  1. Hi again Bert, thanks for your latest input. I've been delayed here today with a power socket failure of all things!?! - It never rains but it pours 🙂 I've fixed it now, that's the main thing. I'm looking at the MSFS, 'D' to 'J' transfer again now (trying to Copy that file your suggested, the one containing the 'Official' and the 'Community' folders) .- running up against 'Permission' problems now along with that Error code again. I've done some research on the Computer as I was loath to continue imposing on you Chaps. Not there yet but I'm certainly learning a lot ...... My MSFS though is still working so if push comes to shove I can use as is 🙂 Will let you know how I get on. In the meantime - Thanks as ever. Kind Regards, Blue
  2. Thanks Reader - most grateful. (And of course Bert did mention the 'Packages' folder in his earlier message - Thanks Bert) It's late here now so I think this will keep until the morning. Many, many thanks to you both. I will update you when I try moving the 'Packages' folder. Kind Regards, Blue
  3. Hi Bert, Thank goodness for that I thought I'd messed something up!!?? - You are a fine fellow - Thanks. Further: I'm grateful for your further response Reader, but am struggling to know which .....entire folder ..... to copy and Move to my 'J' Drive. InstalledPackagesPath "C:\Users\BLUESCASTER\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages" is it, the 'Packages' Folder (that then contains the \Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe ) or maybe just the \Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe folder?? Each Folder seems to contain a vital part of the thing I'm looking to 'Move'. I'm sorry to be such a pain but thank you both anyway. Kind Regards, Blue
  4. Hi Mike, I'm unable to advise you regarding your response, save to say my installation is indeed the Microsoft Game Store version. I only recently read of the 'Move' facility in a PC Pilot Magazine, so thought that, as it sounded so simple, even my limited knowledge might be able to implement such a change. As you know it wasn't to be but I'm learning thanks to generous folk such as 'Reader' and Bert Pieke. Reader/Bert, I have located the 'usercfg.opt' file but there is a complication (sorry, it's probably me - 😞 ) I seem to have two (2) installations!?! One on my 'C' Drive (where my Win 10 O.S. lives) 'C' Drive was always intended for the O.S. only. The other where I expect MSFS installation to be, my 'D' Drive. I thought I might be able to add a screen shot but couldn't, sorry. 😞 Here is a copy of the 'usercfg.opt' path line you indicated - both path lines are the same in each Drive folder, but the 'C Drive' path has the little blue arrows (Shortcut symbols ??) on the Folders, including the 'Local cache' folder that, when 'Clicked', brings up the folder containing the 'usercfg.opt' file. I hope this makes sense?? InstalledPackagesPath "C:\Users\ BLUESCASTER \AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages" I don't know why my MSFS is shown on BOTH Drives (C & D ) but don't really want to try Bert's idea of Copying files until I'm sure I've understood what's happening. As I said, at present, although I'd like to put the installation on the new 'J' Drive, I don't want to disable my setup. Thanks anyway for your help so far guys - I very much appreciate the time and trouble you have already spent. Kind Regards, Blue
  5. Update: I'm afraid I tried your suggestion 'Reader' but without success. It may well be that nothing in fact, had been copied across to my new 'J' Drive in the first attempt. I say this as the folders appeared empty. Also, upon trying the move again today, the 'Apps & Features' facility informed me that my MSFS program was located (still) in my 'D' Drive (the original Drive I first downloaded it to). In any event, I went to the Apps & Features facility via 'Options' and went through the 'Move' selections again but (as with the first attempt) Windows appeared to be 'Moving' but then stopped at the end only this time with a notice on screen and an Error Code. (0x80073 d0b should that be of use to anyone.) I did search the Error Code on the Web but didn't feel competent to be clicking on things I don't understand, so took no action on remedies suggested there. I re-tested my MSFS and it still works perfectly. I then went to my 'J' Drive and deleted the empty folders that had appeared there as a result of my attempted 'Move' operation. All that is, except a folder named, 'WindowsApps'. That folder I'm