Wind discrepancy

Featured Replies

RC V4.01: the actual wind is 220 degrees/5 kts, but the tower controller says "clear for takeoff, wind calm". Why?? I tried it more times, no change.

James Goggi

I have had this occur also, though it may be due to the low wind speed? Anything below a certain knot, mabye 9 is considered calm?Ian.

Okay, looked online and <1 knot is considered calm but it may be the metar is somewhat old and the windspeed has gone down via dynamic weather. Ian.

Hi,I believe this is a world-wide standard. Anything less than 5kts is deemed to be calm.Cheers,

Hi Ian,I also thought that, but I listened to ATIS and it was still giving 5 knots. Also on the EHSI the wind vector showed 5 knots.

James Goggi

Sounds reasonable. I would assume that's the variable set within RC4.Thanks.Ian.
