April 16, 200323 yr Here is a fair question:How does RC "know" which is the "active" runway at a destination airport?I recently "flew" my Corporate Citation X from KWMC (Winnemucca, Nev.), to KOGD (Ogden, UT.). On descent I requested Rnwy 3 (a straight in shot) and got it. However, Rnwy 21, it's opposite, was the active and I had a nice view of the undercarriage of an MD-80 taking off as I approached.Shouldn't RC have denied me Rnwy 3 and advised to vector over to 21?Are the winds/active rnwys considerations built into RC to begin with? Winds were calm, by the way.Captain Dadhttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg
April 16, 200323 yr Commercial Member rc doesn't know what the active runway is.somewhere in the manual, is described the priorities used in deciding which runway you will be assigned. (ils, runway length, wind - basically)rc will never deny you the runway you choose. and, if you choose the runway on the controller's page, that one will be given to you by approach regardless of ils, length or wind. April 16, 200323 yr FS2002 always picks the longest runway. You can modify these choices with a program such as AFCAD. There you can specify which runways are used for departure, arrival, or are closed.I think RC3 picks the first runway in the list at each airport unless you specify a runway when setting up (and, of course, you can request another runway by calling ground, or in flight, approach). At least that's my experience. The runways are listed in the file "r.txt" inside the RC3 folder. You can edit the order, but make a backup of the original file. April 16, 200323 yr Commercial Member if there is only 1 ils runway, i pick that oneif there more than 1 ils runway, i pick the ils runway most favorable for the windif there are no ils runways, i pick the most favorable for the windin all cases, i will not pick a 1000 foot runway, for a heavy.if the wind is calm, northerly pointing runways get pickedjd JD Read my blog
