  1. That sounds like a good idea Geofa ! I haven't even had time to do any detailed testing of the autopilot, just a quick trip around the pattern tonight. I did notice the flight dynamics seem much improved with the latest SP, although I haven't ran any numbers to see how well everything matches up with the real world performance charts.Darrell
  2. Ok I've downloaded SP 2, the click spots work now on the GPS in the VC,thanks Carenado! But, there's still a problem with the RMI (at least on my system). The needle for ADF 1 and 2 work fine, the buttons work to switch between VOR and ADF, but when switching to VOR on either needle, the needle points to around the 2 o'clock position and stays there. Adjusting the OBS on VOR 2 results in the needle swinging back and forth between 2 and 4 o'clock, plus the "NAV" flag pops out when selecting VOR and I have a station tuned. Seems like that should be the other way around, flag showing when NO station is tuned on the VOR. Maybe "3rd time will be the charm" with SP 3.Otherwise I'm lovin' the Bo !Darrell
  3. +1 I too would like to be able to use the RMI with VOR 2 :( Darrell
  4. I notice two more errors also that I'm not sure anyone has posted about. Both needles in the RMI indicator are keyed towards ADF 1 and 2. Should one of these be assigned to VOR 2? Also, I noticed I'm not able to get the ADF digits to decrease using the mouse wheel, only increase (didn't think to try left click or right click as I'm in the habit of using the wheel). Other than that and the small flight model probs, I'm pleased with her :( Darrell
  5. Better yet, include one model with and one model without 3d knobs. Some of us do not gave the Reality gps and like the looks of the 3d knobs. Darrell
  6. No yard work here :( Supposed to rain all weekend, which means there'll be more time for flying this baby if it does come out Darrell
  7. Hello CWD.. I have made some more progress on the 170. I'm having trouble getting the gauges to look "correct" on the panel and still trying to work thru that one :) As for those of you I have apparently upset, I apologize. Please notice in my original post I said "either/or" when referring to the AVSIM forums or email as the source of the apparent "bad apples." I never meant to call out any one source over the other. I have never had any problems with anyone here, but as reality has it, I have seen a few "negative" threads in the past. Not necessarily in the thread in question though. All in all I along with a few other people have had a bad day today and seeing everything that had transpired this evening sort of put the "icing on the cake." so to speak.Darrell Edited to add:I also came into this late as I don't have time to monitor the forums during the day, and did not know that all the bashing and trashing started after the package was pulled.
  8. >Glad you're off your soapbox.>>Personally I think your comments pretty selfish in nature. >Bill's comment--given the praise I and others who call this>our home forum give his work--wasn't warranted given the>content of the thread in question. Both comments you quote>came AFTER Bill made his remark in his home forum. The thread>in question had NOTHING in it that warranted a mod stepping>in, although your thread does appear meant to yell fire in a>crowded theater and I smell a lock coming real fast.>>Most certain, if Bill reposts his projects, he will have>generated quite a bit of sales because of his fit of>"frustration". What surprises me is, if you truly care about>his work, why didn't you take the time to comment vs. my>screenshots of his Challenger in the screenshots forum here? >Funny thing is, the mods usually do and bump up the free press>I've been giving Bill's work--very few others comment on my>screenshots. I guess it's only a cesspool when you forget>about those who help the product along, eh?>>Off my soapbox...>>-JohnI didn't take the time to comment on your screenshots here John, simply because I do not frequent the screenshot forum. Sorry I disappointed you and didn't post praise upon praise for them.I guess I do care for and appreciate his work, I've purchased every one of his releases to date except for the Goose, Apache, and Golden Hawaii, and I chose simply not to purchase them because those planes were of no interest to me, either in flightsim version, or real life.I don't feel my comments were selfish in nature at all. It just upsets me that a few "bad apples" have to ruin other people's fun and enjoyment.Darrell
  9. As one of the unfortunate ones that was going to wait till payday Friday to purchase Bill's Tripacer package, I just wanted to say a "thank you" (Yes that's a sarcastic smart A** remark) to those of you who, either here on the AVSIM forums, or thru email attacks to Bill himself caused him to feel like he had to shutdown all sales and design operations. As someone who has suffered thru the "blood, sweat, and tears" and long hours of developing an aircraft to release to the flightsim community, it can get quite frustrating to get rather immature attacks from people who demand you fix this or that, improve this part of it immediately, etc. Before anyone gets offended and takes it personally at what I just said, please note there is a difference between constructive criticism/suggestions and blatant immaturity. I'm sure that Bill is the type of guy that would listen to constructive criticism and use