January 1, 200620 yr I just got myself an 21" LCD screen with 1600x1200 resolution. Wow! What a difference! I enjoy it a lot for flight simming. But my panels look now ... well ... stretched. Most of them are 1200 bitmaps which doesn't look very pretty on a 1600 screen; They loose on sharpness.Question: Are there any panels (free- or payware) available, which are optimized for the 1600x1200 resolution?Greg

At one point you are saying they are 'stretched' and then that they are not sharp. Is it one or both? Most aircraft panels are designed for 4:3 aspect ratio which your 1600:1200 is (I am using 1280x960) so they definietly shoud *not* look stretched. Sharpness is a totally different thing.Michael J.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_beta_member.jpg Michael J.
January 1, 200620 yr >Not sure I uderstand your message. At one point you are saying>they are 'stretched' and then that they are not sharp. Is it>one or both? Both. They are stretched in both directions (width and height) from smaller bitmaps (zoomed). The aspect ratio looks ok. But in this zoom process they loose sharpness. To rephrase my question: Are there any panels available with background bitmaps of 1600x1200 pixels?Greg
January 2, 200620 yr The PMDG 747 and the Lago MD-80 both use some 1600x1200 native resolution panel bitmaps. Not sure that's going to translate into a clearer image, though.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
January 2, 200620 yr Something must be wrong with your installation i guess: though I have only an 21" CRT, 1600x1200 is the only resolution I use, and neither of my panels is stretched anyway.1600x1200 is a 4:3 aspect ratio and thus perfectly suited to display any FS panel without problems. Maybe you'll get some side effects like stepped lines due to the enlargement of most panels (though I never really realized this), but in no case you should get unsharp/distorted/stretched/skewed/compressed etc. panels! The native 1600x1200 panels I know of are Captain Sim's 707 and 727 and MDMax MD-80 (unsure about Lago MD-80).Andreas Andreas, LOWW - Nihil sumus et fuimus mortales. January 2, 200620 yr Who wants that darn menu bar and window caption anyway ;-) ?Full screen rules (and doesn't give me crashes as windowed mode sometimes does for me; BTW there's no FPS difference between windowed/full screen modes if the window is maxed out)!Andreas Andreas, LOWW - Nihil sumus et fuimus mortales. January 3, 200620 yr Author The recent Flight1 productions have high resolution panels:C172, C441, PC12 all have 2048x1536 resolution bitmapsand should look great on your screen! Also the RealAir SF260 or Spitfire which are designed to be flown in VC mode only, should work well! Bert
January 3, 200620 yr If oddly stretched, check your "Display" setup, look for the highres shape most like your screen. It could be set to your old format.
January 4, 200620 yr Hi Greg,You might want to check your full screen settings (on the Settings | Display | Hardware page) and make sure your full screen mode is set to 1600x1200, otherwise your LCD monitor might be stretching a lower res mode to fill your LCD's screen, which could cause pixelation effects like you seem to be describing.Tim Tim http://fsandm.wordpress.com
January 4, 200620 yr Hi AndreasUnfortunately 17" & 19" LCDs have a native resolution of 1280 x 1024 which gives an aspect ratio of 1.25/1 instead of 1.33/1 (4x3).This res. MUST be used in order to preserve quality of image. This gives unnaceptable distortion of circles and squares from a 4 x 3 image full screen so the only solution is using windowed mode which more or less corrects this.regards
January 4, 200620 yr Author If the panel does not reach all the way to the top of the screen, you can correct for this in the panel.cfg file.Try adding this to the default Cessna 172 main panel and see the effectwindow_size= 1.000, 0.6604 // added for 1280x1024 monitorThe math is: (% panel bmp hight) x 960 / 1024.In this case (541/768) x 960 /1024 Bert
