Runways in MIA

Featured Replies

Hi!Had a flight out of MIA last night. Wanted 8L for departure since I was parked at the cargoarea. Discovered that the runwaydesignators in RC and FSX didn't match so didn't know which runway to request. In RC the runways is marked 9L/9R and 8. In FSX 8L/8R and 9. Been checking avaible maps and the markings in FSX seems correct.Using the default FSX scenery in MIA and have made a rebuild of scenery in RC./Johnny

what version of makerwys is in the root of the fsx directory? 4.1.2 is the current versionif that is what you have, open the file runways.txt, and do a find on kmia. does makerwys see 8l or 8r?jd

Ok, I had version 4.0. I have installed version 4.12 and been rebuilding the scenery and now the correct runways shows up.Thanks!Johnny

where is fsx installed?wherever that is, there will be a makerwys.exe file. hover over it, the pop up box will show you the version.or you can right mouse click it, and do propertiesjd

Thanks jd.I have now found it. My installation already had the latest version.

Version mumber is...4.1.2.0

jd e-mailed me an extract of your runways.txt file's pertinent sections but he says you sent the one in your FS9 folder. We need to see the one in your FSX folder. I'm confused here as to where these sceneries are installed. Here is what I've noticed in order from lowest priority to the top you have the default airport properties, an af2 file from Jim Vile (jv) which supersedes the default property, and a third file which supersedes those (the name was not on the extract). I do not know what items Jim included in his scenery file since I do not have that nor do I run FSX.The .txt file shows that makerwys is producing the correct r4.csv file. The jv file (which adds correct approach points for ai) as well as cross runways for simultaneous active runways on the 8/26s and 9/27 and 12/30. There is a higher priority file that I assume is in the the Fly Tampa KMIA folder. Check Jim's readme to see if that should still be active, but that appears to be OK as well.Did you ever have FS9? It suspect that the rc4.csv file created by the new run for FSX is not getting into your RC folder for FSX. Here's test for you to try.:Go into your FSX folder and with only a text editor (notepad or wordpad will do) open up the r4.csv. Do a find on KMIA and check the runway numbering. See if it is correct there. Close the editor without saving anything. If it is correct proceed to your FSX version rcv4/data folder and do the same there. If it is not correct then you have an old rcv4.csv probably from FS9 which had the old designations. In this case there is an error in your setup. Let's get this check done first and then let's go from there and we will try other things.Remember you need separate RC4 installations for FSX and FS9. Running the scenery builder based on your FS9 RC folder will not update your data files in your FSX RC folder.

I just verified the runways.txt file you sent is using FS9 scenery files. For using the Jim Vile ILS add-on in FS9 (kmia_ils_jv_v2.0.zip) you should be using his version 2.0 which for Fly-Tampa KMIA includes:FlyTampa_KMIA Scenery Users must follow these Intallation Instructions.1. Copy the FlyTampa_KMIA_ILS_jv.bgl to Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 2004SceneryGenericscenery folder.2. Copy the AF2_FlyTampa_KMIA_ILS_jv.bgl to FlyTampa-Miami's Addon Sceneryscenery folder. Be sure to either delete or rename any AFCAD2 file that is present and being used. Only one AFCAD2 file can be used at a time. (In other words change the extension of the AF2 supplied with Fly-Tampa folder for KMIA).You are not using his AFCAD instead of Fly-Tampa's if I am reading reading the FS9 runways.txt correctly. If you are using FSX then you need to use his file kmia_afx.zip but that is for the default KMIA only in FSX. I do not know what runway numbering the default uses since I do not have FSX. He does not state he renumbers the runways but I can not tell - he usually does. Fly-Tampa does NOT offer an FSX scenery according to their web site.Based on this if you are running RC for FSX and have set it up correctly, you will NOT see the renumbered runway arrangement and you will get the original airport runway assignment in FSX unless you install Jim's file and if he renumbers the runways. If you are running FS9 with the RC folder you set up for FS9 then you should be seeing the 8/26s according to your runways.txt in FS9 that you sent jd. Also insure that you have installed the v1.2 update from Fly-Tampa if needed. Check their description of the patch on www.flytampa.org in the downloads section.Again, in your start of this thread you stated you are running RC as set up for FSX. Send the runways.txt file to jd from the root folder of FSX, not FS9, so we can look at it.Remember if you are running RC for both FS versions, you must set up two folders with different names, one for FS9 and one for FSX. See the installation notes regarding this posted at the top of this forum. Then you must run the scenery rebuild separately for each version. So clarify which version of FS you are running and that you have set up a separate installation for RC using FSX.It is difficult to keep track of running two versions but there is no recourse.
