Climb Restrictions for Hevies

Featured Replies

JD and/or Rick,I want to bring your attention to a good discussion over in the PMDG forum regarding the old issue of 747's and other Heavies and the associated speed restriction of not more than 250kts/<10Kft. I think you'll find it informative and I hope that in RC v5, or better yet a v4.3 adjustment, we can have the option to request the "no speed restriction" during clearance in all parts of the world. I really like using the PMDG Queen and RC together so I hope a change can be made.I hope you find it as informative as I did.http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=141122&page=Regards,

For version 5 we are trying to get consensus among our r/w TRACON controllers. It also differs among the international community. For a while the FAA was being requested by the airlines to make speed restriction relief available to all jet aircraft classes. It was tested I believe at Houston and then dropped. You may find no speed restriction outside FAA areas now in 4.3 available on the Controller tab, not sure since I don't fly heavies.

As I mentioned in final thoughts in the PMDG thread, this really needs to be soft-coded in RCv5. Like you said, this debate changes over the years and differes in all parts of the world. Give me some choices in the RC advance-setup page or manual edits in an ini file whereby I can configure the 250kt penalty to my perceieved correctness. If RW pilots debate this, then why force the correct answer upon the end-user, let me decide. Also, maybe in those advance setup pages of RCv5, let me choose to receive the releif from clearance or from departure. Give me the option if there is no set standard upon which everyone can agree. As for v4.3, yes, IIRC, we do have releif in the RC menu if departure is outside the US. But, as the point of the PMDG discussion bears, I still have to finish my climb dirty up through 10K and according to those RW pilots, that rarely happens. So this is still in issue in US airspace in v4.3.
