  1. Hmm, I just wonder how they would look in Michigan, USA... :)Regards, Steve
  2. Sorry, just thought I'd ask one more time, just to ensure I'm not missing something.Regards, Steve
  3. Hi everyone, thanks for reading. Does anyone know if there is a software tool out there that does the following:Reads the name of a file executable and then loads pre-assigned graphic card settings. For example, if I launch FS2004, then it knows to load up my settings of 2x antialiasing and 4x ansiotrophic filtering. If I launch "IL-2 Sturmovik" then it knows to load up my settings of 4x antialiasing and 8x ansiotrophic filtering. Thanks for any insight you might have on this...Regards, SteveGraphic Specs:O/C GeForce4 Ti4600 w/45.23a Omega drivers, DirectX 9.0b
  4. Thanks everyone for the great suggestions! I've got some downloading to do, than I'll give 'em a try. Thanks again!
  5. Can someone please recommend a high quality Cessna 172 for FS2004? I've looked in the Avsim files, and even would be willing to pay for something that is exceptional (the old Cessna 172 by DreamFleet?) Thanks for any insight on this! Regards, Steve
  6. Thanks for your feedback Bert. I'll give it a try!
  7. Hmmm, interesting. Thanks for the replies, I'll continue to experiment, but maybe for now I'll just stick with 1600x1200...Regards, Steve
  8. 1. Try "Full Screen" mode instead!!! (why are you running windowed mode???)2. Lock FPS at 25.3. Ensure your monitor's default refresh rates are maxed out (i.e., not stuck at 60Hz). I like to use "Refresh Force" located at: http://www.pagehosting.co.uk/rf/4. Turn off Antialiasing and ansiotrophic filtering in your graphic card (if it's enabled), and turn off V-Sync. NOTE! If you turn off vsync and notice the screen "tearing", turn it back on!Sorry if you've already done all this, just throwing out ideas.Regards, Steve
  9. Hi everyone, thanks for all the input, I appreciate you taking the time to answer. The reason why I'm asking is I'm trying to balance frame rate/resolution/ansiotrophic filtering/antialiasing. I can run 1600x1200 with 8x filtering, 4xAA locked at 27 fps, but it sometimes flutters. I can run 1600x1200 with 4x filtering, NO antialiasing and keep a forever steady 27 fps. So, I'm just experimenting, that's all - and just wanted to see what specs others were using.Thanks...
  10. Thanks...Roger that Vulcan.I have a nice 19" Trinitron that can do 100Hz at 1280x960 - I'll give that a try, and thanks for your feedback!!! 11. Hello everyone,Can someone suggest a good alternative to 1600x1200 resolution view? What are other people with a high performance computer flying in - and why? Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated!Regards, SteveSystem Specs:O/C homegrown MSI 865PE Neo 2, O/C P4 2.9Ghz/800Mhz FSB, 1GB PC3200 400Mhz Ram, 36GB 10,000 RPM WD Raptor/120GB Maxtor ATA133, O/C GeForce4 Ti4600 w/45.23a Omega drivers, DirectX 9.0b, WinXP Pro, SoundBlaster Audigy 2 with 6.1 speakers, CH Products Flight Sim Yoke USB
