  1. I totally agree with you on 6gb being the maximum available. Fluidity is definitely a perception, how can I explain that it no longer crashes? I even started a new thread under MOBOs, RAM and Hardware about this issue. Some folks are stating that 12gb has solved their problems. This was a last ditch effort after a very frustrating month. I don't know about the overclcok, I will investigate that afte some time, but I can tell you that I ran memtest86 on each individual RAM and no problems. Disabled startup programs, problem contined. Reinsstalled FSX et al and problem continued. Installed 6gb of Corsair Dominator DDR3 RAM and voila no more crashes.
  2. Hello all. Looking for an answer to a question that no one seems to be in agreement on. Previously my system experenced CTDs, BSOD, grey screens and other errors on moderate (default) settings for FSX, keep in mind my system is high-end. The only components that are not top of the line are RAM, and my 5870. I checked everywhere for fixes. The following is briefly what I have had to do:1. Reinstalled FSX Acceleration2. memtest 86 all RAM individually3. UIatomationcre.dll removal4. uninstalled all addons5. Reset all of my settings for FSX to default6. Deleted fsx.cfg7. Reduced settings on REX 2.0, Ran FSX with no REX8. Fixed registry errors with CC cleaner The only thing I did not do was change my overclock on my system. These were all a result of REX 2.0 not playing nice with my high end system. So at 8:50 p.m. yesterday I went to my local Micro Center and purchased an additional 6GB of a DD3 Corsair Dominator 2000 CL8 (yes I realize its not Mushkin but its what was available in a pinch!). I installed it and voila, no more performance issues. I read on the forums that FSX can only address 4gb or RAM and that W7 will play nice with 6gb but because W7 reserves so much memory for normal processes I believe it starves FSX. My results so far. I flew from YSSY-VTSP and no problems. NO BSODs, no grey screens, no CTDs. Everything is fluid. According to threads I have read, everyone with serious computer knowledge is saying that 12gb can make no difference in your system. Heck even the computer tech at Micro Center said the same thing. I am just making the case that if you have multiple addons, I have UTX, GEX, REX, PMDG 744,MD-11, FS2crew, FTX Australia and some others that I have probably forgotten your system is eating memory. Sorry for the long post, but here is my fundamental question: Why does 12GB solve my problems, when 6GB should be plenty? I even looked at some posts in AVSIM where users actually stated that 12gb SOLVED all of their issues and others disagreed stating it was impossible...Does anyone know the answer to this question. A quick search of the web finds many users like me finding that 12gb fixes their problems in FSX and W7.
  3. Tonight I became fed up and visited my local Micro Center and purchased an additional 6GB of Corsair Dominator DD3 RAM. Since I had already invested in 6GB of this product prior, I could not purchase in good conscience another 6GB of MUshkin redline and trash my existing memory. So, I have added the memory, and despite what everyone has said, I am having a smoother, faster FSX experience. I kept my overclock(s) the same. Hopefully this solves my blue screens and other memory issues. If so, I can provide a better report once I am stable on my long haul flights. IMHO opinion if you have a number of add ons, I think you will have to invest in serious RAM to support the 980x...
  4. My newest error message. Very frustrating. Whats odd is that there is no faulting module. 5. I am still hunting bugs with my system. No tweaks as of yet. I removed the UIautomation.dll and so far no more menu crashes. I was getting BSOD, however I reduced my traffic settings and water settings. Whenever I used REX 2.0 I got frequent BSOD. I am running a test 12 hour flight (without REX 2.) and so far so good. Four questions for 980x users:1. I am curious if any other 980x users are having any problems with REX 2.0? I run at full resolution 4096 clouds... 2. Do you find that unlocked or locked FPS seem better. Currently I have mine locked at 20 and am stable so far. 3. Would changing my Affinity Mask make use of my unused cores? 4. Why do the Microsoft engineers claim that oc is an issue? I have read some boards that state oc has several disadvantages in multicore?
  6. I am experiencing the same issues. However the UIautomation.dll fix is just fix to a few of our problems. Its interesting that no one has mentioned if they are using DX10 preview. Could this be the issue? I am flying a long distance demo flight to see if I have any problems under DX9. I can tell you the problem happens over water, and at high altitude long distance flights. I received a CTD after requesting an altitude change after 10 hrs of a 12 hour flight. It seems like some error continues to build up until the sim crashes. I am still investigating how to read the BSOD event viewer. I really think that will provide an answer. Sorry for repeating the same things as other posts, but I just wanted to say you are not alone!
  7. I installed the UIAutomationCore.dll. However on my next flight I received the following error about 30 min into the flight around FL 340 above KSFO. Problem signature: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033Additional information about the problem: BCCode: 50 BCP1: FFFFF8800568508E BCP2: 0000000000000008 BCP3: FFFFF8800568508E BCP4: 0000000000000001 OS Version: 6_1_7600 Service Pack: 0_0 Product: 768_1Files that help describe the problem: C:\Windows\Minidump\061910-12776-01.dmp C:\Users\Joseph\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-22479-0.sysdata.xmlI even updated DX10 in desperation. Is this a known problem with W7? I bought the system overclocked, and I don't really want to drop the clock speed until I have eliminated everything else. All hardware has been checked, and double checked. My system is 2 mos old. Is anyone else have unresolved Blue Screen problems?Help please...
  8. My system is stable, however I still have not worked out problems with my 5870. I am thinking that my 5870 overheats, causing black squares under heavy load. I think the 980x is throwing too much at it. i will be interested when the next generation 480gtx comes out. Hopefully its cooler. Noise level is ok I have 7 fans, I think the biggest noise is the pump for the liquid cooling. If I had to re-do my build I think I may have chosen a 470 or 480gtx...
  9. Does anyone know what this means. I was on a very long flight from KSFO-RCTP (10+ hours). I was trying to determine the longest range of my PMDG 747 and I got this error 800NM from RCTP. Problem signature: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033Additional information about the problem: BCCode: d1 BCP1: FFFFF80003BA6F4A BCP2: 0000000000000002 BCP3: 0000000000000008 BCP4: FFFFF80003BA6F4A OS Version: 6_1_7600 Service Pack: 0_0 Product: 768_1Files that help describe the problem: C:\Windows\Minidump\061410-12448-01.dmp C:\Users\Joseph\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-21777-0.sysdata.xmlRead our privacy statement online: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=104...mp;clcid=0x0409If the online privacy statement is not available, please read our privacy statement offline: C:\Windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txt
  10. You are correct sir! 980x 4.5oc watercooled and no change in frames with ht on or off.Joseph Blair
  11. Hi everyone. I'm a long time lurker on this forum. I have the same performance as JHodge. Currently running the following:980x oc 4.5 ghz (water cooled) completely stable!assus extreme Mobo6gb of DDR 3@2000mhzHIS 5870 oc factory with additional oc.40gb ssd 2x 300gb velociraptors800d obsidian caseFrames locked at 30. No microstutters or lag!Completely fluid with pmdg 747. I have not added all of my scenery yet as the system was just finished today. I just wanted to state that without any tweaks so far so great. The 5870 is a better choice imho because of the heat issues with the 480gtx. In addition I think the velociraptors are fine as primary hdd. The ssd is an improvement but not that great of one for the money/performance factor.I beleive FSX just lost. Hopefully more people like us will come forward and report their results.Joseph Blair
