ATIS crashes after several repeats

Featured Replies

When I start using RCV3.1 the first thing is playing ATIS. After ATIS is being repeated for 2-5 times FS crashes down. To avoid this crashes I have to call ground befor ATIS repeats for the first time. Otherwise FS crashes. Sometimes after the 2nd repeat, sometimes after the 5th repeat. But it crashes always, perhaps after the 10th, but it will crash! Normaly I use FSMeteo and PMDG737. But also using non of additional software (with FS aircrafts and no weather program) this crash happens. I also recognized in flight, when I call for ATIS it takes nearly 3 minutes to play ATIS and nearly 3 minutes to return to center. The waypoints I pass meanwhile are not recognized by RC and after returning to center I

if you do a properties on the rcv31.exe, you will see a build number. something like 3.1.nnnnwhat is that build number. i think i fixed that problem with the build i uploaded. make sure the nnnn is the same as the build number pinned at the top. if not, download the latest zip, and install itjd

If you recall I had that problem many moons ago with an earlier build under FS2K2. Now with latest beta FSUIPC from AS2004.5 under FS9 I do not get the crash early but it still occurs with continuous add-on audio even without RC running. With AS2004 if I have their flight watch audio running continuously I would still get it.I think perhaps there is a conflict between FS9 audio access competing with external program audio access not using whatever audio interface FS9 provides, if any.I also reduced this problem by not using any gauges requiring the old gaugesound.dll which requires that old-modules entry.I use an add-on sound card so integrated souns is not an issue. I occasionally still get an audio pause with what sounds like a buzzing/static data noise not unlike what I occasionally here when scanning real world traffic commo. Everything pauses when the problem occurs. It just might be related to the advdisp window when text mode is enabled but I can't pin it down. It is too random except for looping ATIS or AS2005.5 flight watch which is worst case.I have 500 MB avaiable before starting FS9 and add-ons.So my conclusion is any add-on making audio calls external to FS9 has a problem. So, what does RC and AS2004.5 have in common besides FSUIPC? Both programmed in the same language or run-time routines?Still on W98SE, latest RC build.

I don

I check my build of RCV31.exe. It was 2205. I updated it to 2269. But the problem is always present. While testing I recognized that advdsp freezes before FS crashes. So with the next start I unchecked the option "display text" in RC. Until now there were no crashes anymore!! Huhuu...But in flight ATIS still takes much time until it starts and much time to turn back to center. Even if I pause FS9 it takes the same time and begins speaking while FS9 is paused!Happy Landings!Marco

In your DX properties (DX 8, 9, whatever) check your sound acceleration settings. Use possibly one notch above basic and see how that works. Any more may cause problems.Which version of FSUIPC and ADVDISP are you using?

Also an inexpensive seperate sound card will improve performance in general because on board integrated sound loads down the main cpu which it uses for basic sound processing. A seperate card has its own cpu. There are other problems sometimes especially with simming or gaming using integrated sound due to the way hardware interrupts are shared. Some users on this forum have posted that even on fast systems going to seperate sound cards and disabling in your bios the integrated chip helped quite a bit with sound stutters.

Hi,I tried the latest driver from via for my southbridge an audiochip. No change (the problem was the same, the sound was terrible, so I rolled back to the older version). I also tried all settings of hardware acceleration for sound. Nothing changed.I stopped the time it takes to start playing ATIS and to return to center. It takes nearly exactly 60 sec. for each change and ADVDisplay shows "standby". I tried also several versions of FSUIPC and ADVDsp.

This time I understand I think what you are saying? Are you talking about the RC menu option when flying to leave ATC to get weather? This is not ATIS but weather at the current location I believe.Or are you talking about the ATIS report when you are on the ground along with the other menu choice for getting your clearance? If you are talking about the first option, the ATC controller will frequently say to standby, a few seconds pass, then allow you to leave the frequency to get weather, then you automaticly report back to ATC that you are monitoring for instructions again. I do not recall that phase taking a full minute. If you are looking for an ATIS report while flying there is an method to listen to FS ATC while using RC at the same time. Unless you have disabled FS ATC, you can use the ' key to bring up the FS ATC menu This will in context provide some FS menu choices that should include nearest airport ATIS reports. Check out this forum for running FS ATC menus and RC at the same time. You may get simultaneous audio for both.Your VIA on board chipset sound system will probably not do very well with multiple sound access so again I suggest you consider an inexpensive pci sound card, in the US available for as little as $25 for a reanably performing one, that will avoid all these conflicts. You should also post your FS version, system processor speed, Windows version, if you are using integrated video, and you installed ram. It sounds like you are experiencing under performance symptoms due to a combination of all integrated peripherals, possibly too slow a processor, and/or too little ram.In order to get the most out of any system with FS and its add-ons you need to shut down any not needed applications running in the background such as firewalls and antivirus software while not on-line. If you don't, and your short on ram, especially if your ram is shared for on-board video, you will not have enough resources to run FS, RC, and if used a weather add-on, very smoothly. In such a case your available ram for you flight applications as well as a software ram assignment called resources will not be enough and you will get problems as you describe. You will find references to all this on the hardware forums here on AVSIM that you might like to search.

I solved my Problem!!!!!!But I don

Glad you got your problem solved. This is an international community so do not be disturbed by interpretation problems.Using RC, maybe add-on weather such as AS2004.5, along with FS9 all involves complex procedures just like in the real world. It even gets more complex because of the requirement to use menus and set options to obtain the realism we seek. With all this going on, it is easy to make an error here and there and most of us have been there. This is one of the reasons this forum exists.I do suggest you stick with the latest build and latest FSUIPC. Then go over the Controller and Options menu after updating to note changes not described in the original manual and also in the update notes usually pinned in the update thread on this forum. No need to apologize at all.