  12. OK, never mind, found my answer in the avsim library. By the way, how do you delete your original post???
  13. Hello,Maybe I'm overlooking something here for Flight Simulator 2004. But, does anyone know where I can find a key command reference card, or some other document that lists all the FS2004 commands? Thanks for any help you might be able to provide!Steve
  14. Scott, that's exactly what I'm looking for, thank you kindly for the link! I've just sent Jim an email about a few things regarding Michigan scenery/airports. I appreciate your comments! Michigan to Missouri - that's quite a move!Steve
  15. Hi, thanks for reading this. Do you know where I might be able to find some good Michigan scenery? Preferably something fully compatible with FS2004 and that covers the Southeast Michigan area including Detroit and Plymouth (Plymouth-Canton-Metteta 1D2)... I just reloaded FS2004 after removing it from my hard drive after it first came out, and wanted to give it another try. Problem is, the default Michigan scenery/terrain in my opinion is awful! Well, any help on helping me find some good Michigan scenery this would be greatly appreciated, please post back if you have some ideas...!Thank you,Steve
  16. Frank,When are you going to do some Michigan updates? How about Plymouth-Canton-Mettetal, 1D2 in Canton, MI. That would be a great start!Steve
  17. Thank you everyone! Yes, mapquest turned out to be a fantastic source! But, I really don't understand what I'm doing when it comes to trying to get the satellite images into Fly2. I now see (at a very basic level) how the Fly2 Editor can be used to alter the objects (so I can remove the jets, etc.), but don't know where to start on integrating the satellite imagery. For Example, how do I know which "zoom" selection to use with the satellite imagery? And, unfortunately, I don't know "JACK SQUAT" about Photoshop (but would be willing to learn). Well, this begs the question, is this something I can do, or is it out of my experience/skill range? For example, "Then, using Terrascene, render the area you want using the >default textures but don't slice it. Let Terrascene createjust the TGA files." HUH? DUH, I'M SO NEW - I don't know what that means! Well, I would love to one day fly VFR over my home airport, and perhaps have it look like the picture I've enclosed. Is that possible with Fly2? If so, I'll try all I can to make it happen!Regards,SteveSYSTEM SPECS:Dell 8200 P4 2.6 Ghz, 768 RDRAM 800, 80/120 GB ATA133 HDD, GeForce4 Ti4600 w/44.03 Omega Drivers, DirectX 9.0b, WinXP Home, SoundBlaster Audigy 2 with 6.1 speakers, CH Products Flight Sim Yoke USB, CH Products USB Rudder Pedalshttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/35929.jpg
  18. OK, well then let me first start off by saying THANK YOU for your hard work and efforts! It was fantastic to be able to take off from my own airport, and I do have a lot of hope and excitement for Fly2!There are several things I need to modify for Mettetal. For example, there are only small prop planes at the airport, since the runway is too short to accomodate others. I would like to remove the jets that are present. Also, taxi lines exist but they are out of place, etc. Now, I want you to know that it is easy for me to be critical, since I can't do any of the work, so please don't take this the wrong way. I am grateful for your work, I just would like to get down to tweaking the details, and making it as accurate as possible, and you have given me more than an exceptional start!I am totally brand spanking new to the editing thing. So, I don't know even where to start (for example, where do I find/load the 'Editor'?) Is there a good tutorial out there that someone can recommend? In an nutshell, here is what I am trying to accomplish:1) Modify/add some Mettetal airport scenery objects, and some taxiways. 2) Create realistic satellite scenery for this area. I've flown some areas that have the accurate satellite textures rendered on the ground, and it is AWESOME! I would like to be able to do this around my home airport as well! How do I get started? Thanks much again everyone!Steve
  19. Newbie here! Can someone please point me in the right direction as to how I get started altering scenery and objects? I have the newly posted Mettetal Airport, and would like to do alter the objects that are there. Thanks for your insight! 