Traffic Causing FS Crash at Dawn/Dusk
Thanks for your comments, Mel. I do have FS9.1. Didn't think about night textures at one of my add-on airports in the area. Lots of variables here so I'll either just fly SoCal in the daytime or... might try deactivating airports one by one to see if that helps. Thanks to all for your replies. You've all helped me. In the 'grand scheme' it's not a big deal....but you're helping me learn a bit about how it all ties together. Still amazed by FS9 after all this time. Steve

Traffic Causing FS Crash at Dawn/Dusk
Thank you for taking the time to reply.....even after all these years - still a learning process for some of us. Peter, you are right about the clouds possibly causing problems. I had a HD could texture set installed - that I've since replaced - as it was causing crashes for me everywhere. I don't think it is related to sky or clouds in this case as I'm only having this problem in the S. California/Arizona area. Maybe it is a bad AI texture related to one or more aircraft that are scheduled to appear at one of those airports at that time of day. If I'm creating/starting a flight at dawn at KONT for example and the bad aircraft texture or flight plan is at KPSP or another nearby airport, would it still cause a crash - or only if the faulty plane was at the airport I'm loading? Not sure how far reaching the errors might be or what that might effect in the general area. I'll play around with this and if I'm able to pinpoint the problem, I'll post the solution.. might help someone else. Thanks again for your input. Much appreciated. Steve

Traffic Causing FS Crash at Dawn/Dusk
Hello, I hope this question isn't to vague or needlessly complicated. I usually have my traffic slider set at 80%. No problems anywhere in the world, but if I try to load a flight from airports in Southern California - KLAX, KBUR, KLGB, KONT, KPSP and at KPHX at Dawn or Dusk.... the status bar gets to Loading Traffic 92% then it stalls and after a few seconds I get the "encountered a problem must close" popup. If I select the same flight (aircraft/airport) at Day or if I move my Traffic slider to 50% or less, the flight/airport loads fine. As this only occurs in a certain region and only at Dawn or Dusk, I'm guessing the the problem may be a funky flight plan, AFCAD or a faulty AI Aircraft... but, I'm not sure what to look at if anything. I do have add on airports at those locations. As I can work around this problem it's not a big deal, but I'm just curious what might be causing the crashes - if you have any ideas. Thanks for reading my question! Steve

ATC has gone missing... can you help?
Joe, thank you for your reply. I may have been messing around with switches on some overhead panel. I sincerely appreciate the advice/suggestion. Still learning after all these years.

ATC has gone missing... can you help?
So, I tried some different aircraft and loaded a new flight. This time, GPS and ATC were working and I was able to request taxi clearance, etc., but then a short time later as I was taxiing, the GPS went black and ATC stopped working. GPS and ATC seem to be there but just not working correctly. Any ideas on what I might do to fix this? Have never seen this particular problem before. Thank you! Steve

ATC has gone missing... can you help?
Hello, My ATC is not working. It was yesterday, but now when viewing the 'choose an option' ATC window, if I select a number for a taxi option for example, nothing happens. Not hearing any other ATC chatter and the popup Garmin is blank. It appears that everything else is working fine and all other sounds are OK. ATC is disabled or missing and I do not know where to look or how to restore it. I have searched the form, rebooted, made sure all the appropriate option boxes are checked, etc. but no change. If anyone is able to help me it would be much appreciated. Thanks, Steve

Loading Scenery Objects Stuck at 0%
Thanks Richy.... don't have REX but I appreciate the input. Haven't ever messed around with the Scenery.cfg .... but, are these entries (Area numbers) supposed to be out of numerical order? I know that doesn't work with the aircraft. Thanks, Steve Random sample: [Area.037] Title=Propeller Objects Local=Scenery\props Layer=39 Active=TRUE Required=TRUE Remote= [Area.038] Title=Addon Scenery Local=Addon Scenery Layer=40 Active=TRUE Required=FALSE Remote= [Area.045] Title=City of Memphis, TN Local=Addon Scenery\City of Memphis, TN Remote= Active=TRUE Required=FALSE Layer=252 [Area.049] Title=Downtown Nashville Local=Addon Scenery\Downtown Nashville Remote= Active=TRUE Required=FALSE Layer=250 [Area.055]

Loading Scenery Objects Stuck at 0%
Hello.... Hopefully someone can help me..... Have had no problems for years, but now when I create or select any flight - doesn't seem to matter what aircraft or airport - after clicking FLY NOW... the splash screen appears then the popup window saying LOADING SCENERY OBJECTS... 0%. Won't go any further. After waiting a reasonable time, I check the Task Manager and it says Flight Simulator is "not responding." I do not recall changing anything recently that might generate this issue. I have defragged, changed my default flight in FS9 cfg, have deleted FS9 cfg... none of that helped. Something is messed up with scenery somewhere, I presume. Maybe a recent add on scenery or the Scenery cfg? Any guidance or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Steve

The best US airports freeware
Have to agree with mentions of Shez's airports. All very nice. I especially like KBUR. My ONE pick is LIRF - Roma Fiumicino from Italian Scenery Design (ISD) I think their website is no longer up, but if you fly in Italy and can find their Italian airports (Rome, Milan, Venice, etc.) they are nicely done and well worth the free download.Try Here: http://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads-cat-70.htmlAlso, don't miss:FRF STUDIO: http://www.frfstudio.net/home.htmlMACH 1: http://mach1designgroup.webs.com/scenery.htmThanks to all of these talented designers!(free is good!)Steve

Frame Rates?
Gotta agree with Carl on this. I had my framerate locked at 24 forever, because I thought that was what you were supposed to do. Saw someone else's post somewhere about setting it to 'unlimited.' I did.... and now it's a whole new world for me. Results may vary, but for me, ground textures seem to load much faster eliminating scenery blurries.Thsnks,Steve

