A Minority Report
If you would ask people in 1995 if they would pay for MP3 in a internet-market store (like Itunes) the answer would probably be "I don't know....i don't think so, i'll stick with CD's.If you would ask people in 2003 if the would pay for applications on your mobile phone (like a game) then people would probably say: I don't know....i play games or apps on my computer. All changes are difficult, only time will tell but I think we have to hope that FLIGHT will become a succes and that people are interested in learning more about flying. After all, we simmers all started on Meigs Field in a cesna....

A Minority Report
I agree with the Stephen / OP.Most of us don't have the beta. All of us don't know what strategy MS really has with flight. The thing we do know is that FLIGHT is trying to address more people than only simmers. Because of all the previous versions we - as simmers - don't like the idea. But who is telling us that FLIGHT won't have simming capabilities with its final release (or few months after it in the FLIGHT-market)? None of us really knows. And all who is telling that FLIGHT will be dead without third party developers is forgetting a big economic rule: if FLIGHT is a succes (also because at release it is more marketed as "easy" to fly) a lot of developers will jump in. Does anyone remember when PMDG came into play or ORBX? My point is that also third party developers evolved into the Flight Simulator world. There will always be third party developers once money can be made. Maybe not the developers who are in the sim world now (and believe me, i wish that PMDG and ORBX join in for FLIGHT but I respect it when they don't) but other developers will join in.And if MS will earn from add-ons in the marketplace, than maybe this is a obligation for them to make the sim better (and not with a lousy "Acceleration pack" but really developing the sim to a higher and better level). If the have constant revenues of FLIGHT, maybe this will have a positive effect for us because the sim is getting better. And if the sim gets better, more people buy FLIGHT, the more people buy from marketplace, the more developers join in, the more add-ons are sold through the market-place, the more revenues for FLIGHT / MS, the more updates / upgrading of the sim, the more people buy FLIGHT, the more people buy from marketplace, the more developers join in, the more....etc.So together with the OP I think we all have to wait and see which direction this FLIGHT is going.Just my 2 cents....

small stutters in Virtual cockpit every 3 second
First: PMDG 737 NGX is the best product for FSX!The only thing I experience now is that there are is a small stutter every 3 seconds when in cockpitview. In outside view or wingview it is all very smooth and steady 30 fps. Also when I have full screen view (via keyboard "W" in 2d view) there is no stutter.I therefore think the stutter has something to do with the virtual cockpit view and the systems. I don't have this problem in PMDG 747 or MD11 or in default aircraft.I really tweaked my system for stutterfree experience in FSX so a stutter every 3 second in VC is very anoying. Can someone please explain if there is any process that is causing this? Or a possible setup to fix this? Thanks,Paul Acdos

Possible solution for microstutters?
Maybe this upcoming driver update will make microstutters in fsx belong to the past?http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=201570&view=findpost&p=1289441 Nvidia is apparently working on a FPS limiter in their new drivers. This could be of much importance to small microstutters in FSX (choppy / jerky movements in a milisecond) because when the fps is limited to exactly 30 fps (and not 29 or 31 as in fps_limiter or antilag) the GPU is more in sync with the refreshrate of the moniter, hence less microstutters. Let's hope the driver update will be released soon!

gpu usage
There are microstutters in every situation: with 8xAA / 8S / 16 S. I;ve tried them all but the GPU usage never gets aboven 40 %.
-
GPU usage
My gpu usage in fsx is at most 30% and an average of 20% ( i checked it in msi afterburner.) I have a msi 570gtx with 1.5gb mem. Is this normal? And how can I let fsx use more of my gpu? My CPU is a Sandy bridge 2600k.When i fly i have microstutters when in windowseat view. I think it is gpu related.

What is Prepar3D?
For all those who have prepar3d: how is the performance? I have a sandy bridge 2600k @ 4.5ghz but still have those small microstutters when I look at autogen. It is not a constant fluent movement. Is prepar3d supersmooth or still has its microstutters?

