January 15, 200719 yr Gentlemen:My PC (Wins XP) has a little thingy under the Start / Programs button that says "Windows Update"I click on it. It updates. Then I go back to doing other stuff.Question: Can we have an updater like this for Radar Contact before we all die??Your update requirements/procedures are longer than brain surgery.(And I'm not a Brain Surgeon.)Thanks.:-spacecraft
January 15, 200719 yr Commercial Member v5 should be betteri only update the beta testers through the update button in rc.jd JD Read my blog
January 16, 200719 yr There are way too many procedures for me to keep up with all these updates...and I usually just goof up the whole darn thing so nothing works afterwards. Will v5 work with FS9 AND FSX? My present version is 4.3.3843. Does that look OK to you?Thanks.:-spacecraft
January 16, 200719 yr Commercial Member 3843 is 4.3 looks goodway too early in the coding process to say whether v5 will work with fs9but i am testing v5 on fs9, so that will be important to melooks like you were able to follow all those instructions pretty well. almost everyone has 4.3 running, and i thank those who helped write the instructions that were clear and concise.this release was complicated on many different fronts. if it had only been a change to the .exe it would have been easy. but i had to work around a new makerwys.exe, which changed the format of the data files, which meant makerwys, fsuipc, fsx, all had to be set up correctly first.jd JD Read my blog
January 16, 200719 yr I guess I got lucky, that's all.FS9 runs perfectly smooth except for an occasional "crash to Desktop" after the 4.3 update. And it will "freeze up" now and then.Other than that, I have no complaints at all with your program - and this is my 2nd version of it. Thanks.Note: Did you know that now with cable internet service so prevelent everywhere you can here live ATC instructions direct from the source.http://www.atcmonitor.com/?lic=Would it not be fantastic if instead of the canned chatter we have now, to actually have your program "tune in" to the corresponding TRACON Centers around the world with only the programs instructions interspersed with the real ATC centers/approach/departure frequencies instead!!Something to consider, eh?Again, you are to be commemded for such a fun program!:-spacecraft
January 16, 200719 yr Here is another atc listening site for your enjoyment.http://www.liveatc.net/has alternate url links in case your firewall does not allow one type so you can use another. The url's play OK on Windows Media Player and should on any mp3 player.I use these when I'm trying to figure out runway use at particular airports.I run liveatc in one window and flightaware.com in another. Be aware that flightaware.com is delayed a few minutes behind the audio atc streams because of processing and a security policy. Thanks for your link as well. Here's another list of a different type of visual atc display:http://www.passur.com/sites.htmover geographical/street maps. These use javascript so make sure you are not blocking it on these passur sites.
January 16, 200719 yr Thank you for those web sites. It would be a huge improvement and an immense addition to the level of realism of this program if we could hear the actual Center Controllers on RC in each region that we are using FS9/FSX instead of the canned chatter now being sent over.Capt. Dad:-spacecraft
January 16, 200719 yr RC reinterprets the FS ATC instructions to AI. If you brought in real world ATC then you could get conflicts with your FS environment including AI flow and other issues even if you use real world weather.Version 5 is changing the phraseology somewhat to improve realism. You don't want to be in a situation where worlds collide.
January 16, 200719 yr Commercial Member i think it would ruin it for me. there would be references to aircraft that aren't in the air, the winds would be different, the pressure would be different, the runways in use would be different.i guess i'm not a big fan of ear candy, just to fill my headsets. my personal opinion. the fact that canned chatter is still in rc, speaks volumes about the beta testers and other users that like it.at least i can turn it off, under options :-) JD Read my blog
January 16, 200719 yr It wouldn't be a conflict if it was "live" at the moment. For obvious security reasons, there is about a 6 min. delay over the internet. Weather doesn't change that much in 6 mins. After hearing the same old canned chatter about needing to change course for the weather ahead, and "everyones' going right" it becomes kind of tiring - and I haven't even played with FS9 all that much lately.I can hear live ATC on my scanner from JFK, Newark, Laguardia, and Teterboro, NJ if I have to, I guess. Thanks anyway.:-spacecraft
