  1. Thanks a lot Jim, that is the information I was looking for. I assume from your reply that it is not possible then to insert a runway extension waypoint on the path of a runway in case there is no ILS?Again thank you.
  2. Well, I believe that, once the fictious ILS added in FS nav database with AFCAD indeed, it's even easier as to the 747 FMC to enter that ILS manually on the NAV page once near the airport. Just input the frequency and the bearing, like for instance 109.90/035, and it will work just fine.AFCAD is very easy to use. Once the airport is loaded in AFCAD, select the runway where you want to add the ILS by cliking in it, then in one of the menu you'll find 'add an ILS', where you just need to choose the frequency, enable the back course availabilty, if it has a DME and so on.Hope this help.
  3. Hi,Although I've been looking for this both in the 747 courses by RSR and into the manual, I cant figure out how to set a waypoint into the FMC from a given runway. For instance, setting a point like few nautical miles ahead the runway, on the axis of that runway, when there isnt any navaids nor known waypoint which could help. Something like RWYXX/00 ?I know in approach mode when selecting a visual approach the FMC will put a fix like that at the desired distance, but what about for take-off mode?I read in the manual it's possible, yet it doesnt give the syntax for that. Thanks in advance.
  4. Oh sorry Alex, my bad, didnt read your post carefully enough, sorry. As of the 738 which I own as well, I never noticed that message.
  5. I would like to echo this, because I've also witnessed it couple of time, without any reason I think, and I never got this message before the 744F update. It also seemed to me that generally, the plane did not keep nor catch planned flight levels as well as it used to.I first thought it was due to FS screwed weather with 'real world weather' import, but it occurs also in FS standard athmosphere.Anyone else having this message?
  6. Hi,Sorry to bump that thread, but thought I'd post here a question for the beta testers who are still working on the upcoming sound patch:I noticed that prior to the 744F install, the inside cockpit up/down gear sounds was nicely set, as to the volume, I mean. Now it is very, very loud, and in a word, annoying (in reality you hardly hear the sound gear, at least not that much)Was this on the '-to-do list' for the developpers? Also, and last, has finally an external APU sound been added?Would be awesome for those who like me deactivate the cockpit sounds for external view. That would make the 744s an even greater masterpiece than it is already :-)
  7. Hi all,Just one small question: I'm still having doubts on the PROGRESS PAGE 2 of the FMC: immediately after landing, the fuel used value reset itself at the same time as the ZFW entry reset. Is it an issue, or is it just normal? Thought this value as well as the ZFW entry did reset only when deleting the ORIGIN on the route page. Also, I dont get the END OF ROUTE message anymore.Any ideas?[EDIT] sorry I forgot to mention I use both 744 and 744F (1.01) up to date and I havent found anything on the subject on both manuals...Thanks,
  8. :-) Thanks a lot Ryan, I do appreciate very much.Again I apologize, I assume from your reply that all this had been discussed before, but despite a search on the forum I couldnt find any thread related to it.I guess this is what happens when one stays away from the forum for a too long time.Regards,
  9. Well I guess I did not expose the problem clearly enough:Engine 2 and 3 has no sound at all in external views. Am I the only one?Take the 744 of 744F the most up to date. Launch FS, the plane is parked all engines off. External view (spot view). No sounds at all, which is normal since the engines are off.Now start engine 3, or engine 2, or both. You will see the fan in motion, the engine running, visually, but not a heck of a sound.Going back to the cockpit view, and you'll hear the engines running and see on the EICAS engines 2 and 3 are running. So the question is: why do engine 2 and 3 on both 744 and 744F dont play sounds in external view?
  10. Hi all,Had it been reported already that there seem to be some issues with the updated sounds of the 744s, talking about the updated soundset which comes with the 744F.The crackling sounds disappeared, that's the good point. The overall sounds is a real improvement over what it was when the first 744 was released.However...Sounds in external view dont play all the time the way I think they should. The start up sounds plays only if you star engine 4 or 1 first. If for some reason you want to start engine 3 or 2 only, no sounds in external view, although the sounds in the cockpit view plays normally. No sound at all either when the engine is running.About this external startup sound, by the way, it's not really a start up sound: you just hear the engine running when it's actually running.Same goes for the shut down sounds: they play in the cockpit view, but not in external view.Has anyone already noticed this?Sorry if this had been discussed already, I havent find any thread on that subject.
