January 22, 200620 yr Hello, I wonder why RC(4) offers ILS approaches to runways if there are no ILS facilities and frequencies available (in FS9 and/or in real life). Last night I tried an IFR flight from YPKS (Parkes) to YSDU (Dubbo). Both have VORs, but YSDU has no ILS. When approaching, I chose 'IAP' and then 'ILS', and was offered the choice between all four runways. As specified in the RC4 manual on page 201, "If there is an ILS or LOC approach available, the frequency will also be displayed". OK, so here were no frequencies, but I could still select Rwy 11 and the controller 'pretended' that I should intercept the localizer ... :-eekPlease advise why RC4 offers non-existing facilities. There's probably a very good reason which I didn't realize ;-)
January 22, 200620 yr Me two received the ils approch to RWY 07 on LIRF but there was not ILS approch to this RWY maybe on backcourse approach rwy 25.Anyway I was lucky to got chart for RWY 07 VORDME and land succesfull.
January 22, 200620 yr Commercial Member bad programming. but, the point of a asking for an iap approach, is that you have an approach plate in front of you, and you want to fly it according to the plate. since you would never have an ils approach plate for a runway without ils, you would never choose that option.same for ndb, vor, etc. i don't know what approaches are available for each runway of each airport, so i give you the full menu of choices, assuming you are going to pick the one that you have a chart for.maybe that helps explain the bad programming. going forward, only choose an iap approach, which you have an approach plate. problem solved.jd JD Read my blog
January 22, 200620 yr No problem - I was flying around noon local time and ASV provided me with nice VFR conditions, so I quickly reconsidered and asked for a visual approach, landed safely at Dubbo :-) and didn't even get scolded in the Flight Critique ;)You're obviously right, JD : No plate, no approach ! The other applicable rule : No frequency, no approach ! :(
