Question for the team about AI aircraft control before purchase

Featured Replies

I have read many excellent reviews about the newest version of RC. In fact, I used RC back in the days of FS2000 and 2002 and enjoyed it immensely. With FS2004, I have for the first time used AI aircrafts, specifically with ones from World of AI. I have held back buying RC all this time, partly because I have noted some people have had difficulty with RC recognizing AIs via reading your forum's messages. So I think the time has come to get RC for my sim experience with FS2004. My question is: 1) Will I have any difficulty with RC controlling World of AI planes as I have enjoyed greatly having them in my sceneries eg Fly Tampa, Cloud9, etc.?2) I understand RC does not support VFR flights. Will I have the option to switch back to default FS2004 (and vice versa) ATC without having to uninstall RC if I want to fly VFR?Many thanks for your reply.Henry(My favorites aircrafts: PMDG 737 and Wilco 737, LevelD 767, DF A36, and freeware Maule)

1) most of the ai problems are from people who have run the update rc scenery data base.i also don't control the ai on the ground. if they run over you without rc, they will run over you with rc running. in v5 i will try to do a better job of ground conflicts. v5 is about a year away2) you don't have to uninstall rc, to run fs2004 atc to do vfr. vfr will be in v5 (about a year away)jd

Just to elaborate:Version 4.3 does attempt to offer protection on final via speedong up or slowing aircraft in front/behind.4.3 attempts to prevent ground AI from taxiing onto your runway when you are on final.4.3 enroute attempts to control ai to resolve traffic conflicts. It also announces AI in range for a potential conflict.I use UT2 and other downloaded AI packages. I do not see why WOAI aircraft would not be able to be RC controlled as long as they are subject to the standard FS autopilot interface.I have the Aerosoft US Airports collection by Fly Tampa as well as their KMDW. I also have freeware and payware airports. There is no problem running the RC scenery update that would affect AI.Occasionally for RC control when you run an update, you may have to move an airport's AFCAD file out of its main scenery folder and create a folder so it will run at higher priority by setting it in the FS scenery library. Be sure to get the latest FSUIPC for your FS version as well as makerwys.exe from the link posted above.

JD and Ron,Many thanks again for your reply. I believe my FS2004 experience will be complete...well may be almost complete pending any new scenery on the horizon for fs2004, with the addition of RC. It is on my Christmas wish list from my wife :)Happy Holidays,Henry
