  1. Dear Mats,I understand perfectly how round is the earth, as actually my jobin real life consist in making flight plans for some huge carrier. But the draw on the ND is kind of 'drawnfrom the top' or form above,so it shouldnt display apart from the path.I had the great opportunity to fly once into the cockpit of a real tranatlantic flight onboard a 747-400 from Europe to Miami, and the drawing was straight all the long of the trip, from 10 to 10 degrees. On another note, I was wondering this since on another payware add-onsfor fs2002, the ND displayed the path correctly even on longer legs than 600nm.Maybe I didnt understand what you're pointing at.regards,Arnaud
  2. Thank you very much for your answers, gentlemen.I first apologize for posting on a topic that had already been discussed, I havent found that with the search mode.I'm somehow satisfied being not the only one having this problem.I thought maybe the drawing on the ND was false becuase of a toopoor refresh rate, but I let is at default settings, so.I would be worthy indeed to try a 600nm long leg flight, andcheck if at the end you get to the correct coordinates. It would prove that it is the ND, and not the path that is incorrect. Will try to do that and report back later.Arnaud SolvayP4 2.4b ATI 9800XT 2561go DDR 333Asus P4P8X i865p
  3. Hello there,i was wondering wether anyone had noticed that the usingthe LNAV mod, the Auto Pilot doesnt follow correcty the pathif waypoints are more than 100nm distanced. On short flights, like 1.30 hour, it's ok since waypoints onrnav routes arent usually less than 40nm away from each other. But, if you try some long distance flight over ocean for instance,if you want to perform a transatlantic flight, then you go from10 degrees to 10 degrees, which is 600nm...It will then get away from the route.I was thinking about this because even with such long distances, the FMS should follow the patch better than it does. When the 747-400 will come out, this question will have to be solved, because the 747-400 often flies oceanic routes with 600nm long waypoints legs.Maybe it should be correct for the 737NG before?Regards.Arnaud Solvay, LFPG
  4. Thanks a lot for all these wise advise, Tomas.I expect to fly online soon, but I wait for SB3.As for the AI, I msut confess I'm a crazy AI man,and the AI I'm talking about is a kinf of home-made AI.If you just have on look over there http://ai-aardvark.comyou'll maybe understand. On antoher hand, AI is not what kills the more the frame rate.To me, it sthe autogen, and autogen set to max is a CPU promblem.Anyway, thanks very much.Arnaud.
  5. Vulcan,...well, after reading Tomas I was about to ring my lawyer!pfew, I was just thinking my Radeon was a kind of a mexican sausage......I myself used to run a Leadtek geForce 4 ti4800SE, and also hadvery bad frame rates, especially in the clouds...Tomas, I'm scared when I read you...Have you also a lot of AI traffic, and autogen set to max? This demand a LOT from the CPU I think.I have a 1280/1024/32 resolution, but with the 256mo on theRadeon it doesnt make a big improvement to lower at 1024/768/32...Now, the question is: I ran few bench, including the last 3DMark03,and got quite poor result, compared to similar PC.I checked and saw that the Radeon is sharing the same IRQ than theUSB Hub controller.Could that also slower my whole specs?
  6. Hi Dears,Once again, a topic on this graphic card, the Radeon 9800XT.I bought the card the day after I bought the PMDG 737NG.I'm simming since 1988, with FS3, and I do say loudly never hadI seen such an excellent, outstanding product! For this purpose, I decided to buy the Asus Radeon 9800 XT.The CPU is P4 2.4b, 1Go DDR333, mobo chipset Intel 865P.FS2004 sliders all maxed out, except Mipmaping to 4, and CloudsSight distance to the medium. My fear is: the FPS often drop under 10, on very busy fields -with maxAI 100% -, with some other with Radeon 9800pro get more.I know how complex is the settings in FS9.I ran some bench and got very disappointing results (12000 with 3dmark 2001) for these card.I launched the DxDiag Direct3D test, and the Dirext Cube turns so fastyou cant even see its a cube! I thing something is wrong out there.I used the ATI Catalyst 4.1, then set the Asus build In last drivers.Just saw the Catalyst 4.2 had been released, as well as the Last Omega. In the ATI control panels, I customized everything, I have no errormessage anywhere, the AGP is correctly set to 8x and so on.And yet, I feel very strongly it doesnt go as it should. In the clouds, in fs9, (and clouds ask only from the graphic CPU)I sometime go lower than 10! (over dense autogen areas). So, is there something I missed?I didnt tweak my fs9, since I cant find anymore the long post i readhere once about tweaking fs9.Please any help, awaiting the 737-800/900 and the Queen of the Sky!...Would a P4 3.06 FSB 533 allow me not to ge below 20 in the worst situation?Regards to all.
