I was really surprised at the hit I took on YMML. I love orbx for GA. Heavies not so much. I thought I had the latest/ greatest but still not enough for Orbx airports.Unless you have a 2600k, I can guarantee that you will not be flying pmdg heavies into orbx airports with more than 20 fps (w/maximum settings).Well maybe higher with a bare bones fsx installation.

Listen to The ATIS frequency for that airport. It should come up about 60-100nm out. Use ATC for FSX. It's pretty accurate.Well up to a point, but that's another post altogether.

I love Orbx! See my sig, however for heavies I see a precipitous drop in weather using 2048 REX textures. For example in Orbx YMML I get between 20-28 fps at Vr. I am always looking for eye candy with minimal hit to fps.From the previous posts it seems that Fly Tampa and FS Dreamteam are much more friendly than Orbx. Please advise if I am incorrect.

Look for a video tutorial for the default 737. I would also strongly suggest the learning center tutorial: Transitioning to jets to understand proper rotation techniques. Complex aircraft can be difficult at first, that's why you should start low to high. Also you should fully understand V speeds.Good luck!

I have searched for recent reviews on the new versions of their scenery- with no luck.Is Fly Tampa easy on fps?I fly heavies so it's important to have relatively good performance.Is it comparable to orbx? Honestly I just want very good scenery that won't degrade my current performance. I've seen videos of their stuff and want to buy all of it but need some honest feedback on their performance/scenery.

I have the Asus P6X58D- premium mobo. I was unable to get a stable overclock with the 5870 even with a mild overclock. Checked everything before I replaced it, including RAM, and other hardware. Next to last step was installing W7, and after that didn't work I found out it was the 5870. I am aware that all PCs are different, but wanted to see some settings from other users as I do not want to fry my $1k processor. I have looked at a few different sites but wanted to see what everyone here was doing before I started my last tweak of my system. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all, about 3 months ago I swapped my HIS 5870 out for an EVGA GTX480, and I dropped my overclock to 4.0Ghz. I didn't save my settings as I had to do a fresh W7 install. Does anyone have any really stable 4.2-4.5 overclock settings that I can use? I have looked around but wanted to gather most of the resources in one place for future reference. Thanks in advance. I apologize for not updating this earlier. I have switchedMy 5870 for a gtx480 and no more bsods. I can report over three months of error free flying. Could it be the 5870 is a bottleneck with bp=0 settings?

Are we still talking about clouds?

Which textures load? It can't be the 4096 every time...

Maybe run three tests. 1. GA no addons. Use this as your base testing ground.2. GA with scenery addons.3. Complex add-on aircraft scenery addons, textures in high density airports.All three would keep us chirping away until pmdg releases the NGX.

It's the evga gtx480. I'm rarely at home when I read the forums so when I get a moment I'll update my profile.Not trying to hijack. I just noted that flying through weather is much more pleasurable!

As a former owner of the 5870, and now the gtx480 I can tell you there is a big difference between the two cards. The gtx480 eats Rex 2.0 for breakfast. I don't know about the shaded mod but weather is not an issue with the newest cards and nvidia. I can report no more stutters, only fluid fps. I have flown in cyclones, hurricanes, thunderstorms and no problems. This is with complex addons in dense scenery over busy airports. This includes FTX orbx Australia!Get the 480 gtx! I say this because I had a helluva time getting the 5870 to work as advertised. I don't mind tweaks but the card should be able to handle the latest stuff without tweaking.

Anyone notice any improvement in fsx? Most of the comments are solid, but nothing regarding FSX.

Yeah I get 45c on air with the gtx480. That's on approach in heavy rex2 weather and big airports like Narita. New driver is good but seems like I lost something with ground clarity. Overall very happy with 260.xx

See my setup below. Works like a peach after I purchased the gtx480

FPS is the only upside to dx10. Crashes, bsods, stutters, and this is with lower settings. I have the latest and greatest and dx10 never works. I can run a 14 hr flight in dx9 mode without crashes, and 6 hrs in dx 10 max (with crashes et al). Dx9 is what fsx was rendered in. Dx10 simply is not stable enough for prime time!I wish dx10 worked, it just doesn't for me on long hauls with complex aircraft. I suspect others have experienced the same thing.The author of that article recommends dx9. Sorry, it's not building the case for a positive experience with dx10.I wish I had someone tell me to ditch dx10. It would have saved valuable time...

Possibly a corrupt logbook? You can find instructions on how to fix.

DX10 is hit and miss. I think that's why Bojote and Nickn tune with DX9. Using preview causes lots of issues that normally are not present in 9. If you are looking for better performance tune your system. If you are looking for better textures buy Rex2 or another addon.My $.02

I have had the gtx480 for 3 weeks. It's quiet, stable, and handles anything you throw at it. My former 5870 was not so stable for some unknown reason.Get the latest and greatest, you won't be disappointed.

Is it just me, or do the colors look slightly better?
