  1. Interesting given that my joystick is only about 6 weeks old. Nonetheless I will give all these helpful hints a try and hopefully I'll be flying trouble free. Andy Solaini
  2. Mike I see what you are saying but I think it's very unlikely that I'm accidentally nudging the throttles. I say this because they aren't really in a position where you'd nudge them and also the fact that it happens on every takeoff I do with the 777 makes me think it's unlikely I would nudge it by accident every time. Andy Solaini
  3. Thanks very much for that Thomas I will try it on my next flight. Andy Solaini
  4. Actually not there are not fully forward. I advance throttles to 60% N1 to let the stabilise then hit TOGA but leave the throttles where they were. So not at idle but not fully forwards. This is the technique I have used in about 10 years of simming and it's only on the 777 that it throws up a problem, the NGX I do the same but it's fine, for example. Maybe it's just that the 777 is more advance and realistic? Andy Solaini
  5. No you didn't come across as harsh Thomas. I probably didn't explain it well in my initial post but the throttles retard and the message on the PFD says something like "throttle hold" but I can't remember the exact wording. Maybe I will re-read the tutorial flight as it's been a long time since I read it. I might have missed or forgotten something... Andy Solaini
  6. Yes I think it would be somewhere around 80 knots. I thought it was probably something the 777 was doing deliberately rather than a bug in the software. It's a bit annoying thought because I either have the throttle problem or I end up going off the runway if there is any kind of wind on the plane. PS - I have done the tutorial and it was informative but doesn't deal with this issue I am having. Andy Solaini
  7. I have a Saitek Cyborg Fly 5 joystick with a twist grip for the rudder. I use this to keep on the centre line during the takeoff roll in the 777. However when I get up some speed and need to twist the rudder to keep in line it always put the A/T into hold mode rather than keeping in TOGA. Is this a known problem and are there any solutions? This only happens with the PMDG 777 and no other addons I have including ones from PMDG. Thanks for any help. Andy Solaini
  8. I reinstalled the 777 last night and tried it this evening. I got really bad fps of 8-10 with Traffic at 0% and all other sliders about mid way! All was going ok during the preflight but while I was taxiing I looked down to the Checklist thing and all of a sudden FSX froze completely. The sound of the engines was still running and Task Manager didn't said FSX was running fine but the FSX screen was all black and I couldn't get back to the sim. I'm going to try the exact same route and settings in the LDS 767 to see if it's a more fundamental FSX error or one with the 777. I should point out that I have had the 777 running fine up until just before Christmas. Andy
  9. Well the odd thing is that when it happened a few buttons were ok but most not. I then tried messing with a few views, pressing the alt menu etc etc which sometimes sorts things out. It did and some of the buttons that weren't working started to work again but only for a few seconds then they died for good. I don't know what would have happened after than because I quite FSX because landing would have been impossible! I also ought to add that my memory use was normal for FSX so I don't suspect OOM errors. Andy
  10. I tried to do a long haul in the 777 this evening and had some problems. About half way through the flight I went to spot view and the body of the plane was invisible, only the engine fans and cockpit were showing. After cycling through some views for a while it worked again so I though it was all good. Then as I was nearing the TOD I came back to my computer to find I couldn't click many of the buttons in the VC or 2D panels. Some of them on the overhead worked but none in the main captains panel. What would cause this issue? I will also contact PMDG support directly to try and help. Andy
  11. I'm trying to buy the 777 but I can't access the shop part of your website. Not just for the 777, any product I click on the buy button and eventually the webpage just hangs. How can I buy your 777? Andy Solaini