unable to delete as it tells me I don't have the correct permissions. I've tried changing permissions, but came up against stuff I didn't understand sufficiently to proceed so left well alone. After deleting the other folders, I again re-tested my MSFS and thankfully, it still works as expected. Hello Bert Pieke 🙂 Many thanks for your input (and your help from way back! ) - I think I understand your suggestion and assume the bulk of my MSFS will be on the new 'J' drive as a result of doing as you suggest? I'm not familiar with the 'UserCfg.opt' file but could find it and I am familiar with editing config files in FS2004 (which I still use 🙂 ) I certainly think it is worth trying, thank you. Many thanks again to you both for advice given here - What a super Forum this is 🙂 Kind Regards, Blue
  6. Thank you Reader. I will take your advice and try that tomorrow - when I've gotten up the courage 🙂 Many thanks again for your help. Kind Regards, Blue
  7. Hello Reader, Sincere thanks for taking the trouble to respond to my plea; your diagnosis appears spot-on as I didn't realise moving other stuff was necessary 😞 I'm most grateful for your help. May I impose upon your generosity by asking a follow-up question please? Can I therefore now, go back to the 'Apps & Features' application and 'Move' the rest of it - or have I cocked it up completely? Clearly I didn't read enough when I used the feature (for the first time ever) it's just I am rather worried when trying out such things, as I've read of so many horror stories with our Flight Sim. and Computers are a rather dark Art to me 😞 As said, I'm something of a Computer 'Numpty' - my Grandaughter is usually my Technical advisor when it comes to my 'phone queries but clearly she doesn't do Flight Sims 🙂 Thanks again for your help - you are most kind. Regards, Blue
  8. Hi All, Having had excellent help here previously I'm imposing on the generosity of Forum Members for a MSFS query. I should perhaps start off by saying I have had MSFS on my setup for a couple of years now. I have added a few Scenery addons, along with a few extra Aircraft. I have to date, not experienced (Thankfully) the many problems some Forum users have written of in these Forums. Mostly my setup has behaved admirably 🙂 It was until today originally loaded onto my SSD 'D' Drive (My Win 10 O.S. is on it's own SSD 'C' Drive) This Computer is dedicated to my Flight Sim setup and has a couple of older HDDs for file storage etc. plus an external HDD for file back-up purposes. The Computer is a 'Wired 2 Fire' prepared Flight Sim Computer. (I can add all the technical information from the invoice if necessary - it means little or nothing to me I'm afraid) I recently installed an M.2 SSD on my System because my Current 'D' SSD, that had my MSFS installed on it, was running out of space. Today I used the 'App & Features' facility on my Windows 10 O.S. 'Settings' in order to 'Move' the MSFS Flight Sim program onto my new M.2 'J' Drive. (I just 'Clicked' the 'Move' Option and the Computer system seemed to do the 'Move' operation with very little information being shown.) After a while I restarted my Computer, 'Clicked' on the Original shortcut for MSFS on my Desktop and the Simulator started as usual. (Maybe loading a little faster than previously - that could be expected, but wasn't the reason I 'Moved' the program.) I've made a short test flight and all seems fine but, having looked at my System Drives information, I wonder if any of you knowledgeable, Forum Members can answer a couple of queries please? (I am something of a Computer 'Numpty' so please bear that in mind when replying if possible) When I look at my Desktop Folders in the 'This PC' list, my original 'D' Drive, that contained MSFS program, still shows all the Sim. folders that were there before, including the 'WpSystem' and 'XboxGames' Folders. AND my new M.2 'J' Drive, also shows the same files. I have the Microsoft Game Sim. (not the Steam version). Looking at the 'Properties' by right clicking on the Drives, I see that the original 'D' Drive is still almost full but the new M.2 'J' Drive doesn't appear to have the Sim File content on it - albeit the Folder showing content of the Drive suggests all the MSFS Files/Folders are indeed on that 'J' Disc. My quandary is; What is happening? Has my MSFS Program been 'Moved' or not? Can I 'Delete' the Files/Folders from my 'D' Drive. (i.e. has that space been freed up?) An added anomaly would appear to be the 'Community' Folder. That Folder at least, appears to be still on the 'D' Drive. I apologise if my questions make no sense, but frankly I just don't understand if I've 'Moved' my Sim Program or not - or what I might do now? Thanks in advance if anyone can offer any assistance. Kind Regards, Blue
