  1. I concur with the general sentiment in this thread, it is a nice era of flight simming happening right now. MSFS has some things that I wish the developers would take time to fix, but overall it is an awesome sim that performs marvelously on my hardware setup. And as others have said, there is a plethora of good aircraft, scenery and utility addons, both payware and freeware. I just bought the ENGM Oslo scenery, which is amazing, the new Active Sky for MSFS which I am enjoying, and I am going to purchase the OV-10 Bronco at some point today as well. And, as soon at the BS Dukes drop, I'll be scooping them up too! So many good airplanes and airports. word not allowed, it feels good to be a flight simmer 😁

I noticed this as well - all of the issues you mention.

As for the weather radar, I couldn’t care less

I have noticed the temp knobs. Haven't looked for the cabin lights yet, as I have not yet done a night flight with the latest Fenix update. Still, the update has improved my overall Fenix A320 experience, and the aircraft is more fun that ever to fly, in my experience. And, I can do with or without the weather radar. I have survived in the sim world this long without one, so I can survive longer 😉

Avsim is awesome! Sure, at times my blood pressure gets a tad high (the Dune loading screen "discussion" comes to mind) - but mostly it's just a great place for likeminded enthusiasts.

    Agreed 🙂

And, I have no issues with this always being made a sticky. I would rather read about the latest MSFS update notes here than on the official MSFS forum anyway. Much easier to navigate here.

Before I demote you to Lt.....

You need to check out Vincent's stuff. Best freeware GA airports ever.

His @vbazillio freeware GA stuff is pretty darn good, I will concur. I have all of his airports downloaded and installed. And he keeps them updated nicely too!

I suspect it has something to do with the motherboard it's on as well, though the chip is a factor (which I determined because the headphones worked fine with the 2700X, and then started dropping out when I put the 5800X3d on the same motherboard without changing anything else). But I've seen some reports that the problem goes away on certain motherboards with a firmware update. It's definitely not something that will hit everyone - I only mentioned it because I pulled my hair out for months and went through 3 different wireless headsets before I finally started finding people correlating the interference to the chip.

I can definitely appreciate how much of a PITA that had to be to troubleshoot. Those kinds of issues are frustrating to say the least. It makes sense that it happens with some motherboards and not others. There is such a spread of variety when it comes to hardware in the PC world, even within the same platform, that it's a wonder we don't experience even more weird problems than we do. All that said, I do find the 7800X3D such a remarkable stable and good platform for gamin and flight simming. I don't use my flight sim PC for productivity tasks, so the 7800X3D is perfect for my use at this point. At least you were able to nail down the cause of your audio issues, because that would eventually lead to mass hair pulling for me...lol.

Obviously, but claiming it is "not a common problem" because you, personally, have not encountered it comes across as, at best, confusion over how statistics work.

Okay, fair point. My intent was to emphasis that I have a good, 3 year combined history using those two chips and have not encountered said audio problem, so a fair sample size. Also, across the board of other 7800X3D and 5800X3D users here on these forums, this was the first time I had ever heard of it being an issue, so another reason why I posted what I did. But, a common problem? Possibly, just not in my experience.

Very similar here. If I crank up the resolution to "5K" however, the 4090 is running at a constant 99%.

Yes, same here when I experimented with that resolution. I could run most places just fine, but there were some bigger, busier airports at that resolution that were a little stuttery, so I decided the resolution wasn't worth the tradeoff in performance, especially when 4k looks so good.

Yeah but this comes back to my original thought. I also run a single 4K monitor 144Hz with G-Sync and can (more or less) max out graphics settings and maintain liquid smooth 60+ FPS. On a RTX4070Ti Super. So if my GPU is waiting on the CPU, I imagine your RTX 4090 is hardly awake, let alone breaking a sweat.😁 if you are not main thread limited tho, what does the FPS counter show as the limiting factor in your system?

I have it tuned so that it bounces back between CPU and GPU limited. My GPU typically runs more around 50% on a typical flight, and my CPU is being used around 42-45%. I am also running a fair amount of AI traffic and GSX if that matters, plus I fly into and out of a lot of the iniBuilds airports that other simmers complain give them stutters, which on my system I don't have a problem with. Lastly, my system temps are around 52-55C while simming. Granted, I live in Colorado where the temps are very cold to mild most of the year, and my PC is in my basement which is nice and cool. But I have also built my machine for maximum airflow and it is cooled with AIO too, so that all helps. The final result is a sim PC that runs nice and cool, very efficient and MSFS performs very smoothly on it as detailed above.

And some of us that got the 4090 for the sake of having the latest and greatest, are possibly feeling a bit regretful about that today.

And some of us are absolutely NOT regretting buying a 4090 😊😁. Mine has been great and I have been getting my money's worth out of it. It pairs really well with a 7800X3D and my sim and PC are NOT main thread limited. With the 4090, you have a lot of room to play with the settings within MSFS and the Nvidia settings to get a good balance between CPU and GPU. I run in 4k on one screen, fly mostly the Fenix A320 and all is smooth and nice. I run locked at 63 on my 144Hz G-Sync display and I don't use any auto fps apps or t-lod apps. I am not doing anything weird with my settings, no secret sauce. Just MSFS and Nvidia, a 7800X3D, G-Sync display and a 4090. I have no performance issues to complain about.

If you haven't hand flown in true rough air, KCOS will make you a believer. I had a FA hit the ceiling and smash back down during a descent into KCOS. She had to go to the hospital after landing for a sprained ankle. This happened after delaying for 2 hours due to severe low level windshear at KCOS.

This is so right! I live right near Co. Springs and KCOS is my home airport when traveling. Every time I fly into KCOS I am concerned that my flight could get delayed for high winds, clouds or fog engulfing the airport and dropping visibility super low, or just plain crazy winter weather. Oh, and let's not forget the fire season and potential for smoke. It's always an adventure flying in and out of KCOS, that is for sure 😁

  11. I have been using GSX for MSFS since it's release, and it has been getting better and better with each update. And, for the most part is has worked well for me without issue. I have had times where Couatl stops working, and almost every time that has happened I had paused my flight for more then say 10 minutes. But, simply restarting it solved that. Other than that, works great for me. No problems with stutters, or smoothness problems. I have the GSX settings tweaked for my system, and after spending some time doing that, it has been hands off and problem free otherwise. I very much enjoy using it, and anytime I don't use it on a given flight, I miss it.