  12. So do I just delete this file or do I have to tweak something as well?
  13. Not a lot of AI showing really. I have UT2 set at 70% and traffic slider in FSX turned to zero. If it is AI is there anything that can be done? Andy S
  14. I wonder if anyone can help me with a major problem I am having in FSX? Basically I get pretty good fps (28-35) in the VC of the NGX using ASE, REX, GEX a small amount of UT2 AI. When I am on approach at about 2000-3000 feet I get a really bad drop in fps from about 25 right down to 8-12. As I said this only happen on the final part of approach and last about until I have parked at the gate where it will usually shoot back up to 25-35. I am using a pretty powerful computer, i7 2600K, GTX570, 16GB RAM. Why do I get such an fps hit on approach? Andy S
  15. Mel I have tried some of your suggestions. There is some dust in my computer but not more than normal. It's been worse in the past with no problems.Drivers - I have had this problem with at least the 3 latest nvidia drivers so I'm assuming it's unlikely to be that that's causing the problem. My PSU is this one http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?q=gx+550w+psu&hl=en&safe=off&prmd=imvns&resnum=2&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1600&bih=775&ix=seb&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=959584061799219397&sa=X&ei=MWBeT-XCNOrV0QWpgtWODA&ved=0CHkQ8wIwAAHeat - I am not sure how hot it gets but to touch they graphics card it doesn't feel too hot or anything and it's ASUS health checker utility doesn't seem to say it's too hot. Andy
  16. Just noticed that the menu flickering is mainly when switching views while FS renders the new view. I have also been noticing that FS is taking a bit longer than normal to render textures in general and it has a tenancy to hang/pause for a split second quite often. Andy S
  17. The problem only seems to exist in FS though. You might be right about it being on it's way out but surely it would show up in other things? Do you know of any tools or utilities to test nvidia cards for problems? My card is a GTX460. Andy S
  18. On my next flight after posing the above it happened again on descent. The menu bar had been flickering intermitnatly during the whole flight but on switching views on descent the whole screen filled completely with the word "module". The word was repeated all over the screen! It is the same size and text as the word "module" in the top FS9 menu bar. What the hell is causing this!!!!Andy S
  19. Video card drivers are up to date and the problem has happened with the previous few versions of the drivers as well.My graphics card is an Asus GTX460 and my computer is a Dual Core 3.5GHz, 4GB RAM running W7 64-bit.The problem hasn't happened right from the start of having this computer. It started sometime before Christmas but I really can't remember exactly when.Andy S
  20. When running FS9 in windowed mode I get a very strange graphics problem. The menu bar at the top of the screen flickers a lot, then after a while (normally about when I reach cruise part of the flight) the menu starts repeating itself all the way down the screen! TO explain what I mean all of a sudden a row below the menu appears that is identical to the menu bar. Then another below that, then another and so on until after a few seconds the whole screen is full of text!At this point I have to exit FS9.This doesn't happen in full-screen mode but I don't like using full-screen because it makes the sim "hang" too much when changing menus and views and makes anything connected by FSUIPC stop working.I really how no idea how to solve this and between the two problems it is making it virtually impossible to use FS at all.Andy S
  21. Thanks Ron I will give those a try.
  22. I keep getting an intermittent problem with FSUIPC disconnecting. I usually start FS9 in windowed mode and then switch to full screen with Alt+Enter before I push back. Sometimes, but not every time, when I hit Alt+Enter the screen goes black for a second then I hear the Windows 7 chime and all the things connecting via FSUIPC (Radar Contact/FS Realtime etc) all crash and report that the connection to FSUIPC has been lost. This doesn't happen at any other time than switching screen modes. Why is this happening and is there a fix? I have tried about three versions FSUIPC and the same problem happens with them all.Andy S
  23. That system looks very tasty. Any idea how the i5 compares to the i7? Are we taking just a few fps hit in FSX? In theory I could splash the cash and get the system above but with the i7 from the one I quoted if it would be really worth it?Andy S
  24. I asked a friend who builds computers for a job to spec me up a machine for £1000 or less and this is what he came up with. Any thoughts on this one? It all looks sweet as to me but I was wondering if the 600W PSU was enough power?Andy S
  25. Good to know I will get very acceptable fps. And points about OCZ noted Corey. How well does this computer compare with the list of parts I have posted. http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/153/frontgdj.jpg Someone on another forum is selling it and I might be able to do a swap or trade from my iMac. Or am I better off just building one myself?Andy S
