  1. After a crash I now have different Hard Disk positions. All the FSX stuff is intact. I have managed to reinstate all except PDMG which on trying to reinstall the following occurs. It is unable to locate fsx.exe and the readme says: This installer will search for your flight simulator installation as itis reported by the registry on your machine. If you have moved your flight simulator installation, or if you deleted it and re-installedin a new location without updating the registry on your computer, youmay be told by this installer that it cannot find your MSFS installation. If this message is displayed, you must manually navigate the installerso that it points to your default MSFS installation directory, or thisairplane will not install correctly. How do I effect the navigation, the installer closes.RegardsKen Ellis
  2. Hi VictorI think the only UK credit card which doesn't charge a fee is the "Nationwide" Visa. The rest make a small charge, I think they call it a Forex fee.RegardsKen
  3. HiThanks guys, reinstalled and all back ok, careless use of system restore I think.
  4. Hi allI just noticed that Andre Folkers handsome Level D 767 3D panel bmp's no longer work (or have I some other fault causing this?).A great shame, he must feel gutted.ken ellis

  6. Hi y'allMaybe for some of us the sparcity of uploads can be beneficial, I remember my almost frenzied download/install/chase up updates/test routine when FS9 was at its peak of popularity and I had so little time for flying or even running tutorials for the likes of Level D and PMDG.Now I am catching up a little since downloading etc. takes up less time. This is slightly tongue in cheek since my enjoyment of the hobby is still as high.
  7. Hi ThomasThanks for the tip - worked #### a charm.Nor have I flown the albatross, it's even older than I am (a bit)Thanks again.
  8. HiI wonder has anyone tried to install the excellent Albatros DIII in FSX, I find that it works very well EXCEPT that the window is cut off about a tenth of the height from the bottom on all views except the 2D panel. The desktop is visible in the gap. This is the only imported aircraft displaying this fault in the ones I have tried.ken ellis
  9. Hi BertYes, I have experimented with this before but the problem is that many panels DO extend to the top of window so without major surgery (via FS Panel Studio) for instance, to every individual panel, I have not yet found a universal panacea.Living with the loss of say 24 mm vertically with a window must be set against the angst of the above so until a better solution comes along that is what I must do.Another associated problem I notice concerns the use of widescreen (16 x 9) monitors for fs use.In a recent review of a 707 by Mike T he shows several screenshots of the panel with such a monitor. I wonder if I am hypersensitive to the aspect ratio distortion since it spoils the whole image for me.When I visit houses which have a widescreen TV I notice that many still keep the 16 x 9 aspect to view 4 x 3 images and are unperturbed at the effect so I guess I am a minority in being sensitive to it.regardsken
  10. Hi AndreasUnfortunately 17" & 19" LCDs have a native resolution of 1280 x 1024 which gives an aspect ratio of 1.25/1 instead of 1.33/1 (4x3).This res. MUST be used in order to preserve quality of image. This gives unnaceptable distortion of circles and squares from a 4 x 3 image full screen so the only solution is using windowed mode which more or less corrects this.regards

Place it in the Radio panel works fine.See email.ken ellis
  12. HiI notice your squares are rectangles and your circles are elipses ! May have something to do with your problem. Suggest you try using a ratio which gives a correct Horizontal/Vertical ratio. On reflection I don't see how this can be affecting fonts but you will get a non distorted image.ken ellis

