I am posting this here in this forum - rather than the general FSx or Screenshots forum - because mostly the participants in this forum are already TP enthusiasts.Try this.In default FSx, go to airport FAYP and do a circular flight around the immediate area and land at FACT (Capetown International airport)- about 20 minutes. Then download and install the mesh addon files for South Africa to be found in the SCENERY section of AVSIM files. ( there are 5 files) . Then do the same flight in TP using using Service Provider 2.The difference is mind blowing!! - the addon mesh and the TP textures are what this Sim is really all about for me. It is a bit unfortunate that you have to fly slowly - but I have found that I am starting to enjoy not only flying slower a/c - but even looking for them in the FS addon places. :-) This area is of course the area of Capetown in South Africa - with the famous Table Mountain featuring prominently . The rest of the area is also extremely scenic - and I did not realise that capetown is so large. Barry

Hi In FS2004, if you made a change in the scenery library and added a piece of scenery(in a separate folder -not in the default ADDON SCENERY folder), it showed up as a new entry in the scenery.cfg file.I have just added a mesh addon to FSx - using the scenery library. It works OK - but I can't find a change to the scenery.cfg file. Is FSx different to FS2004 in the way it registers addon sceneries? Thanks Barry

Hi KevinThanks for that - they were simply addons to the mission folder - so it looks like I should be able to simply delete them. What I was mostly wondering about is the completed "tick" - obviously something must be changed somewhere for the tick to show.Barry

Having completed an add-on mission (and gotten the green tick) - is it just a simple matter of deleting the mission from the mission folder? Thanks Barry

Power assisted glider http://www.johnnycarr.com/swiftlite_PAS.html available here http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fsxac&DLID=117716 This is the PERFECT a/c for using with Tileproxy. I have been flying the Hangglider and the Piper Cub in TP (also the Cessna 172) - but the first 2 aren't particularly challenging to fly. This little beauty is another matter.Barry

There is a great need for GA servers -- VATSIM is almost nothing but IFR jetflights/milkruns. FSx has brought VFR flying much nearer.Barry

Hmmm - I have found what is causing the problem , but can't figure out why!!I had installed Alex Metzgers alternative Aircraft.cfg and AIR files for the Cub (found here http://metzgergva.de/default_e.htm ) and they are the problem . Taking them out and reinstalling the default originals gets rid of the problem. But, looking through his aircraft.cfg file, I can find no reason for this behaviourAny ideas??Thanks Barry

There are supposed to be 2 J3 cub paint schemes, Yellow, cream and red. When I select either the cream or red a/c, I get the correct colours inside the VC - but the exterior of the a/c is yellow. The texture folders for the cream and red schemes do not have as many texture files as is inside the folder for the yellow scheme.Anybody else noticed this??Thanks Barry

Hmm - I have just been flying around the Norfolk Broads area in the UK (will be there for a couple of days next month) - and while I have been reasonably happy flying the Cessna at 120 Knots, I have just had a better expereince with TP flying the ultra-light at around 60 Knots. Much clearer ground textures - especially those up close to the a/cBarryhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/187352.jpg

I am wondering whether the Sim is actually updating all the textures while on the fly - I can PAUSE the Sim for quite a while and all the TP "ovals" are full, but the near textures are not really clear. If I then reload the sim textures via the "RELOAD SCENERY" command in the Sim, I then get much clearer textures close-upBarry
-
My FSx/TP installation is working really nicely. However , one thing that seems to be setting it back is that I can't seem to get the same clarity of ground textures in the Sim as what I can see in the browserFor example, in the browser, you can zoom right in (equivalent to flying low??) and see high res textures clearly (where they are available). But in the Sim, flying low makes everything look worse - and to me, it seems that you need to fly around 3500 feet to get a nice representation.I have tried a number of different level re-mapping schemes in the INI file - but not achieving what I am looking for. It also seems that many times, the clarity of the textures closest to the a/c are in fact less clear than those a bit further away (in front of the a/c) - this seems to be the same whether I have used remapping or not.Any thoughts please? Thanks Barry

Hi AristaThanks for that - I can see exactly what you are saying. This is from the web browser. You can see how it compares to the shot from within the Sim http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/187278.jpgBarry

