  1. Release of the 3rd party map addon does beg the question as to whether FSW will, in a future iteration, include a basic map with navaid data etc. accessible in flight such as found in FSX:SE or the more sophisticated one in XP11 or whether it will be necessary to buy DLC to add this functionality.

    For example, XP11 was not a supported platform until PMDG decided to support it.

    Unless I've missed something PMDG aren't currently supporting XP11 and haven't announced any intention to do so.  The only PMDG X-Plane product, the DC6, is for XP10 and has issues when used in XP11.

  3. If anyone from DTG is reading this then the survey seems to be broken in that you can't leave a box unticked in this section which the wording suggests you ought to able to:

    5. Which in-sim qualifications have you obtained in FSW? (Tick all that apply)

    Light Aircraft Pilot's License (LAPL)

    Private Pilot's License (PPL)

    Multi-Engine Training Certificate

    I have not completed any of the qualifications in Flight Sim World (Please tell us why)

    and just fill in the explanation in the space provided under the last line.  If you try that then clicking Next at the bottom of the page sends you back to section 5 with this message: This question requires an answer.

    If you fix it then I'll complete it!

  4. I think someone has already posted to say that the Xtreme versions of the UK2000 airports aren't compatible with FSW, this seems to be further evidence of that.

    FWIW I get a crash if I click on Southampton (EGHI) in the Flight Planner with the non-Xtreme UK2000 version of that airport in my FSW scenery.cfg, so tread carefully!

    Ask a train sim user how happy they are with the base sim cost after the thousands in DLC they shoved down people's throats

    Shoved down people's throats?  Did you think that nonsense up by yourself or are you just parroting what you've read elsewhere?  Sure DTG make most of their money by selling DLC but there's absolutely no compulsion to buy it.

    ...and can you run me through how you put that into your scenery.cfg ?  I mean, the system pathways...to those folders...

    I've got my copy of FSW installed on drive L: so for example where you had:

    [Area.127]
    Title=@IDS_AREA127_PWS_Vol_1
    Local=Addon Scenery\PWS_Vol_1
    Layer=127
    Active=TRUE
    Required=FALSE

    I'd try:

    [Area.127]
    Title=@IDS_AREA127_PWS_Vol_1
    Local=L:\Steam\steamapps\common\FSW\Addon Scenery\PWS_Vol_1
    Layer=127
    Active=TRUE
    Required=FALSE

    Obviously you'll need to change the part before steamapps\common\FSW\Addon Scenery\PWS_Vol_1 to reflect where you've got FSW installed.

    So its going to be the go to simulator in 2017???? Only 4 1/2 months left left in 2017 and its absolute junk! With the number of people investing in P3Dv4 I think DTG and FSW is about a year or more too late!

    It will be interesting to see how the numbers balance out when FSW out of early access and LM start to enforce the terms of their EULA and P3D suddenly costs a lot more people $200 rather than the $60 they're paying now.

    Not sure the @IDS_AREA numbering is significant.  The areas I've added don't have a number in that line nor do some of the default entries

    Further experimentation shows that @IDS_AREA isn't required in the Title= line, the scenery seems to load and show without it.  May be a good idea to keep using it though as there may be a use for it that I'm not aware of in the current version or in the future.

    There is another cfg file in hidden AppData or SteamAppData directory. I think they have to match.

    As far as my experiments go the scenery.cfg file that is used by the program is in "C:\ProgramData\Dovetail Games\FSW".  The other two, one in "C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\Dovetail Games\FSW" and the other in "......\Steam\steamapps\common\FSW" seem to be the original default files and don't need to be edited.

    Certainly, first of all you need to copy your FSX UK2000 folder into your FSW main folder......

    You don't need to copy the scenery into the FSW folder, you can point to it in the scenery.cfg file just as you can with FSX.  In the example above

    [Area.127]
    Title=@IDS_AREA122_UK2000_Common_library
    Local=L:\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\UK2000 scenery\UK2000 Common Library
    Layer=127
    Active=TRUE
    Required=FALSE

    will work and save space by avoiding the need to copy the scenery.

    ...... P3D has everything FSX ever had, plus it's much further advanced.

    It's also many times more expensive than FSX:SE unless you qualify for the Academic license or are prepared to cheat.  Perhaps when LM start enforcing their licensing conditions the balance will tilt more in favour of the other 64-bit sims out there.
