, 200323 yr Every version of FS has different variable offsets. They just love to screw everything up for the developers. Peter Dowson has to tear FS apart every time to make FSUIPC work with it. It took him up until this year until he's gotten most FS2002 offsets. And he still has no idea where the ATC/AI triggers and ground aircraft location tables are located, much less where the AI traffic plan info is loaded.Without FSUIPC no external program (like ActiveWX, FS_Meteo, RC, Garmin, whatever) works. If RC won't work with FS9, neither will anything else. Peter will know when he gets his beta copy.RC doesn't necessarily need to be updated to work with FS9. FSUIPC does.
March 14, 200323 yr Thanks for the reply Scott,I wasnt aware this was the case, makes you appreciate even mor the work that Pete doesRegards...Bart458
March 14, 200323 yr Moderator Scott,I don't think I'm giving any secrets away when I say that Pete is working closely with Microsoft and has been for some weeks. He already has a copy of FS9 and with a bit of luck (and a lot of skillful work) there's every chance that by the time FS9 is released to the public FSUIPC will be fully compatible.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). March 14, 200323 yr SO.................In light of this wonderful news,is RC going to work with FS9?I dont think this is an unreasonable question considering the closeness of the release date.I really would like to give RC a try,but not if its going to be obsolete in a few months.Bart
March 14, 200323 yr Moderator Bart,Not an unreasonable question at all. FSUIPC, in all probability, will work with FS9 when it's released. The current version of RC works with the current version of FSUIPC. Pete Dowson has a copy of RC and a early (alpha?) copy of FS9. I, as a member of RC's beta team am not in a position to say whether RC will work with FS9. Only John or Doug (the developers) can say that and I doubt they will commit themselves to that statement until they have a copy of FS9 and Pete's FS9-compatible FSUIPC.My own personal guess is that RC will work with FS9 and on that basis I would recommend it to you. Microsoft have publicly stated that FS9 will be compatible with any aircraft that was designed for FS2002 so it looks as though they are trying to improve FS but retain as much current code as the situation permits.Given all I have said above I cannot see RC being obsolete when FS9 hits the shelves this summer. I hope that puts your mind at rest. If you're a keen pilot you really will love what RC can offer you.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). March 14, 200323 yr There's no doubt RC will work with FS9. Since Pete and JD also work together (as we on the RC team mail system know), Pete keeps FSUIPC set up to ensure RC gets all the data it needs. That's the great thing about this version of RC, it just needs that one interface to work with all FS versions.
March 14, 200323 yr Moderator Scott,You've just stated what I thought but I didn't feel I had the authority to say.Cheers! Ray (Cheshire, England). March 15, 200323 yr Hi Ray & Scott,Thanks for your help,Im on my way over to order RC now,I live in Australia, can you give me a rough idea of how long it will take to get here.Or is there anyone else out there from Aus that might be able to field this one. Thanks once again for you helpBart
March 15, 200323 yr Moderator Hi Bart,I would guess at about a week. Friends in the UK who ordered RC seem to have received it within that time span and I can't imagine the Aussie Postal Service is any worse than the UK one. Let's face it - you beat us at everything else including our own game!! :-hangCheers, Ray (Cheshire, England).
