Looking Forward to ONE RCv4 Feature...

The interaction with AI. Got a visit from the FSDO after an Egypt Air heavy landed on my runway behind me.Went something like this:RC HECA TWR: King Air 18AF, runway 5L, winds calm, cleared to land.18AF: Roger, cleared to land, 5LMSFS ATC: EGYPT AIR XXX Heavy, cleared to land, RWY 5L.EA XXX: Roger, cleared to land. Now, I know that AI aircraft frequently ignore other aircraft in the pattern, and with the Aeroworx King Air that can cause a rapid, spontaneous down trim and resulting "lawn dart maneuver" so I was cautious. The heavy looked quite a ways back, so I figured that once I touched down, he'd get a go around. When I touched down, I heard this:RC HECA TWR: King Air 8AF, go around, traffic on the runway. At this point, I figure that I am screwed no matter what I do...I'm down, and apparently, there is a much faster aircraft right behind me...even if I pour on the power and try to take off again, that heavy will run me down.In retrospect, I should have poured the coals to it and declared a missed approach as soon as I heard the heavy get landing clearance.FWIW, I had a similar situation once at a Naval Air Station, when I was in a C152 ahead of an inbound F-14. Tower called, "left 360 for separation behind a Cessna on short final", to which the Navy pilot gave an exasperated "Roger, left 360." Come to think of it, I was the one getting the 360 at Long Beach, once.Looking forward to an ATC program that actually works the separation issue.Kurt

Maybe version 4 will pay attention to the type of aircraft at least declared in the options. Generally the aircraft with the most manuverability gets a breakout pending on the phase of final. I don't think the last time I looked at the FSUIPC utility trafficlook.exe which gives an idea of what its AI interface feeds back to apps using it includes the AI aircraft class (heavy, jet, tp, or p). If it did then version 4 could decide which aircraft fets a GA, breakout to hold/renter, or whatever mechanations are necessary.I do not think that other than speed control and issuing a go-around other commands are feasible for AI but then I haven't read the FSUIPC SDK just revised that would clarify that. I would certainly not expect RC to do any AI guidance requiring complete vectoring. jd does state that enroute he can issue (in V4) commands to AI I interpret as bearing and altitude deviations (and to you as well) for traffic seperation regarding collision avoidance. But if you are in a string-of-pearls situation on final this can get really messy - real world as well.jd will get it as best he can - always does.

Yeah, this is my main gripe with the canned ATC; especially with Ultimate Traffic loaded. Nothing more frustrating than having to dodge AI, or doing a go around that would probably never occur in the real situation. BTW, using crossing runway AFCADs from Project AI has helped the situation most notably in places like KDEN. I've been able to land there with 100% traffic with little problem. The penalty is that the AI traffic now ignores the prevailing winds and take off and land in all directions. For places like Newark with parallel runways nothing much seems to help except turning traffic down to the 60% level. Mike

For places>like Newark with parallel runways nothing much seems to help>except turning traffic down to the 60% level.>FS9 only pays attention to runway properties regarding traffic privileges when runways are parallel within a window of a few degrees. The AFCAD cheat is to create a STAR of very short runways (invisible) so all runways fall within this parallel window from each other. The "invisible" runway privileges are now turned off leaving the possibility of now functioning runway privileges on all visible ones. So with this kluge you now can have a perpendicular runway set for take offs with it complement at right angles limited to landings. When winds are weak enough, KLGA operates this way with aircraft alternating at the far end merge point. You can see this at:http://www4.passur.com/lga.htmlbut you will get a delay do to security delays and slow loading even if you are broadband. So go into AFCAD and make sure the "invisibles" are closed to everything and then set your properties accordingly.I "home" at KMSP where in the real world most traffic uses 12L/30R and 12R/30L. There also is a 4/22 used by some cargo and military cargo types. The way things are now even if I close off 4/22 AI still uses it. When I install the star version, I'll be able to shut it down.Maybe someday we'll be able to assign aircraft types or by airline to the various runways in a future version of FS.I haven't tried the star method yet but many swear to it.Of course, in RC I can request the runway closed to AI if I happen to be flying cargo there.
