  1. HiI've always been upset by circular objects e.g. panel gauges often not appearing circular and, because I had not thought it thro' clearly I put it down to using a non 4:3 (1.333:1) ratio resolution eg 1280x1024 which is 1.25:1.In actual fact this of course is only the PIXEL ratio which causes the image on a 1.333:1 tube to have better vertical resolution than horizontal thus giving horizontal objects better definition than vertical ones but having no effect on the image ratio. On further consideration I realised that the image ratio full screen was very different from the window image as usually encountered, this being vertically reduced by the title bar plus the menu bar plus the task bar. I know not everyone has all these visible but this only affects the degree of error. My solution to the anomally is to set my window for Flight sim use to be vertically maximum screen but horizontally reduced to give the actual image area a 1.333:1 ratio which automatically makes it equal ratio to my full screen flying mode. This setting should allow for removal of menu bar or task bar or both if you view this way.All this of course is just common sense but I for one was woolly minded.ken ellis
  2. HelloA small point which bugs me slightly. In all my years of MS flightsimming I have always had this difficulty in lining up the runway so as to be exactly perpendicular to the screen vertical axis when landing manually. I, ages ago made a little aid which placed a faint dotted cursor vertically(on a transparent bitmap on window07)which could be activated by a joystick button and which would appear on whatever panel display I wished.I always wished that the minipanel could have this cursor permanently present but this is not possible since the minipanel does not accept a bmp file, or am I missing something? Also now under FS9 the minipanel is added as a panel.cfg window and this seems to upset my original method of implementing the modification.Since no panel sdk is issued I wondered if one of you panel gurus would comment.Thanksken ellis
  3. Hello allI'd just like to bring this immensely useful freeware gauge to the attention of those who may have missed it.The author is Rob Barendregt and his work is excellent, I had some troubles at first but after some correspondence with Bob he immediately worked out a solution. Two versions are in the Avsim library and I am sure the additional fix will follow soon.Regards to allken ellis
  4. Hi RobSorry, no success - I can occasionally get correct operation but usually only partial working.ken ellis
  5. Hi AllI too have this scenery in my FS9 BUT I find an AI SOAR 777 is parked right through the airport building and projecting at each end !! I feel there is a misalignment here 2002 vs 2004 any one else seen this?Regards to all.ken ellis
  6. HelloI have asked this once before but got no reply, now that the first flush of FS9 problems real, imagined or self inflicted has died down here goes again. In FS2002 I was easily able to change the red on screen messages like the "press P to..." to either nothing or my abbreviated versions like "PB" for "Parking Brake" etc. by using a hex editor on "english.fll" in FS root.I cannot find this file or one which does the same thing, can anyone help?Regardsken ellis
  7. "PFFokker 70/100" HelloHas anyone succesfully installed these excellent FS2k2 aircraft in FS9?My experience is as follows:Installed as the fs9 update (including the FSSound.dll) info on their site. When the aircraft are selected I get message "Unable to load gauges/PF10070 Blanski.gau"and"Unable to load XMLSound.gau."These gauges are in my FS9 Gauges file of course. The aircraft are present and work ok except of course for the AP's absence.ken ellis
  8. HelloIn FS2k2 I modified the red text messages to my preference e.g. "PB" for parking brake.I used a hex editor in the "english.dll" file.Anyone know where they are buried in FS9?Thank you.ken ellis
  9. HelloI keep seeing posts about panel useage with the excellent Rafi aircraft and would like to add my choice.I have for several years been a keen registered user of Tony d'Ambrosio's REALCRT series and have modified several of them to suit my preferences.I wonder if any graphics guru could help with the appearance of the MCP, the text always shows as "blotchy" and detracts from what would otherwise be a good looking panel and try how I may in my crude way I am unable to get any improvement. Also if one tries to use the REALCRT ND in a panel displayed at higher resolution than 1024x768 the proportions of the text reduces unrealistically.Even with the above disadvantages I still find the panels with the simple FMC to be visually preferred to most other more recent offerings (the complex PSS series excluded) and if Tony were to re-enter the arena I for one would be delighted to upgrade and pay to use his products.I think his files are still available, search for "Tony d'Ambrosio"
  10. I never know how trim is quantified, you mention +7.5-9.5 for 747 but how does one gauge this. Most trim gauges are ambiguous,e.g. PSS FMS usually recommends 3.2 but how do we set this other than guesswork?I have two proprietory trim gauges which bear no relation to each other - needs some clarification.ken ellis
  11. Hello RandyJust an aside from your theme. The frame rate question continues but have you not noticed the distortion on your C172 panel - to me this is very upsetting to the eye and due to your using an incorrect screen aspect ratio! Note how in your later SM260 panel there is no distortion.1280/1024 = 1.25 to 1 incorrect1600/1200 = 1.33 to 1 correctI do feel this should be made clear to all and elliptical gauges killed off for ever.ken ellis
  12. Hello allHave not used the above util for some time and now when I try to load the message is:"Threed32.ocx not correctly registered:file is missing or invalid"It IS missing and reinstalling via "VBRUN603.exe" does not install it.I have installed XP prp sp1 and DirectX 9 since my last use.Anyone had similar??regardsken ellis
  13. Hello MarvelMy experience on changing from 98 to XP Pro:Ihave certainly had added stability - I can work the computer all day without a single reboot.NTFS is much more stable than FAT and has never let me down since converting to it.Cons:I hated the graphic interface and my first job was to set everything back to "classic" interface.I have no use for all the networking additions so had to trawl the web to find how to disable them without affecting the way I wanted the system to work for me.Now I get excellent operation of FS2k2 and must get back to it.Regardsken ellis