  7. Gosta,Thanks very much for the kind advise. What on another note I dont understand, is you're say
  8. Well, I actually have an enormous AI on CDG, with over 100 parkingsspots, but never had this problem. Also have heavy scenery installed there.I rather think of a previous default flight saved with anotherscenery or something.Back up your fs9.cdg, remove it from its location and restart FS.maybe this helps.
  9. Hi dears,i actually run a P4 2.4B, FSB 533, with 1Go DDR 333 Mhz,and expect to upgrade to a stronger CPU, ie. P4 3.06 Ghz.the mobo chipset is the Intel i865P.Though it supports FSB 800, is it true that I wont be ableto match an 800FSB CPU with some 333Mhz RAM?If so, I have to buy the disappearing P4 3.06ghz fsb 533,instead of some P4 3.0 fsb 800...Last, has hyperthreading anything to do with FSB?I mean, would an FSB 533 prevent me from using the HT technology?...I would alos like to know if you thinkit will make a big differencein fs2004, from my old P4 2.4b to a P4 3.06 ?....
  10. Marc !This Heavy One haunt my dreams at night!Purchased recently the 737NG, cant wait for this one...Bravo, Bravo!...Regards,
  11. Pieter,I also switched from nVidia to ATI recently, and also boughtthe Radeon 9800XT 256.What I did first, depsite the huge time it takes, I reinstalledeverything, starting by win XP. everything.i have all sliders maxed to the right, and the sim is OK.FPS locked at 26, weather and clouds also to the max.except in area crowded with AI (even low polys Ai planes),the sim keep at 20fsp, even with lots of clouds around. The radeon do the job with the clouds. The CPU (I have only a P4 2.4B) is weak, as it computes the AI andthe autogen, but not the clouds.I would also never say enough to get more RAM.Yesterday, I had a look, with the PMDG, fs9 took more than 900Mo RAMon a busy field, ...... fsp were 5!... But this was not usual...So imagine if you have only 512!...Arnaud
  12. Hi there,I've just purchased AS2004 and need to say here it looks anoutstanding product.However... Noticed this morning something much less nice:Seems when a metar indicates VAR winds (variable winds) withgusts, then AS2004 OR FS2004 get mad and twice crashed my simor the airplane, because of overstressed.is it a known issue?Maybe try to load ZBAA (Bejing, China), where it occured. the wind xas like. The wind in the Sim showed extremely abruptly fast variationsfrom 360 to 180 degrees with gusts exceeding 99 knots!...Damian, I know in real world operation VAR winds are often a problem, but was it thought in AS2004?Anyway,congrats for the work you did.regards,An=rnaud
  13. Dear Fred,That's a great new, wonderful!I bought the PMDG two days ago, and since then almost forgotreal life! It's such an amzing product, the best I ever saw.I often travel in the cockpit, in real, and I really recognizeeverything I see in the real one...A warm bravo. As for the TCAS, I must confess I painfully miss it in my sim, since my skies are crowded with AI planes (very nice ones)and useless to say that with the poor ATC service I really needa TCAS!... Especially on approaches! My TOGA button maybe be used a lot, but better than no traffic at allanyway. The question was: any idea about 'when' the TCAS will be available? All my best regards to all the Team, you're brilliant!Arnaud.
  14. Thanks for the wise tips guys.I downloaded the DriverCleaner.I had already set the AA and AS manually, no effect.I also experience an FSP drops, which make me think ofa kind of ghost-driver somewhere...
