  1. Version 1.5.1 out. Haven't had a chance to try on FSX yet. http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/sweetfx_shader_suite_download.html
  2. Looks nice! I will definitely give this one a try since I am also a DX10er. Thanks for sharing!
  3. Thanks. I will try it out. Does anyone notice a difference between the way SFX looks with DX9 vs. DX10? I feel like a lot of the settings that FSX'ers developed with DX9 and look great in pictures, tends to look different under DX10.
  4. Looks great! Is this DX9 or DX10?
  5. Got a good SFX configuration you'd like to share, PDX?
  6. DX10 is the ONLY mode I can get it to work in. Check your installation routine or your the settings you used. Perhaps something is out of whack.
  7. New version out. (1.4) http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=376265 Changelog Version 1.4 Adds the Border shader as a workaround for the bright screenedge forcing certain AA modes can cause Adds the Cartoon shader that can make the image look more cartoonish Adds the Advanced CRT shader that can mimic the look of an old arcade CRT display Adds the Monochrome shader that removes the colors Adds the FXAA shader as an alternative to SMAA for the few people that still prefer it. (only in DX9 for now though) Improved the Curves shader so it can now apply contrast to Chroma as well as Luma (as before) or both Improved the performance of formula 5 in the Curves shader (the simplified Catmull-rom spline) Improved the Dither shader with the option to use Random Dithering. Improved the Dither shader so now uses a subpixel dithering pattern. (Both when using Random or Ordered Dithering) Lowered the default SMAA threshold to 0.10 so fewer aliased lines escape processing. Fixed a bug where dark areas could on occasion appear when HDR and Lumasharpen where both activated at the same time. The alpha channel is now cleared before outputting the image to prevent it messing with screenshots converted to png. The SweetFX settings file now include a description field to help keep of which version the settings are for. Improved the Vignette shader to allow you to create oval shaped vignettes. Curves_formula 2 is now the default Curves formula. Includes some notes on how you can make custom shaders
  8. Pre Alpha release of SweetFX just dropped here According to the post here it includes: New (incomplete) features: FXAA - only works in DX9 so far and I need to tweak it for quality. You guys can help here by finding good default values for it. An incomplete cartoon shader Border shader for making the screenedges black The dither shader now does subpixel dithering, which makes it look slightly smoother There are more features planned for the final 2.0 version. Remember, this is a pre-alpha so expect issues and problems but some may want to play with it. Good to see that the dev is still working on it.
  9. This might help. (Sweetfx configurator) http://sweetfx.thelazy.net/
  10. You are not the first person in this thread to indicate that they use that method for their FSX experience.
  11. I will be the first to admit that what the various injectors produce may not be the closest thing to reality but I also think that FSX's representation of reality (at least as far as visuals are concerned) are driven somewhat by what the sim is capable of producing. For me, using sweetfx is like cleaning a dirty windscreen that is FSX visuals. Can cloud cover and fog, etc. reduce visibility? Sure. But I just don't like the blander, less vibrant colors that default FSX produces any more than I like the jaggies that a non-anti-aliased scene results in. As far as what you are missing, I think an argument could be made that these tools have a wider variety of adjustments and effects than the Nvidia control panel does. Not only that, but I am not a fan of having to adjust my screen output every time I play FSX. I use my computer for a multitude of things and, once adjusted, sweetfx (and the like) is just more "plug and play" for me. It only affects FSX. Not the output of everything on the computer. Bottom line is: Why don't you give one of these tools a try? I don't think the screen shots really give you a proper example of what it looks like in the sim. They are fairly easy to install and remove and there are plenty of settings in various threads to get you started. It is certainly a matter of personal taste but at at least you could see what all the fuss is about. Good luck either way.
  12. That look great! I will try those settings out soon. Are you using anything else besides Sweetfx?
  13. I see. That is unfortunate. If I can find anything that might help, I will let you know. Good luck
  14. Why don't you like DX10 mode?
  15. I definitely see a difference. I did not change the SMAA settings in your file. Just enabled it. Makes things sharper for me. Also adds a little contrast. I am running DX10 preview. Maybe that is a difference. (I think you forgot to turn off the split screen in the daytime one, too.) I haven't tried your night version yet. Daytime version looked fine at night to me. Will try it later. Thanks again for sharing.
  16. I really like your settings, Eef. Subtle, but still noticeable. It's like cleaning a really hazy windscreen. Suddenly, the sky is blue instead of blue/grey and the ground textures are more vibrant. For me, I added in the SMAA because I like the added clarity it provides. FSX looks much more real to me now. (Or, at least what I imagine real to be. I am not anything like a real pilot.) Might be just prettier...hehe. But, I like it! Thanks for sharing.
  17. There hasn't been any discussion of FSX in their forum but you might want to try to ask about this in the official SweetFX discussion thread here. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=368880 Maybe the author of the software has a suggestion.
  18. Well, Six. This did not work for me. When I copied the settings from your post into my SweetFX txt file, the game wouldn't start. So, since I really wanted to see what you were getting to after two days of work, I copied the settings, one at a time, into the SweetFX configurator and reset the injector after each setting. It was looking pretty nice until I got to the sepia settings. Way too strong on my system. Looked like someone sprayed brown paint all over everything. I know this could not be what you were seeing so I wonder why it is so different. I am using DX10. Are you? Maybe that is the problem. Any idea why I could be seeing something so different than you? I am pretty certain that I got all the settings right. Especially the sepia ones since it was what wonked everything out so much for me. Maybe I got it wrong. Try uploading your txt file directly up here instead of copy and paste. (Click "more reply options" and upload the file using the "Attach files" menu.) Maybe the copy and paste lost something in the translation. Thanks for sharing, though.
