  1. I have been waiting patiently for the release of REX4 Weather Architect. According to their web site, it was to be available last month (August 2014). Is there any new word on when it will be released? danr
  2. I have a GTS 250 card. I'm am using XP with the latest nVidia drivers. No problem with building shadows.Dan
  3. Thanks for the help and suggestion. I purchased and installed a GTS 250 several days ago. What a difference. My frame rates have increased 10%+, the screen appearance has improved and FSX is running more smoothly. As far as my computer goes, it is booting up more quickly and running a little faster. My next upgrade will probably be a faster CPU. In your specs I see that you have an E8400 OC to 4GHZ. Would that in itself make a measurable difference over what I have now (E6600 OC to 3.1Ghz)? Thanks again for your help.Dan
  4. Two and a half years ago I built a computer which, at the time, had fairly high-end specs except for the video card which is an XFX GeForce 7900GS with 256 MB of DDR3 memory. I was planning to upgrade when Windows Vista came out but I never did. I still have XP. Would there be much of an improvementin in FSX if I upgraded to a 9800GT card with 512 MB of DDR3 memory. I still have a Core 2 Duo E6600 processor OC to 3.1 with an adequate power supply and an up-to-date bios which canl handle the 9800.Thanks,Dan

The corrected version of GCFV which includes the altitude file has been uploaded. It can be found in the "What's New" section of the File Library. The old version has been removed. Again, sorry for the goof.Dan

Hello Art,I feel better now that I know someone else missed the placement of the altitude change file. As soon as the AVSIM Library is back on line, I'll upload a corrected package.Dan

Thanks MeshMan! This is the first time that I have submitted an airport with an elevation change. I'll resubmit the package today with the altitude file. My apologies to all who have downloaded.Dan

Hello Art,I created the files in three steps, (1) Changed the Airport Altitude to 20 meters, (2) Excluded the existing Airport Background and (3) Added a new Airport Background at 20 meters. It works ok on my computer by either putting the files in the Addon Scenery>Scenery folder which is towards the middle of my FSX Scenery Library or in a seperate folder which is at the top on my library. So far, of the 260+ downloads, I have only heard from Patric. I hope you may have some ideas that will help him.Danp.s. I also downloaded my files from AVSIM and they work fine on my computer.

Hello Patric,I tried the GCFV files with FSG mesh and they work ok so I do not think it is the mesh. I can think of two possible problems. (1) make sure that the two bgl files (GCFV_ADE_DKR.BGL and GCFV_ADE_DKR_CVX.bgl) are in the Addon Scenery>Scenery folder or (2) if this does not work, possibly one or both of the bgl files are corrupt. I suggest that you download the files again.I hope you get it working.Dan

Hello Spence,I have been playing around with GCFV this afternoon using Airport Design Editor. I have changed all of the elevation to 20 meters which visually seems to be a good compromise with FSX default scenery. I will post my files in the AVSIM File Llibrary tonight or sometime tomorrow. 12. Two years ago I built a computer with the idea of upgrading the video card and possibly some other components when Windows Vista came out. After reading about Vista, I am still with Window XP and plan to stay with it for a while. However, I am now considering two upgrades (1) a new video card with 512 MB and (2) a new processor. May I have your suggestions please? Please refer to my existing specs below.EVGA nForce 680i SLI Mainboard, LGA775--Intel Core 2 Duo Desktop Processor E6600 OC to 3.0GHz--Cooler Master Hyper TX CPU Cooler--Western Digital SATA 230GB Hard Drive--Thermaltake 700W Power Supply--XFX 7900GS Video Card, 256 MB DDR3-- Sony DVD/CD RW Drive--Sony Floppy Drive--Cooler Master Centurion 5 Computer Case--Super Talent 2GB DDR2 800 Memory.
  13. Thanks for your reply MeshMan. I really don't have the time to tinker with it right now. Thanks again.Dan
  14. I am updating an FSX stock airport and will be adding a new runway which runs parallel to the existing runway. Unfortunately, a UTX road with traffic runs parallel to and between the two runways. I am using Airport Design Editor and have not been able to exclude the road and traffic. Is there another program that can do this? Thanks,Dan
  15. I've been searching for KPDX FSX airport scenery with no luck. Does anyone know of any existing or in development?Dan

Setting Mess Resolution to 1m has worked for me. Very few bounces now.Dan

Same effect at Odell Lake in Oregon, USA using the MS Beaver float plane.

Same problem. I have also noticed that leisure boats start to bounce when you taxi close to them in a float plane.
  19. I replaced my dead CRT monitor about a year ago with a ViewSonic VX924. It appears that the 922 has similar specs. I have been very pleased with my 924. Good resolution, good color and no gosting. It works great with FS9 and other applications. I agree with Manny. You should check them out at a computer store. I purchased my 924 at CompUSA.Dan
  20. Hello David,I am also trying to put together a similar system. Yours looks good to me except I note that your computer case comes with a 450W power supply plus you have a second 550W supply. I picked a similar case without a power supply in the same price range. It is the Thermaltake Matrix VX VD3000BNA at New Egg. I also agree with Dale about the power supply. I'm thinking about a 700W to 750W supply.Hello Dale,I also have an old parallel printer and I am looking at a board without a parallel port. To solve the problem I am going to get a USB Parallel Printer Adapter cable.Dan
  21. Here is my revised list of components. I have changed the case to a small, less expensive one that will better fit under my desk and has convenient front USB and audio ports. The other changes are based on your ideas and comments plus trying to hold down the cost.Thermaltake Matrix VX VD3000BNA Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer CaseIntel BOXD975XBX2KR Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 975X ATX Intel MotherboardThermaltake W0106RU Complies with ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS 12V version 700W Power SupplyIntel Core 2 Duo E6600 Concore 2.4Ghz 4M sharing L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor BFG Tech BFGR79256GSOCE GeForce 7900GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card SUPER TALENT 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop MemoryWestern Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200KSRTL 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive SONY Black 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 5X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 24X CD-RW 40X CD-ROM IDE DVD Burner SONY Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive Model MPF920 Black Microsoft Windows XP Home Upgrade with SP2Any further comments and ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Dan
  22. Thanks for all of your advice. I'm in the process of revising my list of components based on you suggestions. I'll let you know what I come up with. In the meantime, any more ideas will be more than welcome. Thanks again.Dan
  23. I have decided to try my hand at building a computer. My three year old Dell XPS is not able to run FSX very well. Here is a list of components I have come up with after may days of research:Siverstone TJ09-b Aluminum ATX Mid TowerIntel D975XBX2KR Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 975X ATX IntelMotherboardThermaltake W0116RU Complies with ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS 12V version 750W Power SupplyIntell Core 2 Duo E6600 Concore 2.4GHz 4M L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor BFG Tech BFGR79256GSOCE GeForce 7900GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video CardKingston HyperX 2GB (2x1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JBRTL 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA 100 Hard DriveSony Black DVD RW CD RWSony Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Disk Drive Model MPF920 BlackMicrosoft Windows XP HomeMy plan with these components is to be Vista ready. I will probably upgrade to Vista, a DX10 second generation card and an additional faster hard drive after MS has come out with the FSX DX10 upgrade.Any suggestions will be welcome. This is my first try at building a computer. Thanks,Dan
  24. Alex,My problem with the card was not exclusively with FSX. I had the bad screens with all my programs. Once I get FSX going again, I'll see if I have a simular problem as your screen shots.Dan
  25. Denny,Thanks for the reply. I have checked out the fans. They are all working and dust free. Is there a way to check out the PSU? I ran a diagnostic and the only reference to the PSU was "Power Supply State: Safe".Dan
