  1. Thanks, Hans! If I understand you correctly I've been going about it the wrong (opposite) way! I guess I need to go and change all my saved flights now (G)!Scott
  2. Well, all I know is that after a couple of hours of repeatedly tuning in ATIS both before and after changing the wind direction (all of which was done while sitting on the tarmac at LAX and ONT) ATC would consistantly refuse to change the active runway if I tuned into the ATIS first, after loading a saved flight, before going in and changing the wind direction or download weather data from the Internet. I haven't tested this inflight yet though...Scott
  3. Thanks, John! "CTD" is a new one on me! Very appropriate, though (G)!Actually, the problem I was having with the logbook (which thanks to you and the others I finally fixed!) only happened after I exited FS9 (because I have the make log entry option turned on). The thing in FS9 that causes the most CTDs happens when I which from full view to a window view and then try to change back. I've recently discovered that hitting the Windows key on the keyboard is a safer way to get out of and back into full view that trying to do it within FS9!Scott
  4. The PSS 777Pro comes with a working FMC? Funny, the product description on Flight 1's web site doesn't mention anything about the FMC though the photos of the product showed one. I just assumed it was there just for show but didn't actually work. Thanks filling me in on that!Scott
  5. Thanks, Mike. I appreicate your opinion on this issue. It pretty much confirms my judgement based on reading the product discriptions for both!--Scott
  6. A follow up to my previous comments:I do have to knock Wilco for poor attention to detail in regard to the aircraft.cfg file for the 737-400. they left the "atc_type=" line blank which causes the pilot to report the 737 as "experimental" rather than a 737! They also misspelled an airline's name, misspelling "airline" in the title description for the Northwest B737! I don't understand how either mistake could have gone unnoticed by the beta testers! In any case, there's no excuse for Wilco not to have caught and corrected these errors!
  7. Wow! A simmer since FS1.0? We're dating ourselves a bit are we (G)?!I go back almost as far. I started with FS 2.0 for the PC. At the time I had a monochrome monitor though and I couldn't tell the ground from the sky which obviously made flying (landing especially!) a tad bit difficult! Consequently it wasn't until I got a color monitor some months, maybe a year, later that I really started to get into to FS (G)!
  8. Thanks, Bill & Aad! No wonder I couldn't find "experimental" in the aircraft.cfg file when I did a search for it! I must say it was sloppy of Wilco to leave the atc_type= and atc_model= lines in the aircraft.cfg file blank for the 737-400 like that! They also mispelled an airline's name, too. I found that they had misspelled "airline" in the title line for the Northwest 737! In all fairness to Wilco, though, I think it was PMDG who also misspelled an airline's name. Strangely enough, I think it was also Northwest! How either this mistake or the "experimental" mistake got through the beta testing without being noticed by someone is beyond me!Scott
  9. Hey, thanks to your help I'm finally getting a handle on this thing! I made one very important discovery after spending several hours of trying to change the active runway! It can be done ONLY if I don't tune in an airport's ATIS first, before changing the wind direction manually or downloading real world weather off the Internet. Whenever I did FS ignored the change in wind direction and refused to change the active runway regardless of what I changed the wind direction to!Scott
  10. Hi, PJWhat's FS Autostart? Never heard of it (until now)! At any rate, I'll try to find it....Scott
  11. I couldn't agree with you more, John! In general, the FS flight planner does indeed leave a lot to be desired. It's not entirely useless, however. Occasionally it will come up with a better flight path than FSNavigator does (so long as you aren't trying to fly across either the Atlantic or Pacific!)...Scott
  12. So THAT's where Microsoft hid the darn thing! Geez, you'd think Microsoft didn't want anyone to find it! What's even stranger though, is that I did a search for the fs9.cfg file in my C: drive using Windows Explorer it failed to the file!Scott
  13. Ah, that must the the problem then! I use Netscape, instead of IE, as my default browser...Thanks for clearing up THAT mystery! While there have been a couple of times recently when being able to print out the FS flight plan would have come in handy, not being able to print the FS9 flight plan isn't all that big a deal. I don't like it's layout anymore than I like the layout of the FS logbook. The printed version of FSNavigator's flight plans is far superior!Scott
  14. What file is the "LOG_FILE=" line located in?Actually, I've got a real logbook, but haven't used it in a couple of years. I've always been irked that the format of the FS logbook doesn't resemble a real world logbook and by the fact that you can't print a copy of your FS logbook from within FS itself...Guess it's time to drag out the real logbook and dust it off again!Ok, what's a CTD?Scott
  15. I was apparently wrong about my FS9.cfg file having gone missing. I finally found it, but only after seeing in another posting where it was located. It really ticks me off the way Microsoft scattered files all over the place with FS2004 (the fs9.cfg file in one place and saved flights and flight plans, in another place). Everywhere, it seems, but in FS itself like they were in all previous versions of FS! Geez...Scott
  16. I'm trying to decide which of these versions of the Boeing 777 to go with. The 777 Professional product includes all three versions of the 777 (200, 300 & freighter) and 26 liveries (only one of which is an American carrier). The Wilco product only includes the 200 variant and 16 liveries (including two American carriers). It does come with a functional FMC and a paint kit, however.I'd be iterested in hearing what people think of both. Judging from some of the comments I've seen about Wilco's 737 PIC I think I can probably guess what the author's of those comments might think about Wilco's 777. Still, I'd like to hear your 2 cents worth, especially if you've flown one or the other (or both)...
  17. Thanks for all the help with the weather, Andy! I always check with the ATIS as soon as I get close enough to an airport to tune it in. The only part of the message I usually pay any attention to is the runway in use part. Guess I need to start listening to the ENTIRE message from now on!Scott
  18. I don't think thats it. The problem is having the pilot report the aircraft type as "experimental" in the case of the 737PIC 737-400 or not at all in the case of the 737PIC 737-500, not the atc name or flight number. I'll double check though, just to be sure...Thanks for the help!Scott
  19. You're right. Clicking on "GPS Direct" avoids the little side trip to Alaska! What I can't figure out, though, is why flight planner does it when selecting the high altitude airways...Scott
  20. Thanks, Andrew. It appears that my fs9.cfg has gone AWOL. It's not the FS2004 root directory or in the flight simulator files folder under My Documents (the only other place I thought it might be). Now what?! Can I reinstall FS2004 over itself without screwing up everything I have installed in FS2004?Scott
  21. Hi (again!), AndyAs to the printer problem, yes, it was on when I tried to print the flight plan alright. The printer window didn't popup like it should either. I don't have a problem printing a flight plan in FS2002. Not being able to in FS2004 has me stumped at this point...The logbook file appears to be in the right place (the flight simuator files folder under My Documents) where it is listed in upper case letters. I can open it with notepad so the file isn't corrupted. This problem is as big a mystery as the printer problem!Tom's site sounds interesting! I'll check it out. In the meantime, I guess I'll have to stick with FSNavigator while flying over great expanses of water (G)!Scott
  22. Thanks, Feng! I've had ActiveSky on my system for a while, but haven't tried using it yet. Guess I'd better break down and read the manual!Scott