  9. Hi Terry, Many thanks for sharing this with the Computer 'Numpties' like myself. A very interesting Post that, quite clearly, you put a lot of thought and effort into (even if much of it was above me;-) ). I am always grateful for the generosity of fellow 'Simmers' sharing their (in this case, quite extensive) knowledge. Thanks again. Kind Regards, Blue
  10. Hi All, I still read through these posts periodically and in doing so saw this Thread: Nothing to do specifically to the item BUT I just wanted to say 'Thank You' to Ray & Wobbie for the continued help & advice they give to people like our fellow Simmer 'Simon' Both these stalwarts of our Forum have also helped me - a complete 'Computer Numpty', in the past. Thank you guys - you're a credit to our Hobby. Best Wishes and Kind Regards, Blue. PS. Still using FS9 too - along with the 'New' one 😉
  11. Thanks for the info guys - and Thank you to other Posters in this thread for sharing their experiences, it is most appreciated. Regards Blue Edit: I thought I'd quoted '747' & '737' for their responses - clearly not, but Thanks guys.
  12. Hi, I'm sorry I was reading but..... 'HAGS' ??? Could you tell me what that is please? (I've had a couple of unexplained 'Stoppages' whilst flying & was trawling the Post for info really) Sorry to be a pain. Regards, Blue
  13. Hi All, I know this is really OLD but, I've been using FS9 as my regular Flight Sim (although I do have all the others including MS2020) - and until very recently I've not flirted with any add-on Nav Map so, although I'd seen the odd one advertised/recommended over the years, I've had no experience of them. Recently, re- reading some old 'Tips & Tricks' (remember those?) that I'd collected years back, I saw information regarding FS Navigator. I came across this thread and indeed downloaded the ' fsnav470.zip' mentioned here. Posting now to save anyone else the disapointment. Whereas this handy little Program is still avaiable to Download it is NOT viable. I repeat NOT VIABLE now in light of the fact it cannot be registered nor purchased and does indeed end after a short trail period. For information of all. Regards, Blue
  14. Hello again Chris_eve, Many thanks for your reply. Yesterday I got a 'Nothing here!' or similar flag from my Firefox browser and therefore assumed the site was defunct. Thanks to you, I tried again this morning and went straight to Christoph's site! I've left him a message of thanks. Your reply is much appreciated. Kind Regards, Blue
  15. Hi Chris_eve, Well spotted, I guess I just didn't scroll down far enough but unfortunately the Web site no longer functions and likewise I summize the email address that it's linked to. My thanks just the same to you and to Christoph. Kind Regards, Blue
  16. Well, that went well - I'm afraid I failed to find any contact details in the 'Autower240' program, license or Readme files. Therefore, Christopher LANGGUTH, my thanks for this super little program that I'd used for sometime and immediately missed it when it failed to show up;-0 Great program and excellent description in the Readme that even I could understand (some) of. Again, sincere Thanks! Regards, Blue
  17. Hi Trioer, How very kind of you to respond to my plea - Thank you. Moreover, this is exactly the little program I had lost! Thank you so much for your effort. I shall now make a special effort to keep it safe AND send a note of appreciation to the auther whose name I had forgotten. What a great Forum we have here. Kind Regards, Blue
  18. Hi All, I've been doing some clearing out from my many FS9 versions and seem to have 'lost' the little utility?? or program I had embedded in one of my FS9 Versions, This little 'program' followed your current aircraft around. Basically it flashed up the nearest tower area you were in and 'Tower view' was always the one nearest to your current position enroute. I'm not even sure now where I got it from but, try as I might, I just cannot locate it among my many downloaded FS9 items. Nor unfortunately can I remember what it was called. I have tried searching our Library but so far without success and hence my plea here. Any help or observations gratefully received. Regards, Blue