Help with blotchy multi-colored grass!
Hello ...I'm one of those pitiful individuals who spend more time tweaking than flying and somehow I've managed to end up with grass textures - noticible at airports - that have become multi-colored and very blotchy. Didn't used to be this way. I've tried replacing detail1 with alternate grass textures and just installed Picnic to see what might change. Nothing. Something seems to be overlapping or overriding any new textues installed. Is that possible? I can't seem to get the grass to change where it had previously with alternate textures.Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for your help,Steve

Light positions
>"The first number after "light" is the type: beacon, strobe,>nav, etc.>The second number (in this example 0.90) is front and back or>fore and aft. Lower value moves light towards nose, higher>towards tail.">>> That's not quite correct. The light positions are with>respect to the reference datum of the plane. Positive values>are forward of the RD, negative values aft of the RD. The>second and third numbers are the left/right values and the>up/down values with respect to the RD. For most FS planes the>RD is near the center of the plane, but there are a few out>there with the RD on the nose; PMDG comes to mind.>>> Mike>>Hi Mike,Thank you for that additional information. I'm not really that clear on how it all works and you're right, some models will be different. With some trial and error, I've been able to modify, add and/or move some lights on the planes I have, mostly Dreamwings, Posky and ifdg jets..Appreciate your input on this! Thanks,Steve

Light positions
Hi Ed,I have played with the lights on many of my aircraft - replaced some of the default strobes and nav lights with some brighter versions that look better to me. I cannot provide you with the specific coordinates you are looking for for your B777, but with some trial and error, you should be able to position lights on this or any other aircraft that you would like to modify. In your aircraft folder open the CFG and find the "Lights" section that will look something like this:[LIGHTS]//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpitlight.0 = 3, 0.90, -32.00, 2.90, NAV_redS ,light.1 = 3, 0.90, 32.00, 2.90, NAV_greenS ,The first number after "light" is the type: beacon, strobe, nav, etc.The second number (in this example 0.90) is front and back or fore and aft. Lower value moves light towards nose, higher towards tail. The third number, lower value towards fuselage, higher towards wing tip and the fourth number (2.90 above) is up and down. Less moves light lower, more moves it higher. The last notation is the fx file of the actual "light" you are using that is probably in your Effects folder.Save your changes in the CFG, then you'll have to select another livery of the same aircraft and load that to see your changes. Note that on planes with flexing wings, you might want to set the light locations (if you're adding lights) when airborne as on some models the wings move, but the lights you place will not.I do not know how to move lights exactly where they should be the first time and this often takes quite a few tries adjusting numbers up and down to get them placed properly. Hope that helps some. Steve

Problem with Antialiasing after switching from ATI -> Nvidia
I also had antialiasing problems no matter what my card settings when we switched from ATI to Nvidia GeForce. Someone somewhere posted a suggestion to click ON antialiasing in FS. I did and it worked for me. Jaggies and shimmering textures are gone. Try that if you haven't already.Steve

Rainbow Colors In Clouds And Lights
>Are you using 32bit color or 16bit?Thank you for taking the time to reply to my question. Monitor display is set at 32bit. The Nvidia control panel Color Quality slider is to the right - Highest (32bit) Refresh rate is 75hz.I have 1280x1024 resolution set on monitor and FS if that makes any difference. Is there another place to check for 32bit color setting?Thank you.Steve

Rainbow Colors In Clouds And Lights
First, I want to thank everyone that contributes to these forums. I've learned a lot, but have a ways to go....Our video card went bad and was just replaced with GEFORCE 7600GS card. I have found suggestions for settings in this forum and to me, everything looks great (better) so far, except now I have a rainbow or water color effect in aircraft landing lights. Also, clouds are not rendering properly and I'm seeing the color effect there as well.I'm guessing it may be a setting issue and can hopefully be easily resolved. I have tried different combinations, but no luck so far. If anyone can help me, it would be very much appreciated!Thank you.SteveNvidia settings:Anistropic 16Antialiasing - Gamma - On / Setting 8XS / SupersamplingForce Mipmaps - TrilinearTexture Filtering - ClampTexture Quality - High QualityTriple Buffering - Off By the way... after installing this card and messing around with the settings, I could not get rid of jagged edges on my aircraft and shimmering taxi lines and distant scenery. Found a post by "Apollo" that suggested checking ON antialiasing in FS - never would have tried that as most seem to advise against it - BUT... BAM - AA checked on in FS cured my shimmers and jaggies.?!?Thanks for reading and for any suggestions with the color issue.

EMB 170 Panel View Question
Hello Panel Experts I just installed Uwe Ingber's beautiful Embraer 170 panel. It looks great and I'm happy with it.. except, when using the left or right views, the wings are visible right outside my window as if they're sticking out of the cockpit. Haven't seen this before. What have I done wrong? Is there a way in the config file of the panel or the aircraft to move the wings back where they should be? Thank you for your help.Steve

Real Environment Pro Cloud Reflections
>I would really suggest either investing in Flight Environment>which will greatly enhance your water as well as your>sky/clouds, or if you prefer freeware try the water>enhancements by Bill and Lynn Lyons e.g. waterzone.zip here at>AVSIM.Thank you for the tip! I installed waterzone as you suggested... looks great and my cloud issue has cleared up. Appreciate your assistance! - Steve

Real Environment Pro Cloud Reflections
I've installed Real Environment Pro and am very happy with the effects and enhancements... except for these funky, spiky cloud reflections that appear for me at certain altitudes/angles over any body of water. Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this, delete the effect or adjust a setting?Although I've spent a lot of time reading and learning here - this is my first post - thanks to all of you for sharing your knowledge and experience! - Steve