Hi MikeYour initial "fix" is easily found by the search function here. My problem is that I have this problem when using SP1 - I don't think your fix is for SP1. is it?RegardsBarry
-
Especially cumulus. Sometimes I have them and at other times, I don't.BTW - I have SP1 installed (I did have SP2 installed, but got rid of it because it seemed to be causing problems to my system) I realise that there has been some discussion of a "fix" for this problem - but then there was further discussion as to whether it worked for SP1 or only SP2. What is your experience? Thanks Barry
-
Mike I am now convinced that the problem lies with the Service Provider - because here are 2 shots -- one with the problem in the Solent area and another without the problem at Brighton - both taken on the same flight.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/187272.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/187273.jpgThat Marina at Brighton looks like it would be worth a trip from London to Brighton - just to see the marina!! I will be in London in 3 weeks time - and being an "old" yachtie, I like this kind of thing. That would have to be the biggest marina I have seen anywhereBarry

Hi MIkeYour INI file is identical to mine - Service Provider 1 and an altered Level remapping. That remapping is possibly a bit ambitious if you only have a slow Internet connection - but I have tried both that mapping and default mapping with the same result. I think that possibly the problem lies with the Service provider. I seem to get inconsistent results with TP - the "quality" of the textures obviously vary with the place in the world - but , I have been trying out southern UK ( as I will be visiting shortly) and I seem to not get as good a view/resolution out the cockpit window ( and the worse is directly under the a/c) than what I can see in the browser looking at Service provider 1's maps. Ie lower res textures in the Sim that in the browser . It doesn't seem to matter if I hit PAUSE and let the download catch up, I have to actually reset/reload the sim scenery (which reloads it) to catch up.BTW - I think that the only scenery that gets eliminated by TP is autogen - that is why you can see the addon scenery in TPBarry

Yes Nick - that is the answer. I was not aware that the texture res and the mesh res are tied together. All working fine now.Barry
-
Thanks for that Nick - I think I understand it now. I have regenerated a new FSx file and it started working again. So , although I could not understand why, I at least had it working again. But your post has reminded me of something - recently, while experimenting with Tileproxy, I had changed my texture resolution to 30 cm - perhaps this is why the Mesh res suddenly locked to 38m??I will place the old FSx.cfg file back in and see. Thanks Barry
-
I have just realised that I can't change my mesh resolution. Since I installed FSx , I have changed my mesh res within the Sim settings from either 38m to 76 m depending on where in the world I was flying. But I have just realised that the mesh is not changing. If I set say 76 m in the sim then it changes the mesh number in the FSx.cfg file to 20 (which is the number for 38 m mesh) . If I set it to 19 in the CFG ( the number for 76 m mesh ) then after I have started the Sim, the slider shows it set for 38m and the number in the CFG file has been set back to 20.In other words, the only mesh res I can get is 38mAny ideas?/Thanks Barry

Hi MikeI have been getting something similar ( though not quite as bad) while flying around the Solent. What Service provider are you using? - and what settings in your iNI file?Barry

Hi Thanks for that - yes, I have altered the cell sizes of both my autogen trees and buildings.Actually, I think the answer is to do away with the autogen completely. Firstly it looks terrible - Glistening/scintillating trees. And secondly , it is out of place. Just did a flight over the Isle of Wight in the UK. Buildings everywhere - looks completely wrong. It appears that the ground textures these days are pretty good - good enough to fly without autogen.Barry

HiI have only recently installed FSx (with SP1 only - SP2 caused me problems).I get quite flyable performance from my Dual Core machine - but after having flown it for a while and played around with the sliders, I have come to the conclusion that Autogen is the BIG killer on my machine.Actually , there also seems to be something else strange happening with Autogen. I just did the Mission Number 9 which involves a jet landing at Glagow Airport. FPS were very flyable (even on the final approach) until I actually landed at Glasgow, when they fell to single figures . After that, reducing the Autogen to Zero would bring FPS back up again - and than re-setting Autogen to some low setting would allow it to remain like that - UNTIL I moved the POV with the hat switch - at which time the FPS would plummmet again.Strange indeed - but anyway, it looks like it is the autogen that is straining my system. Any fixes for this been brought out over the past 18 months??Thanks for any adviceBarry

Thanks for that - found it and all is OK -- BUT I also have a scenery.cfg file in my FSx root directory??(which appears to be from the original- ie no addons) Barry
