". . . it will be less than a minute."

Featured Replies

jd:Upoin arriving at the active runway, I am (sometimes)issued a hold. The controller tells me that it will be less than a minute. I know that I am not a very patient guy and I thought it just seemed to me like these holds were considerably longer than a minute. Last night I timed two different holds and both were approximately two minutes. Is this timing affected by running "high" priority? The above is with build 1734. http://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg

sometimes the controllers are busy ;-) it's all random, you just hit some high random numbers yesterdaymaybe tomorrow, it will be 30 seconds :-)jd

I am using RC in the Realtime mode. Most of the time it is "Runway xxx, cleared to line and hold". I get takeoff clearance quickly thereafter. But when I am told to hold short, it is a two minute wait every time. I know that in the real world a two minute wait for traffic is not unusual, but it is annoying to hold up everything for two minutes in this situation.RichR

you're right, it could be at the most 210 secondsin 3.1, you won't be held short unless there is a plane on final, or a plane on the active runway :-)and then you will have to wait until there are no more planes on final, and no more planes on the runway. might even be longer than 2 minutes ;-)jd

Use that time to double check your double checking. :)

What's really fun in 3.1 is when those $(@*%& AI just sit and sit and sit and sit and sit until I finally go around them and request T/O clearance. Then when I'm past their, some random distance setting, they suddenly want to leave and FSATC gives them the clearance when I'm on the runway.Mr. Bill must be really busy at the MS headquarters (and I don't mean Gates).

>in 3.1, you won't be held short unless there is a plane on>final, or a plane on the active runway :-)Hi Jd, As in real life, I sometimes see the "string of pearls" as several aircraft are on final. Actually, with my ATC settings combined with all the Project AI stuff I've got installed this is often the case. I find that I can (usually! - with some nifty manoeuvring) take the active/line-up/hold/and take off in between the arriving aircraft. Will this be possible with 3.1 or will I have to wait for longer. I guess what I'm asking is from what distance to the airport does 3.1 "see" the approaching aircraft?...if you see what I mean!!Cheers,Paulhttp://www.strontiumdog.plus.com/sbird.jpgOfficially licenced by British Airways plc for use of name and logo

you may need to reduce your ai traffic, or choose another runway. if there are 5 planes all lined up for landing, you will wait. i don't know how long it will take you.

OK! - thanks JD. Think I'll choose another runway.Cheers,Paulhttp://www.strontiumdog.plus.com/sbird.jpgOfficially licenced by British Airways plc for use of name and logo

Paul,I feared that RC would be as restrictive as the FS ATC is, but it isn't.To give you a feel, I was asked at EGKK at the weekend and told to hold short whilst a BA777 took off. I was then cleared to line up with an aircraft 4nm on final. As the 777 banked left after take-off, i was cleared to take-off with the incoming aircraft now less than 2nm on final. I took off and he still landed!!Kevin.

Yes Kevin - I experience this all the time using 3.01, I guess maybe it wasn't clear in my original post that I am in fact a RC user :-) and the experiences I relate above are whilst using RC, but JDs statement:"in 3.1, you won't be held short unless there is a plane on final" ..made me wonder 'what if?'. Your "aircraft 4nm on final" it seems will - under 3.1 - result in you waiting longer. Ie. it would be more restrictive than 3.01.JD, please jump in and correct me if I'm wrong!Cheers,Paulhttp://www.strontiumdog.plus.com/sbird.jpgOfficially licenced by British Airways plc for use of name and logo

it will sort of depend on the runway length, don't ask. it works.

Yes it does. ;-)
