December 11, 200520 yr I just completed a flight Lihue to Honolulu1. I had thought the centers , approach would have names. Ie Honolulu approach, Honolulu center etc. Is that an incorrect assumption? Was like RC 3 " contact approach" this time around.2. I seem to still be vectored very far out from the airport[ A la FS9 ATC] IE about 20 miles, rather than a more direct approach to the final approach fix which is closer to 7 to 10 miles. Is this by design? Thanks,Greg Greg Clark
December 12, 200520 yr Commercial Member 1) too many names for approaches for use to record them all. all center names are recorded though2) ask for short final if the distance is too great. there is a lot of trig involved to make sure you capture the glideslope from below a little more than 8 miles out. john burgess and i spend the entire denver avsim conference making it work rightjd JD Read my blog

December 14, 200520 yr Author OK I am really impressed. Used short final option on vectored approach into Portland Oregon landing to the west, and it worked perfectly and kept me away from the mountains!Greg Greg Clark