20. Thank you Tony, very much for your response. Here is further insight into my configuration:Renderer: Direct X 8 T&L (Is this the right DirectX choice, I'm not sure)Resolution: 1024x768Video Card: NVIDIA Geforce4 Ti4600 (Omega KX 1.4403)Bit Depth: 16 bits/pixelHigh Detail Resolution Checkbox: Box is checked (using this)Video Memory: More than 32MbFly2 Version: 2.5.240DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0bHere is my render.ini file[Graphics]mipLevelCount=3vertexIndexFormat=0premultiplyColorAndAlpha=0allowAutoMipMapping=0directTextureFlag=0[Textures]maxTextures32=32maxTextures64_565=32maxTextures128=72maxTextures128_565=250maxTextures256=30maxTextures256_565=230maxTextures512=8maxTextures512_565=5maxTextures1024=1mipMapFlag=896maxTextures64=16[NonAGP]maxTextures256_565=0[AGP]maxTextures256_565=0I have a question for you, please:You said on point #2:2. the -256 after the first number represents 16 bit textures. If you have "complex scenery" checked off , you're using a lot of 32 bit textures, and your current render ini allocates more slots to the 16 bits than to the 32 bit. - I'm sorry, but I don't understand. Where is the -256 after the first number? Ohh, I just looked again, do you mean the -256 BEFORE the next number (i.e. 256_next number as in maxTextures256_565=230)? After what specific line in my render.ini? Can you please clarify for me?I would like to maximize my FPS for VFR flying under clear conditions, using 32-bit complex scenery.Regards,SteveSYSTEM SPECS:Dell 8200 P4 2.6 Ghz, 768 RDRAM 800, 80/120 GB ATA133 HDD, GeForce4 Ti4600 w/44.03 Omega Drivers, DirectX 9.0b, WinXP Home, SoundBlaster Audigy 2 with 6.1 speakers, CH Products Flight Sim Yoke USB, CH Products USB Rudder Pedals
  21. Thank you very much for your help! I looked at my current render.ini file that I am using (not the original render.ini). It EXACTLY matches what you posted up as an attachment. I guess I'm on the right track then!Any further idea on why some lines are different in the render.ini files???Regards,SteveSYSTEM SPECS:Dell 8200 P4 2.6 Ghz, 768 RDRAM 800, 80/120 GB ATA133 HDD, GeForce4 Ti4600 w/44.03 Omega Drivers, DirectX 9.0b, WinXP Home, SoundBlaster Audigy 2 with 6.1 speakers, CH Products Flight Sim Yoke USB, CH Products USB Rudder Pedals
  22. Perfect - the TAB key! That's exactly what I was looking for! Thanks!Steve
  23. When "tweaking" the render.ini, I noticed that I am missing some lines that others suggest setting. For example, here is my original, default render.ini file (with just the mipLevelCount changed to 2):ORIGINAL RENDER.INI FILE IS BELOW[Graphics]mipLevelCount=2vertexIndexFormat=1premultiplyColorAndAlpha=0allowAutoMipMapping=0directTextureFlag=0[Textures]maxTextures32=0maxTextures64_565=16maxTextures128=72maxTextures128_565=999maxTextures256=20maxTextures256_565=32maxTextures512=8maxTextures512_565=0maxTextures1024=1mipMapFlag=896maxTextures64=16[NonAGP]maxTextures256_565=0[AGP]maxTextures256_565=0NOW, here is a suggested tweak file (thanks to BOB J):maxTextures32=32 maxTextures32_565=32 maxTextures64=32 maxTextures64_565=32 maxTextures128=72 maxTextures128_565=250 maxTextures256=30 maxTextures256_565=230 maxTextures512=8 maxTextures512_565=5 maxTextures1024=3mipMapFlag=896 See the problem? In Bob J's suggestion, look at this line: maxTextures32_565=32 In my original render.ini file, it doesn't exist! Why is this, and what is it for? Do I need these extra lines? Thanks for your help - I am absolutely totally confused on what to put where in the render.ini file, what to keep, what to delete, etc.I am finding that Fly2 stutters an awful lot, and am getting obviously poor frame rates. I'm a fairly technical user, so have done all the basics: no running programs, swap files properly set, clean temp dir, IRQs properly configured, etc.Regards,SteveSYSTEM SPECS:Dell 8200 P4 2.6 Ghz, 768 RDRAM 800, 80/120 GB ATA133 HDD, GeForce4 Ti4600 w/44.03 Omega Drivers, DirectX 9.0b, WinXP Home, SoundBlaster Audigy 2 with 6.1 speakers, CH Products Flight Sim Yoke USB, CH Products USB Rudder Pedals
  24. Can you get a numeric frame rate result to show up? I've read the FAQs, and followed the steps described below, but all I can get is the graph to appear. Can you not get a numeric read out??? If so, HOW??? Thanks.P.S. Unfortunately, I'm starting to kind of get discouraged with the Fly2 experience so far. As a newbie to Fly2, I feel there is so much information, but it is terribly disorganized and scattered everywhere. I feel that this forum seems to be the only place that can help me out. Well, I'll hang in there a little longer, but I have never spent so much time "trying to figure things out" on a flight simulator in all my flight simming days... FROM THE FAQs Open the fly.ini file in the system folder. Find the line allowDebugInfo=0, and change this to allowDebugInfo=1. Save the file and restart Fly! II.You can also disply fps as a graph by pressing + or + !
  25. Where do I download the latest Terramodels Texture Pack??? I've tried to find in in the AvSim files, but must be missing it somehow. I've searched through the forums, but did not find a link. Thanks for your help everyone, as usual. Sure is a lot to learn here. I don't even know the basics of how to "use" terrascenery. I assume I need to download the latest models, but then what do I do? Where do I put "terrascenery" enhanced stuff? Is there a 1-2-3 step guide for "dummies" out there? Sorry, just trying to figure this all out.Steve
