February 11, 200719 yr I flew EGKK to LEMD today. Approach vectored me onto runway 18R to fly the ILS... thats all fine but it didnt take into account the high ground on the approach. If I hadnt taken manual control CFIT would have resulted. Where does RC4 get its approach data from ?
February 12, 200719 yr Commercial Member there is no approach data. i follow the aiif there aren't any ai, i pick an ils runway into the windif there is no ils, i pick a runway into the windyou can always ask for another runway, or an iap approach.if you are flying into dangerous areas, you can also check the arrival notams box on the controller pagejd JD Read my blog
February 13, 200719 yr My guess would be RC takes notice both of wind contition and ILS avaibility depending on the afcad file for the airport...On the other hand, LEMD (my home airport) most common landing runway is 33L, and when we have winds from the south, southwest, 18R.(which causes a lot of trouble since just north of the runway threshold are quite large residential areas, while to the south, mostly industrial areas).
February 13, 200719 yr With AFCAD you can force runway closings with parallel runways. The problem is, with AI, is that both ends of a runway must be identical in privilege properties, i.e. both ends must be closed. This should with default and most add-on sceneries also eliminate each end from the RC database after you rebuild the index in FS and then rebuild the RC scenery database. You should try the latest makerwys.exe available at the FSUIPC support forum under download recent FS9 additions pinned topic. Make a copy of your current one.In your case if there is an 18L/36R you can leave that open and close the other pair.RC will recognize one way closures but unfortunately AI will not and AI operations have priority in this choice of runway. Not much help but we are dealing with FS limitations. Not knowing the specific airport layout, once RC approach selects the runway opt for another one but use the parallel in the same direction to coincide with AI.If it makes sense you can also use a crossing runway, if available, but make sure with a TCAS function available that you time your arrival so you don't conflict with AI taking off or landing on the intersecting runways.