  11. Hi all,I purchased yesterday the 744F and I am very happy, notably because it also fixed many small issues I had with the pax 744.I have a question though: looking into the textures folder of the 744F, those textures I got from the PMDG download area, I see there are lots of unused 744 textures.Do all those "PMDG_744_..." texture need to remain in there, instead of only the "PMDG_744F_..." ones? I doubt it, but prefer to ask.Not only it's a waste of space on the HDD, but I was wondering if it didnt cause a loss of frame, even if those unused textures arent mapped on the 744F models.Regards,
  12. Yes it's TNCM indeed. What you see on that video is actually kind of the local game to try to resist the blast the longer one can. Silly game, that is.I once saw a video, same location, with a guy holding the fence, and blasted, the body was horizontal...It's a rather old video though.
  13. Thanks a lot Ryan,I hope Michael is now able to see the light and understand.
  14. Michael,I have read all his posts, but I see you havent read mine before you feel the need to post your smart comments.I simply explained that there are not only the winglets which are different, so no point adding just winglets on the current 744, that wouldnt be of usual PMDG quality.Rather than whining on any 'rambling', you could have just posted, for instance, something like: 'Yes, I'd like to see some 800s winglet on the 744 model too, even if that would be utterly unrealstic.'
  15. You might be wrong here. Not only the winglets are different, the engine nacelles are different and lots of other stuff.I think the fuselage may also not be the same, wing shape, rudder height and so on.Moreover, I assume a serious team like PMDG wont even think about the -800s since there are up to now no compelte information about what the -800 will look like in the final stage of production.A new plane is often modified all along the production chain, and the final result is often quite different from what it was supposed to beat the begining.Check this out if yopu want:http://747.newairplane.com/747-8.htmAnd you seem to ignore the fact that the avionics will probably be way different from the old -400s -more like the 787 basically-
  16. Drew,The 747-800 will be released next week, they've been very fast in doing a whole new model from the 744. And yes, it will be free.
  17. Hehe, thanks a lot for this one Pete :)
  18. Looking good Pete...Do you remember the little discussion about the visual difference between 744F and 744F ER ? By asking that I was menaing to ask if you finally planned to paint the frenchy freighters ? ;-) Anyway, thank you for those,Regards,
  19. Tom,This is a known small issue, that had been long discussed right after service update 1 release, and logged for the dev team -if I remember well.Check out this thread:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchThis might eventually be fixed in another service update.Strangely enough, this happens only on short flights.
  20. Thank you Michael for confirming what I thought. I believe the main differences lie only in the performances and mtow, and perhaps minor specific diiferences on the avionics. But not on the visual model.
  21. Are there any visual difference with the ERF ? Somehow I doubt it. Now that would been the bad new of the day for me :-( I do hope you're wrong Alex...
  22. Pete,I love those shots you greeted us with, I really do. However I fear I havent seen the Air France livery - they operate five 744F (ERF to be precise). And, off-topic, I think you'd ought to yourself to use for your AI the Aardvark models, much better looking models and paints ;-) Thank you for all those nice repaints.Regards,
  23. You are correct Jeff, you can definitely compress those .bmp files to dxt3 and doing so, gain in fps. You must be aware that it might cause a display quality loss tough, especially on smal details. And, using DXTBmp rather than Imagetool is definitely a very good choice.Best,
  24. Yes, I'd second this request, as I've been experiecing pretty same situation -nearly stalled- because of another airplane crossing the runway just when I was about to touch down. The G/A procedure would be nice further PMDG courses, hehe...:-)
  25. Yo can either input on the ROUTE page NAT known waypoint like 5120N,5230N etc.., or, in the LEGS pages free coordinates writen like N5120.1W02000.1I did a flight recently and used the custom waypoint, much faster than typing all the coordinates in the LEGS page.To answer your question, the display read inded 5120N and so on.Hope this helps.