  15. Hi all,I just purchased a brand new and expensive Asus Radeon 9800XT 256DDRgraphic card.I'm very disapointed with its Anti Aliasing performance. It is set to 6X, and yet the planes do not appear very nicely.I would like to know the opinion of GeForce FX 5950 Ultra users.I'm thinking of bringing the card back and return to nVidiato whom I've always been faithfull. On another note, I installed the latest Catalyst 4.1 drivers. Is there any chance that re-installing fs9 and fs2002 would givebetter result? I dont think so, but I was thinking maybeupon install MSFS looks for the drivers installed. If so, it kept my nVidia drivers, depsite the fact in the Displaysetting I can see the Radeon 9800XT.Regards.
  16. Aha,so dear Sirs, you think that upgrade from my nVidia ti4800 SEto an ATI radeon 9800 XT would make the difference?Cool, I wanted to make sure before I spend 500 bucks...On another note, my P4 2.4B is maybe too weak.Regards
  17. Maybe you could dear read the smart advises of Jim, wherehe advises to set in the fs9.cfg the TurbulenceScale to 0.200000instead of 1.00000.The abrupt changes in fs2004 weather engine come from this.hope this helps.
  18. Okay, Michael.I'm not perprarting false ideas, you know.It is some personnal obsession, make a polar flight: I confirmMSFS do not allow you to do so: flying above the Pole, North and Southis just impossible: SO, Earth is not spheric in MSFS. Easy.I posted a long and detailed thread on another forum to explain this, with screeshots.Try yourself, this will be sufficient to convince you.The GPS has nothing to do with this: the GPS is a simulated GPS.The INS also computes distances with coordinates, OK, we all use them.(GPS has nothing to do with INS actually).Same for GPS: it only computes distances from one coordinate to another one, nothing to do with the not-spheric MSFS world.BUT, despite the distance are correctly done, the world below athigh latitudes is false.that's why at 89
  19. "Actually, I just wanted to point out that real world and the flight sim world are not the same sometimes."I agree, but it should be the same. Definitely.otherwise I'd rather buy a playstation or an X-box.- Arnaud.
  20. "ATC asked if the captain if he could fly the approach at 180knts"Sorry, I really have some doubt about it!I actually flew several time for my job INTO the cockpit of747-400's, and I sware this is very doubtful! You say it's up to pilot discretion, but no, please, especiallyon a busy filed as O'Hare is, I really cannot believe this, onlythe ATC decides, you see. Some other planes front and back.-747-400 with maximum payload will more realistically land at lessthan 140 knots, maybe 150 knots, but never 180 knots dear! How about the flaps, did you look through the window, flaps 15?!...And how did it brake at touchdown, with a parachute?Final approach at more than 150 is a joke.
  21. Yope,Flight Simulator is a huge big business, it surely brings a lotof money to MS. This is one thing.I am, I am an enthousiast, but I may get bored, because MSjust laughs at us now.The scnadal is: the FS engine is old, the graphic engine is archaic,it had never (except fs2k2) been updated correctly. We could definitely run this program with smaller PC.I'm tired o having to buy some Ultra powerful PC to run FSwith some modest 25fps, while all others games and sims, for someof them more complex, run soooo better.Last, the MSFS world is flat, this also, had never been updated:IMPOSSIBLE to make polar flights, you will end at North 89
  22. Dear,I think on the contrary it's very possible. What happen exactly? Most of us use a joystick. You should perhaps decrease the Joystick sensitivity, Ipersonnaly set it the lower possible. On another note, you should check your weight when you try to land.Above a certain limit, if you're too heavy (i.e. too much fuel in the tank) you may crash. Also, the speed you refer to are much too high. With 40tons fuel left(it's a lot), you can descend on final at 140knots, depending of course of the tempreature and the wind (if you have a tail wind)Last, use the trim rather than the main elevatorOn real ones, pilots use the trim on the yoke (small buttons)and adjust before touch down with the yoke.I land both 777 and 747 without any problems.Hope that helps.Arnaud