  14. HiEasy to get correct aspect ratio if you run in a window (forced to with LCD monitors)

    Which addon?, I am intrigued

Hi PaulActually it does if you use full screen but in window mode the Title bar plus the menu bar plus the taskbar all conspire to bring the ratio down to 4:3 thus giving round gauges as designed. This bugged me when I first got my 19" BenQ TFT but I have learned to live with window mode.Any other ratio with my TFT gives inferior graphics. As an aside, a CRT monitor set to a 4:3 ratio distorts in window mode and not in full screen.Regardsken ellis
  17. HelloInterestingly I have just this week obtained a TFT monitor, it is a benQ FP991 which is near top of range obtainable today. Some points I have already discovered: The native resolution is 1280x1024 (like all or most TFTs)and any other setting of the graphics card degrades the image. This leads to a problem with FS9's aspect ratio when using full screen insofar as the panels use a ratio of 1.33:1 and the monitor cannot be changed from 1.25:1 and we are left with elliptical gauges which should be circular. My solution which is not very satisfactory is to use "windowed" mode and crop the window to give the correct aspect ratio. It would be possible to modify panels using FS Panel studio but then windowed mode would present a few problems and anyhow I couldn't face the task of modifying all my panels.Otherwise the image is absolutely crisp and clear and I have not as yet noticed any other negatives. Will post again after I have more experience.ken ellis
  18. HelloThanx for the reply, it sent me on a 2 day saga searching for answers, you are correct in your view that AA level influences the magnitude of the hesitancy, but this is only quite minimal. I eventually had to re-install fs9 before the problem was solved. Strange since fs was working perfectly in all aspects save fsnav/fullscreen.Regardsken ellis
  19. HiI usually fly in a window but just noticed that when flying full screen FSNav takes 2 to 3 seconds to revert to FS image 0n f9 press whereas in windowed mode it is instantaneuos, is this normal?Thanksken ellis

Hi AlexWhat a generous offer to perform a much needed service, I for one would be an early downloader, the Word document idea sound eminently desirable.Best regardsken ellis
  21. Hi WolfgangYou seem to have had the same idea as i had which was to make the two main gauges larger and more readable by means of a new bitmap and by means of FSpanelstudio and sacrificing the little used clock achieve this end.I too found that the clock had to be present but I managed to shoehorn it in and now have a fully readable version of probably the best freeware panel available.I also used the same techniques on various panels using the excellent (fs98 vintage) realcrt series gauges. The Jan 01 bug caused me hours of chasing before I spotted the patch on Eric's site.Regards
  22. HiI've always been upset by circular objects e.g. panel gauges often not appearing circular and, because I had not thought it thro' clearly I put it down to using a non 4:3 (1.333:1) ratio resolution eg 1280x1024 which is 1.25:1.In actual fact this of course is only the PIXEL ratio which causes the image on a 1.333:1 tube to have better vertical resolution than horizontal thus giving horizontal objects better definition than vertical ones but having no effect on the image ratio. On further consideration I realised that the image ratio full screen was very different from the window image as usually encountered, this being vertically reduced by the title bar plus the menu bar plus the task bar. I know not everyone has all these visible but this only affects the degree of error. My solution to the anomally is to set my window for Flight sim use to be vertically maximum screen but horizontally reduced to give the actual image area a 1.333:1 ratio which automatically makes it equal ratio to my full screen flying mode. This setting should allow for removal of menu bar or task bar or both if you view this way.All this of course is just common sense but I for one was woolly minded.ken ellis
  23. HelloA small point which bugs me slightly. In all my years of MS flightsimming I have always had this difficulty in lining up the runway so as to be exactly perpendicular to the screen vertical axis when landing manually. I, ages ago made a little aid which placed a faint dotted cursor vertically(on a transparent bitmap on window07)which could be activated by a joystick button and which would appear on whatever panel display I wished.I always wished that the minipanel could have this cursor permanently present but this is not possible since the minipanel does not accept a bmp file, or am I missing something? Also now under FS9 the minipanel is added as a panel.cfg window and this seems to upset my original method of implementing the modification.Since no panel sdk is issued I wondered if one of you panel gurus would comment.Thanksken ellis
  24. Hello allI'd just like to bring this immensely useful freeware gauge to the attention of those who may have missed it.The author is Rob Barendregt and his work is excellent, I had some troubles at first but after some correspondence with Bob he immediately worked out a solution. Two versions are in the Avsim library and I am sure the additional fix will follow soon.Regards to allken ellis