  19. Thank You John & C2615 for taking the trouble to respond. I use FSReal WX pro with FS9 (my Flight Sim of choice for many years.) I have recently, following help from another helpful Member on the MSFS Forum, gotten the 'New' 2020 Sim. Very nice it is too - but I'm not for giving up my FS9 anytime soon for a host of reasons. I have been sold on MSFS of late, as I said, however, over 30+ years of Simming I've also had vitually all the other offerings. So far FS9 has stood the test of time - I usually 'revert' to it after trying the latest 'New' incarnation for a few months - as it just does what it says on the box & I can simulate all the flying I want to do with it:-) The new one is very nice and that was the inspiration for my original question re the Weather Data. If I were smart enough I might delve into whatever it is that generates weather for FS9 using the Data now provided by MSFS....... I mourne the passing of the 'Real Weather' setting that I used in FS9 for so many years 😉 Thanks again folks. Kind Regards, Blue
  20. Hi All, Just a thought having just now read yet another Post on FS9 Real Weather. I'm a Computer Numpty and so this may well be a nonesense BUT - MSFS have a very nice Real World Weather set-up, it downloads as I understand it (much as FS9 Real Weather once did if memory serves) - could 'our' FS9 not be tweaked to 'Download' the MSFS Real Weather Data for use in FS9 ? I do appreciate that the 2 Flight Sims are generations apart technically but, 'Weather Data' is much the same isn't it? As I say, just a thought that I'm hoping one of you Computer geniuses may be able straighten me out on. 🙂 Thanks for your forebearance and as always, observations appreciated. Regards, Blue
  21. Hello 'Wingnut', I'm sure many of those trying to assist your query have far more experience than myself; however, for what it is worth, I bought recently from MS Store having moved on from my old reliable FS9 (FS2004) after many years. (tried lots in between but always went back to FS9). I too read lots of Forum posts (here and elsewhere - many were very scary regarding MSFS errors and problems.) Certainly one Poster was much more realistic and encouraging and luckily I took his advice. Perhaps I've just been lucky but frankly I've had none of the problems experienced by many and I am a Computer Numpty. I found the purchase fron MS Store relatively straightforward (for a Numpty) and updates have also gone as I would expect with my limited Computer knowledge. Yes, there's a lot to learn but frankly it is not rocket science and if I can work my way through it, I think most could also. The Software is really super in so many ways and Yes, I know there are many detractors BUT - this is my experience. It really has been an excellent experience and well worth the effort - I love it! (BTW I've been Flight Simming since the Sub-logic days - circa 1984 and flying real world since I was 18, many decades ago 😉 and long since retired! ) Good Luck! Regards, Blue
  22. Hello again, I cracked the problem with the Joystick Set-up. I was able to glean sufficient evidence to suggest it was likely to be something simple and did a little reading and mostly head scratching! It was indeed a simple fix - I really am a Computer Numpty as I didn't understand the new Sims way of doing things. Once I cottoned on it was ME that was not switched 'On' - as opposed to the Sim. I sorted it. 😉 Now enjoying the Sim and feeling very grateful for the help and advice available here . Thanks everyone! Kind Regards, Blue
  23. Hello again All, Just to Update this Post once more, this time with Good News! I cracked the problem with the Joystick Set-up. I have to report that I've just completed a circuit of my local field in the Cub! A super experience as many of you suggested. Thanks again for your help and enthusiasm. I shall now need to do lots of fine tuning and a lot more familiarization with the new Sim! It certainly does look super and I'm already planning on doing a lot of things I didn't think would be possible from my Desktop 😉 Thanks again All. Regards, Blue
  24. Hello Michael, thanks for taking the trouble to respond to my plight. As it is I have just this evening fixed the issue with my Joystick set-up. I'm very pleased I persisted as I've had that joystick a very long time and am rather fond of it. It has served me well over so many Flight Sims. I've long been an advocate of NOT replacing things just because there is something NEW out there. I like things to work and if they do I tend to stay with them 🙂 Thanks again. Blue
