January 12, 200521 yr Hi,I have had Radar Contact for around a week and I have to say I really love it, it is better and more fun to use than I thought, a lot to learn, but the forum gave me tons of answers, thanks to the great support.I have a few remarks and questions :--> I use the text display because English is not my mother tongue and even though I understand most of the stuff, it sometimes gets complicated. I noticed that, when the co-pilot has the radios, the text does not display. I think that it would be better if the text could display even when the co-pilot has the radios, what do you think ?--> That would also be nice if the flight critique could be saved in a log with the flight plan and date, that would allow us to keep track of our flights controller-wise.--> NOTAM and flex-dep for departure : it seems you can do a SID when you select NOTAM (and not flex dep), I tried it yesterday : I flew around the airport before going back on course and instructed the controller I was back on course, no problem. Does the difference between the two consist in the fact that, with a flex departure, the controller will leave you alone until you are 30NM from the airport and will not issue any altitude ???I read the manual and the forum but could not find a definate answer on this.Happy flying!!Olivier
January 12, 200521 yr Commercial Member 1) just finished updating the text display option in v4. you're only the second person i know of that has ever used it. the concern i have about displaying the pilot/copilot and controller, is there will be too much. there is too much to read/comprehend with just the controllers. if you keep the comms, you're actions will be driven by your menu selection, so you should know what his happening from those "commands". but i'm open to suggestions2) this was brought up late last year. i slammed something in to v4 to do this, and it sort of worked. it's a good idea, but i'm not sure it will make v4. maybe v4.13) flex dp is there for people who are leaving an airport, and there are multiple departure procedures depending on which runway you are assigned. flex dp allows you to fly any of the departure procedures, and then report on course when you reach the common checkpoint that the departure procedures usually share.you found a nifty way to sight see, before leaving the airport.jd JD Read my blog
January 13, 200521 yr Hi John,Thanks for your response. In 1, I think I did not make myself clear : I do not wish the text of the co-pilot was displayed, I just noticed that the controller text is not displayed when the co-pilot has the Coms in hand. I agree that it would be useless and messy to display what the co-pilot says. The issue is that if you do not understand what the controller says when the co-pilot has the coms, then your are in trouble. Does it make more sense now ?3/ I think that, if you only choose NOTAM, you can still fly anywhere, join the common checkpoint and then report you are on track. This is not really important but I do not really see the difference between the Flex dep and notam in that matter (NOTAM on arrival are very clear).Happy (controlled) flying,Olivier
January 13, 200521 yr As I understand it, NOTAM allows you to deviate from the controller's instructions without controller comment. The instructions will still be issued. (I always use arrival NOTAMS because I follow approach plates and it allows me to deviate if needed for AI seperation.)I have not used Flex DP but I believe it is like flying as filed when the first checkpoint is outside of the 30 nm radius and if not used you would be given vectors by ATC. Am I correct in this? This is really handy when you do not know in advance of making the flight plan which departure runway/procedure will be used.
January 13, 200521 yr Commercial Member flex dp requires you to follow altitude assignments, if they are given. notams, you can take the clearances or leave themjd JD Read my blog
