February 10, 200422 yr Ok - I'm SICK of FS2004's retarded ATC. Extended vectors, landing on other aircraft, no procedures, multiple handoffs...Can someone please tell me how good a job Radar Contact does with FS2004, and how taxing it is on a system that's already maxing out at 19FPS?Thanks!Gavinhttp://www.interprom.com/gavhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpgGavinhttp://www.interprom.com/gavhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
February 10, 200422 yr RC is just fantastic. It will make you a better pilot and you couldn't ask for better support. As for your system, my old one was about the same and RC dropped it to around 15fps. This was still fine, but any changes in the weather or scenery density and I could easily find myself as low as 9fps.I got around this by using Pete Dowson's FSUIPC module to get rid of any AI traffic in the worst circumstances and then turned it back on again later.RegardsMark
February 10, 200422 yr Commercial Member i would be surprised that rc caused a frame drop. anything else change about the same time you installed rc?jd JD Read my blog
February 11, 200422 yr I'm pretty certain that AdvDisplay is the culprit w/ frame rate drops. I usaully attatch it to a popup panel that isn't normally open.
February 12, 200422 yr Gavin, John, Rick and I (and our beta team) are naturally bias so I hope you get many RC customer recommendations. I will tell you a few things though. I'd be surprised if RC taxed frame rates, at all. I'm getting an average 20fpm on an average system. As to RC's quality, we've had flight instructors tell us they make their students review areas of RC periodically, sometimes before checkrides. That should tell you much. I hear your pain respect to MS's version of air traffic. Actually Gavin, they're getting better. 2k2's ATC was bad, just bad. 2k4 shows improvements. They do present things I wish WE could do but at this point cannot. For instance, the actual frequencies in actual sectors. I know they're right. I've flown the airspace I "control". But, as a controller, I'm not easily impressed. Though I see more wrong in MS ATC than right, in all honesty MS ATC will be "good enough" for many. You know how tech ATC can be. Precise, correct and exact ATC bores most people. If just putting your toes in the water isn't enough for you, if you want an IFR/ATC enviornment built by one hellofa programmer, a controller, and an incredible beta team... well, you know . RC won't be learned thoroughly in one day. We've put too much into it, far too many options to be learned quickly.Nice to meet you Gavin!Doug
February 12, 200422 yr Author Well, I checked out VATSIM, and although they've built an excxellent infrastructure, I'm just not happy about having to hope there are controllers on line when and where I want to fly.So - I'm sold! I'll be ordering RC!I"m visiting the States today - is it possible to have it shipped next day if I order today?Gavinhttp://www.interprom.com/gavhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
February 12, 200422 yr We do not offer priority shipping. But we would be glad to put it in the mail by the next morning. State side shipping has been averaging from 3 to 5 days.
February 21, 200422 yr Hi Gavin,Just to add a note to everything else said, the overall frame rate will also depend on what aircraft you're using. I virtually fly mostly with higher quality aircraft, and 2D panels in my particular case average between 10-15 fps. Virtual Cockpits for me tend to be a bit higher. RC doesn't drop frames in my instance. I'd recommend trying to offset it by playing with the settings in FS9 to get the rates up. Autogen and the clouds are two big frame rate eaters (I don't use Autogen at all). You can also make sure that there are no other extra programs running in the background (anti-virus, etc) when you run FS9. If you're an experienced PC user, there are sites on the Net that can show you how to super-tweak XP.In closing, it doesn't get better for ATC then Radar Contact!Hope it helps.Cheers,Mike T.
February 27, 200422 yr I don't have anything to add other than I fly with it (well busy with work and studies and all) and enjoy it even if I rarely post about it here! Great stuff, and it really meks me feel like I'm in the pilot's seat. Makes me sorry for all those kids playing the shooters.
