January 3, 200620 yr As long as AFCADs and APxxxx.bgl files are looked at by makerunways.exe, maybe gates and taxiways for each airport along with their location could be entered into a database. This would probably be a minimal challenge for genius Pete D. This would provide a gate choice list on the controller options for destination. If you want a real challenge then maybe Professor Trig can figure out a taxiway routing algorithm but that would be a very big job.Now only the records for the arrival and alternate would be placed into RAM when RC loads the flight so performance would not be affected later. The same technique could be offered for departure.RC6 maybe? Probably with FS10.At least the gate list choice and description of each gate with size and parking codes for airline and gate type should be easy preflight to put into the Controller Page code for departure, arrival, and alternate instead of guessing a phantom number or looking it up with AFCAD.This should be easy(?) enough to do for RC5 (forget the taxiways for now). I've seen a few posts here about gate selection so there appears to be user interest.
January 3, 200620 yr Commercial Member i'll pose that question to pete. probably another if statement in the makerwys.exe, and another csv file for me.so you just want the gates, and descriptions as drop downs on the controllers page?jd JD Read my blog
January 3, 200620 yr Author For arrival gate type (freight, pax, miltary, etc. as defined in FS), gate size (large, medium, small, etc. -- maybe radius to see if the aircraft fits), and airline parking code if available. The takeoff gate could have the same type of description so if you are creating a new FS flight you know which one to choose. This could make creating a flight easier selecting the start point in the FS create flight menu. Your advdisp heading/distance to the take-off runway help a lot and between these you should be able to navigate ground ops a lot better. Perhaps this can also apply to a preflight chosen destination gate ;) for future versions.