it to improve his products if he feels the need to do so. Apparently from reading his post on the Golden Eagles forum he was receiving everything but constructive criticism."Frankly, I'm getting tired of these "developer-meltdowns" Quoted from another post here. While I haven't had a meltdown resulting from releasing my Starduster, I supervise people day in and day out in my job that do nothing but complain. After hearing "I don't want that" , "Why can't I go this route rather than the other route", "Don't you have anything else?" in excess of 40 times a day, I can certainly relate to these "developer-meltdowns" Sure I get "thank you" sometimes but unfortunately the bad always seems to outweigh the good that happens. "I saw Bill's comments about "a horrible thread in the free for all cesspool they call a forum at avsim"(sic), but I cannot believe how he can remove the aircraft based on the comments made in this thread, which I found friendly for the most part. Isn't it allowed to discuss anything openly anymore and call one addon better than another?" Also quoted from the previous post I referred to.Unfortunately Bill is right though, I have seen post after post here escalate to a free for all before the mods step in. Ok, I'm off my soapbox now...Darrell
  10. And please don't forget realistic thermals, ridge lift, waves, and sink! Looks like you're having fun with SilentWings also :) What drivers are you using for your Radeon? The P-Buffers option that's required for the Cambridge set causes small stutters with my system. I updated the drivers and the stutters improved, but they're still not completely gone.Darrell
  11. I tried the ambient wind y, haven't tried the other one yet. It froze the needle at '0'. Hmmmmm.... still trying :)Darrell
  12. Well I've started hacking some of the default xml gauges and now actually have a working airspeed indicator and vsi for my glider. The only problem is the vsi is working like a normal vsi that shows the rate the aircraft is climbing or descending. Does anyone know how I can change this to model a TE (total energy) vario? If you're unfamiliar with a TE compensated vario, it just compensates for any apparent lift or sink caused by airspeed changes (ie: a false climb indication caused by a pilot pulling back on the stick. In other words, the aircraft may be climbing even though it is in "sinking" air. The TE vario reads the rate of rise or sink of the airmass the plane is flying thru, more so than the rate of climb or sink of the glider. Here's the xml code for what I have so far: &ltGauge Name="DG808vsi" Version="1.0"&gt &ltImage Name="vario.bmp" Luminous="Yes" ImageSizes="256,256" /&gt - &ltElement&gt &ltPosition X="126" Y="126" /&gt - &ltImage Name="needle_01.bmp" Luminous="Yes" ImageSizes="119,7"&gt &ltAxis X="14" Y="3" PointsTo="East" /&gt &lt/Image&gt - &ltRotate&gt &ltValue Minimum="-10" Maximum="10"&gt(A:Vertical speed,feet per minute) 100 /&lt/Value&gt - &ltFailures&gt &ltSYSTEM_PITOT_STATIC Action="0" /&gt &ltGAUGE_VERTICAL_SPEED Action="Freeze" /&gt &lt/Failures&gt - &ltNonlinearity&gt &ltItem Value="-10" X="189" Y="184" /&gt &ltItem Value="-6" X="118" Y="209" /&gt &ltItem Value="-4" X="82" Y="194" /&gt &ltItem Value="-2" X="57" Y="165" /&gt &ltItem Value="0" X="48" Y="126" /&gt &ltItem Value="2" X="54" Y="90" /&gt &ltItem Value="4" X="80" Y="60" /&gt &ltItem Value="6" X="115" Y="45" /&gt &ltItem Value="10" X="188" Y="68" /&gt &lt/Nonlinearity&gt &ltDelay DegreesPerSecond="30" /&gt &lt/Rotate&gt &lt/Element&gt &lt/Gauge&gt Darrell
  13. Hello Pub, I'm sure you are going to get a lot of responses to this question as people tend to be quite opinionated when it comes to these 2 programs :) I'm not familiar with fsds but from what I have learned from reading other posts it is apparently more "user friendly" as it was created primarily for aircraft modeling in flightsim. In gmax you will find it has a sort of arcane round-a-bout way of getting things accomplished sometimes. Gmax does give some features that arent available in the current version of fsds though, such as the ability to add XML code, some of which others have freely posted, to an XML file. This will allow you to basically name an associated part in gmax and assign an animation to it, or almost anything else for that matter. I vote for gmax, #1 because it's free, I've finally learned how to use (some of it) :) and it just seems to offer more cool options than fsds. Either program though in the right hands is capable of producing an outstanding aircraft!Darrell
  14. :-lol Yes you did Bill! Thanks!I got the gauge Doug, haven't had time to try it yet, but it sounds like what I may be looking for! Thanks,Darrell
  15. Hi all, I posted a message over at the FFDS forum and it was suggested that I check here for help. I'm modeling a glider in gmax that has 2 water ballast tanks in each wing along with 2 fuselage tanks. Basically depending on which 2 wing tanks are being dumped, one of the fuselage tanks will dump also so the CG stays in acceptable limits. The water dumps are controlled by 2 different knobs in the cockpit. I'm looking for the XML code that will allow me to name these parts in gmax so that when I export the .mdl file I can click on the knobs in the vc and have this start the "water dump" effect. I know nothing about XML programming and have on idea where to start,or even if it could be done. Thanks,Darrell
