August 2, 200421 yr On the NavData website I noticed a AIRAC download for RC. Idownloaded it and it says it is self extracting, my questionWhat is the install procedure for this file? Can I really do this? What will it do when installed? Thanks in advance for your help.Skyhog
March 18, 200521 yr Am I glad I searched here first before installing the NavData AIRAC update for RC.So it is just there for the Beta testers of RC4 ???Regards,
March 18, 200521 yr Commercial Member i'm not using it in v4. the problem is that the real world and the fs world do not stay in synch.if a new vor appears in the real world, i sure don't want a flight planner using it, and then expecting to find it in the fs worldand if a vor is decommisioned, it's still in fsv4 will rebuild airports and runway data, since that is influenced by add on scenery.jd JD Read my blog
March 18, 200521 yr Thanks for the fast answer JD,So is the AIRAC for RC3 on Richard Stevan's NavData site just a big mistake ???Regards,
March 18, 200521 yr >v4 will rebuild airports and runway data, since that is>influenced by add on scenery.>>jdI use my own hierarchy setup for scenery and afcad files. These are of course in scenery.cfg.When V4 searches scenery for the db build, will it follow the scenery.cfg for the paths or will we be forced to enter add-on scenery in the default add-on scenery folder. Will it also look at afcad files to correlate navaids and runway info and build the runway db from that (including afcad files added)? This way after modifying runway privileges or navaid properties a user could have an RC option to rebuild the database. A user set closed runway or other limitations could be respected by RC such as certain runways for TO only and others for landing.A practical application to observe is the frequent cross runway use at KLGA link observable here:http://www.passur.com/sites.htm
March 19, 200521 yr Commercial Member it's still valid. but what you might end up with, like i described, a navaid or intersection that is added/changed/deleted in the real world, and is static in the fs world JD Read my blog
March 19, 200521 yr Commercial Member i'm going to have a beta tester answer this. i'm just a dumb scenery user. i just run the program and use the data.jd JD Read my blog
March 19, 200521 yr >When V4 searches scenery for the db build, will it follow the>scenery.cfg for the paths or will we be forced to enter add-on>scenery in the default add-on scenery folder. The utility that builds the runways db gets all its information from the scenery.cfg file. Scenery.cfg provides the location of the airport .bgl file that contains the necessary informatoin. If there are duplicate entries for a single airport, then the last one takes precedence.>Will it also>look at afcad files to correlate navaids and runway info and>build the runway db from that (including afcad files added)? The airport .bgl file stored in the /scenary file is the one and only file generated by the AFCAD utility. There are no separate AFCAD files to read.>This way after modifying runway privileges or navaid>properties a user could have an RC option to rebuild the>database. A user set closed runway or other limitations could>be respected by RC such as certain runways for TO only and>others for landing. To the best of my knowledge, runway geographical information and ILS information is all that is extracted for use by RC.Hope this helps.-michael