  19. I am glad that works for you. Sounds like it would cost zero frames as well. But, since you asked, I am will suggesting some answers to your question. Wouldn't making the settings you mention affect all your games and applications? Even if you get it to look just the way you want, wouldn't you have to reset/fiddle with it every time you did anything besides FSX? I don't know. Perhaps there is a way to tie these settings into the Nvidia control panel so that they automatically launch when you start the sim. If not, this might be a disadvantage to some. Also, SweetFX seems to have settings for SMAA and Luma sharpen which is supposed to sharpen the image quality, if I understand it correctly. (These effects are supposed to have a modest negative effect on frames, too.) For me, this improves the image quality in ways that the control panel adjustments you suggested may not. I am not connected to SweetFX in any way so I don't mean to sound like I am pushing anyone to use it if they don't like it or if they have something that works better for them. Just trying to bring some information to the users here about something that I stumbled on that I really like.
  20. For those who may have trouble installing and editing SweetFX, here is a recent post from the original thread at guru3d.com. It contains links to the SweetFX configurator. You can use this to set up and configure SweetFX on any of your games (including FSX). Warning-As you can see, this is still in active development. YMMV. Refer to OP at guru3d for updates, etc. Original post is in this thread: http://forums.guru3d...=368880&page=32 (Hope this quote is ok for me to post in here. If not, sorry in advance. ) Originally Posted by Terrasque Updated version of SweetFX Configurator released Changes * Fixed settings-deleting bug! * Added int number slider * Fixed launching of some games * Removed crash on old config files (will not crash, but will not be able to parse it properly either) Download * Installer : https://dl.dropbox.c....nfigurator.zip * Standalone : https://dl.dropbox.c....standalone.zip Settings-eating bug When using "Add SweetFX" the file copy operation was set to "overwrite" - which caused some problems when doing "Remove SweetFX" and then "Add SweetFX" - the remove part would keep the settings intact, but the add part would clobber everything back to default. I am really sorry for that, and hope no one lost settings because of it. There is one small hope, though. Every time the program saves a new setting, it makes a copy of the old one, named "SweetFX_settings.txt.orig" - so if you have removed -> added, and NOT made any changes since then, that file should still hold the old settings. Because of that bug, this was a slightly rushed release, and the int slider is not as polished as I'd wanted. The UI have some un-needed spaces here and there, since the TrackBar component have greater height than most other components. So, the UI will be fixed up a bit on that later on. I also wanted to properly detect old settings files, and give a message to the user, but didn't have the time needed for that. Prioritized getting a fix for that bug out ASAP instead. Hopefully I'll get to polish those things a bit better tomorrow.
  21. It is very adjustable via a text file (SweetFX_settings.txt). It is commented pretty clearly in the file as to what the settings do. Just pause FSX. Open the SweetFX_settings.txt file from the FSX folder. Change a parameter. Save the file. Go back to FSX and press the pause/break key to see the results. You don't have to quit FSX. You don't even have to unpause FSX. You will see the effects immediately. Those who do not see a change might want to try editing the file with some extreme settings just to see if there is a difference. Perhaps, on your system, the default settings don't show much difference. As mentioned by other posters however, some are experiencing an FPS loss with this effect. You may be one of the lucky ones without much of a loss or you may not be seeing it due to the locked frames. Good luck!
  22. Yes, of course, you are correct. I mentioned that in my post. However, in my experience, that is not typical for me. Also, I had both the HDR and bloom enabled just to really see a worst case scenario. I am sure that it may vary with where you are flying and what you are flying. However, as with anything else, YMMV. 20% would be a severe drop.
  23. OK, How about a couple more screenies. This is flying NE, toward Chicago, at about 1/2 hour before dusk. As you might expect, the sun is coming from more or less behind me. I am not sure these shots will show you how much deeper the colors are with the effect on or how much more pronounced the contrast is on the sunlit, west side of the buildings but you can really see it when you toggle them off and on in the sim. What you probably will not be able to see is the nice sharpening effect the SMAA gives to the textures and edges. Again, I am flying with DX10 preview on and it really seems to show the effects better that DX9. In fact, I could not really see much effect at all with these particular settings in DX9 mode. So, try it with DX10 and see how you do. Also, I am currently using my old AMD 5770 as my new card (7970) is RMA'd so I am only using one screen (1920x1200). Normally, I run in Eyefinity in 3X landscape at 5770x1200. I have the anti aliasing checked on in FSX and filtering at the highest setting. In my SweetFX settings, I turned on both bloom and the HDR effect turned on to create a worst case scenario as far as frames are concerned. I also have both these effects turned down some from their defaults in the settings because I prefer a more subtle effect. I am flying the stock Cessna 172, UT2 and UTX active. My bloom switch in FSX is OFF. The sim was paused when I grabbed the frames. While the screen shots show a drop of about 10 fps, I am really not seeing that in the sim. The hit is more like 4-5 frames. Less than 10% for sure. It might be a lot worse when I get my 7970 back and go back to the Eyefinity resolutions but I am excited to try it out.
  24. Since I think they both use the same kind of .dll to work, I am pretty sure that, if you install SweetFX, it will overwrite that file and and enb will be replaced by this. Please, someone with more knowledge, correct me if I am wrong. BTW-I see a MUCH more pronounced effect using DX10 preview. Try it.
  25. Since I believe both enb and this use a modified d3d9.dll, I am afraid it is one or the other. However, if I recall correctly, enb can only be used with DX9. I am able to use SweetFX with DX10 preview.
