December 11, 200520 yr First off-looks like a great program-and so nice not to have all those screwy zig zag vectors.I flew my first flights last night and had a few screwy things happen.....I planned a flight from kfnt (a class c airport) to ozw (an uncontrolled field). Was cleared for takeoff at fnt on rnwy 36 in the Dreamfleet Baron. Wasn't turned on course (sw) till beyond the 10 mile ring on a north heading-I didn't have any ai traffic on-I would have been turned or been calling the controller in real life asking to turn on course well before this-is there a setting for this? The rest of the flight was great until landing at uncontrolled ozw where I was instructed to contact tower, ground control, and told to take the next high speed taxiway .I reran the flight-checked the freqs. in the RC program-sure enough there were tower, ground freqs. listed though not there in real life. I then ran the flight in stock MS-freqs. were correct here. From what I understand, RC gets the data from Fs-is there an error here-or does one have to check the freqs. for every flight to make sure correct?Next flight I tried filing my home airport Ptk-Ptk to practice instrument approaches. While this seems to work in Fs-it seemed to not work in RC as I was a good 30 miles out on a straight out and never heard back again from the controller. Does a waypoint have to be filed to practice approaches in such a fashion-stock MS seems to accept this? I finally requested to go back to the airport-and wanted to choose the bc loc 27 ptk which is the most used approach there. The Bc loc did not appear at all on the approach menu-I tried the flight again with default Fs and it is there-again a database problem of some kind? Thanks for any help.Also-re: the voices-I think they are excellent. The pause between words is what seems awkward-if they can be speeded up in the ways suggested below I think they will be perfect.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
December 11, 200520 yr Commercial Member no departure turns you at a given distance. there may have been ai that you didn't see and didn't realize would have caused a problem for an early turn to on course.did you turn off the tower and ground controllers at ozw? i get the freq's from the .bgl files, and if they are in there, then they are populated on the controllers page. and the field that you thought was "uncontrolled" is "controlled"i would check the freqs if you want total realismif you want to fly a round robin, from ptk to ptk, you really should put a checkpoint in the flight plan. and you should make the flight more than a short distance flight.you have to chose a IAP approach to get to the menu items that allow you to fly the bc loc 27 approachjd JD Read my blog
December 11, 200520 yr Author I'll check the no departure turns option. If the freqs are in the bgl files-why does kozw show up with a tower and ground freq but not in default fs without Rc running?I check the freqs-but on my charts and plates-are you saying that one needs to check them in RC also before every run? If there are errors in the database is there a way to fix this so this additional step does not have to be done?I did pick an IAP approach-my point is the bc loc for kptk did not appear as an option. It does in the default fs. Again-a way to fix/edit the database?http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
December 11, 200520 yr Hi there,I think jd's overworked ;-)We extract runway and ils frequency information from the scenery you have installed. The controller frequencies, however, aren't extracted this way. We have a data file which contains these and they may be different from the ones FS is reading from the af2 files. So, yes, checking on the controllers page is a good idea.On choosing a bc loc approach; at some point a menu option IAP should appear. If you select that you will then get another menu with the options to request particular procedures. If you select one the controller will assume you know what you are doing and let you get on with it.All the best,John
December 11, 200520 yr Author Ok -thanks-I'll check the controller freqs before each flight.I guess I am not clear on the last one-but a menu option IAP did appear and I did get the menu with options to select particular approaches-but the bc loc for my home airport was not shown....only the ils 9 and vor approaches.I'll try again-could have just been one of those things... :-)http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
December 11, 200520 yr Hi,When you choose the IAP menu option the BC LOC choice may not be on the first menu page. You may have to go to the next page to see it.However I think there may be a misunderstanding here. RC doesn't have a database of specific approaches for specific airports. The purpose of this is simply to let you state what sort of approach you are intending to use and to which runway. The controller will clear you for that approach but will not then provide assistance. The assumption is, if you've asked for it, you know how to fly it.All the best,John
December 11, 200520 yr Author Thanks for the clarification-I did find it down a few menu's.I guess the intitial menu which had ils, vor, vor a, as a choice, I was also expecting to see bc. Hitting the 9 menu for more options-I did finally find a rwy 27l to select-but it didn't say bc on the menu. However, when selecting it, the controller did clear me for the bc approach. Thanks for the assistance.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
