AIRAC files for RC 4.3

Featured Replies

with Version 3 I used to update the navigation base regularely with the latest AIRAC files provided by Stephan. The database is now provided by Navigraph but I do not see any RC AIRAC files.Question:Now I have RC version 4.3. Do I need to update the Navigation Base (e.g. AIRAC) and if yes where do I get the files. Thanks and regards Kurt

You don't really need AIRAC files because RC uses waypoints in your flightplan to determine the instructions for your route. Airport properties come from your installed scenery scenery both default and add-on.There has been much discussion regarding the use of the FMC with RC on this forum. Typically the complaint goes like RC does not follow the FMC. That's because:1. ATC dominates the routing, not your FMC, as in the real world. If you look at cockpit videos you'll see pilots twiddling the HDG, SPEED, and ALT MCP controls during initial stages of departure and final stages of arrival. Know how to manipulate waypoints on your LEGS page for direct-to routing, additions, and deletions after choosing to load FMC final approach data and you'll be fine in coordinating with ATC as long as your scenery matches.2. If your flight planner is not synchronized with your FMC that is where in most cases you'll get into trouble. What I do is use a flight planner that provides AIRAC installs (whether from NAVIGRAPH or the planner provider), import that AIRAC into the FMC database. Now that those two each have a concurrent database I export the planner output to both the FMC and to FS for RC's use.Regarding departure and terminal procedures RC does provide options that give you the opportunity to do your own navigation during those phases of your flight or, as is very common in the real world, get vectors join or divert from the common terminal (SID/STAR) procedures when those waypoints are included in your FS flight plan.As jd states, RC does not use AIRAC data in itself. It is more important for departure and arrival that RC derives its data from your installed scenery to give coordinated instructions