Vibrating/blurring textures
I understand your point. Your "problem" is inherent of setting the FPS to 30 fps. With this setting FSX is stable with no stutters or microstutters...BUT: 30 fps is not enough for your eyes (or brains) to accept this as fluent. There is a easy comparison for this: Make a flight with the default 737 on KSEA and take off the runway. First use internal FPS limited to 30 fps. You see the shocking effect of the ground textures (as if you were drunk). Now put the internal FPS to 60 FPS and all is fluent with no stutters (if your Monitor refresh rate is 60 hz). I looked into this matter and found out that it depends on how you look at the sim. Some people find fluently sim experience at 24 fps. Some at 30 fps and others only at 60 fps. If the FPS are limited to your monitor refreshrate, all is super smooth. Below that, it is different. Some people say: movies are shot in 24 fps so everything with a fps of above 24 is sufficient for our brains. This is not true as you will experience with setting fps to 60 (the same as monitor refreshrate). My point is: you can see a big difference between 24 fps / 30 fps and 60 fps. Above 60 I don''t see the diference anymore. My advice to you is: set your monitor refresh rate to 60hz and put your fsx internal fps limiter to 60 fps. If you fly default planes or you fly in no heavy sceneries, this will be ok. If you fly add-on planes and heavy add-on scenery, put the fps limiter to 30 fps. With 30 fps you will experience some "vibrating" textures but this is just the way it is. Accept that you can't have a sim working at 60 fps at all times and just enjoy the 30 fps and fly away....

External Frame Limiters still create microstutters
True: I agree with you. But a lot of people are saying the external fps limiters are wonderful and create a smooth flight. But when I use them the fps are fluctuating very much and cause microstutters. If others use the exteral fps limiters, do they experience wide jumping of the frame rates or are there solid fps @ 30? If so, I must be doing something wrong here..... The internal fps is cutting my fps so I really want to use the external fps limiter.

External Frame Limiters still create microstutters
When I use the external FPS limiters (FPS Limiter 0,2, Antilag and DXtory) the fps are still fluctuating very much. I.E. when I set fps to 30 I see the frames jumping from 28 to 30 to 32, back to 28 again etc. This is causing microstutters on my system. Everytime the fps go to 28 or 32 there is a microstutter. Even when I set all settings to sparse or minimum there are still microstutters because of this. I can use the internal limiter but then my overall fps are lower than using unlimited fps and an external fps limiter. Is there a simple reason why my FPS are fluctuating this much? Why can't it be a solid 30 fps all the time?

Sandy Bridge but not smooth flight: only @ 60 fps
I will try this but I don't know if this is really the cure against microstutters. I have very low latency memory and a SSD but still see microstutters in fullscreen. What I do know is that with my system windowed mode works best, as I found out yesterday. When I set FPS limited to 30 in fsx and fly in windowed mode I have absolutely no, zero, nada, niente microstutters. I'm almost with my noose on the monitor but have no microstutters whatsoever. I think this is due to the buffering in windowed mode. But on the otherhand, also with Vsync disabled I have supersmooth flights with my system. So please: Sandy Bridge owners (or similar setups) who experience microstutters: try windowed mode! This is how I test microstutters: Use a default boeing 737 on KSEA and use wingview so that you look at the terminal buildings when you take-off. When there are microstutters, you will see them when you pass the terminalbuildings with high speed. My system:SB 2600K @ 4.58 GB 1600mhz ddr3 ram (7-8-7-2T)120 OCZ Vertex 3 SSDNvidia gtx570.

-> To those who have FPS issues.
I am experiencing the possitive loading effect of the PMDG 747 on the NGX fps too. I have a SB 2600k, 8gb 1600 mhz and 120 GB SSD and have increase of 10 fps when I first load the PMDG 747. I can reproduce it every time i use the NGX.

Sandy Bridge but not smooth flight: only @ 60 fps
At least I am not alone....:) Can it be because some people see microstutters and others don't? I read a lot of topics about this microstutter thing on the web and what I can see is that some people see it (and when they do they go nuts) and others don't see it, although it is there. It also depends on what kind of aircraft you are flying i guess: 200 knots take off in a F16 and fly low over a lot of autogen and I see the microstutters more clearly than when flying a cesna over autogen with 60 knots..... But you mentioned that you come from an older system: did you experience microstutters on that system as well? That would prove that it is not directly hardware / software related but just happens when the FPS are below the refresh rate of your monitor. I would like to ask everybody who doesn;t experience microstutter to check the refreshrate of their monitor and set the frame limiter (internal or external) to the number of the refresh rate. Do the movements in FSX are more fluently when you fly over heavy autogen (I.E. take-off from KSEA and look right down from wing-view) in a default 737).
