  1. Well given that there is no Landclass in the FTX product right now the town of Caselle being at the end is purely down to the default landclass, FTXG is simply offering a different texture/autogen set to display in the same 1.2km Landclass square.
  2. I'd say imho any product that comes out with no uninstaller but a promise to add one later is unfinished and not ready for release. But then that's also almost certainly part of the thinking behind the OpenLC packs, allowing them to release the textures now and then bits and pieces of the world as and when they finish them simply because trying to finish a project as large as this in one go would easily take over a year (probably two) even with the development team they have on hand. As rsperge said if the base textures were only $50 I might be tempted but for $100 I'm not. Wait a year or two for all the OpenLC packs to come out and you'll probably be able to buy a finally completed product for that initial $100 and it would be reasonable. But that's just the two cents of a poor pig farmer, your mileage financial and otherwise will vary.
  3. Surprised they didn't do anything about the water textures since this is a texture update, that alone is underwhelming given how most of the Earth's surface is water.
  4. Any link to the YouTube video?
  5. No it's not but sadly for people like myself that is still a lot of money, a days wages in my line of work (farming), and that's before tax lol. Right now a new computer is on my mind which with my quarterly bonus around the corner may be doable but even that is going to be cheap compared to what I know most people here invest in their machines.
  6. Well that's cheaper than originally mentioned, I think I've seen three prices listed now over its development, $300+, $195 and now $99. I'm guessing they realised that most people simply can't afford triple digit price tags, sadly I can't even justify $99 right now though, least of all that doesn't include the improved landclass which might sound cheap at ~$15 an area but how many areas are they going to split things up in to?! Oh and that doesn't include the other packs like airports, etc. they are making as part of it. So I guess that $300+ price tag is still there, just spread out and hidden across the entire package. For that kind of money I'd be more interested in P3D which looks good out of the box and still have some money left over for some of Carenado's new birds. Nope, you've still got to buy multiple regions if you want to get all the landclass which is what will probably make the biggest difference to the sim since the default landclass quite bluntly sucks compared to what we find in the real world out our windows. As a base this seems more like REX.
  7. Looks great, just wish I could afford a copy to test compatibility with my in-progress addons for Canada and .....
  8. The only thread in a forum that should ever be deleted are those that are criminal, nefarious, spam, etc. Basically all the crap of the world, other threads including those no longer valid such as those concerning the new file library should be locked. From reading previous staff posts it has already been made clear that in some way, shape or form, the new library will be coming back so those previous posts will be just as relevant if the issues raised are not fixed. Those that forget their history are doomed to repeat it, just because there is no* chance of the holocaust happening again does that mean we should erase it from our history books? An extreme example I know but a valid comparison. I wish you luck in getting the new library going, I know the work involved but please don't allow yourself to forget the work that we developers put in to our files which actually give you a library in the first place! You have already alienated many authors Tom in the last couple of days who provide a large majority of your most popular files, it is those files which bring your audience who in turn pay for your website through the ads, donations and other revenue streams. No files>no library>no users>no fees>no AVSIM. * - 99.9% unlikely to happen, sadly never say never
  9. Wish there was a like button next to your post lol
  10. Good stuff, anytime you get an error reporting a missing file that is actually part of the AVSIM library makes you worried. Still wonder who and why they hacked it long ago in the first place.
  11. Guys your library is completely down. Here is the error recieved Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: [2002] No such file or directory (trying to connect via unix:///var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock) in /opt/webdocs/library/common.php on line 178Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: No such file or directory in /opt/webdocs/library/common.php on line 178Something broke...Regrettably, a database error has occurred. We won't be able to do what you've asked right now. Please contact the Library Staff, telling them exactly what you did to cause this error. Click here to go back Praying that something just broke at your end and this isn't another hack!
  12. Ok well version 1.1 is live. This update more than doubles my original work adding 44 aircraft making nearly 1000 flights each week to over 300 airports! Download it from my website here - http://realbigtree.com/
  13. Just a quick update, my website is currently down as it appears the host I chose couldn't cope with the visitors my site had recieved so I have just set up a new host tonight which won't have any problems. Please allow a couple of days for me to get everything back up again but it'll be coming along with some more plans including brand new Air Baltic plans!
  14. You can only make plans that are based on a single week but you could make a plan with say a flight on Monday, another on Wednesday and a final on Friday for example as long as the starting location is the ending destination (EGKK-EGLL-EGPK-EGKK for example) you can pretty much do what you want as long as it doesn't take more than a week to do. What you want to do is easily achievable but it'll just be on a week basis rather than a full month.
  15. aig_cargojet_summer_2011.zip, aig_summer_2008_kelownaflightcraft.zip and morningstar_air_express_su_09.zip should have those aircraft airborne. All on AVSIM.
  16. I have just released the first version of my new Cessna 510 Citation Mustang plans for the fabulous maxflight-AI model. These flightplans are based upon data collected from Flightaware.com and in 75% of cases flights are performed at the real time on the real day of the week that they actually happened. The remaining flights are real but hours may have been moved forwards or back and/or the day operated on may be different simply to enable the data to fit into the limited 1 week scope of the flightsim AI engine. You can find and download the pack from my website at http://www.realbigtree.com along with all my other plans and repaints. If you have not already done so I recommend that you install the Ultimate GA pack of plans too - citation_mustang_package.zip on AVSIM.With the addition of my plans you can have all Canadian Mustangs airborne and a number of American mustangs too. This will be an ongoing work and will ultimately produce a package adding all Canadian and N registered Mustang's that can be tracked to your sim, somewhere around 200 aircraft! Keep your eyes peeled on my website for regular future updates and other aircraft packs to come out.
  17. I always wondered what the point of updating the database was though. Great EGKK now has a new landing frequency or a new SID deperature route (for example), sadly unless you have an updating AFCAD file for every airport affected by any changes then flying with the default ATC simply won't work correctly. It's also not a guaranteed factor flying online since you are then depending upon the VATSIM ATC to have the same AIRAC cycle with the same updates as you. I admire the fact that's possible to now fly with the most accurate real-world data but do we have the sim to keep up?
  18. Ah so in theory if I change the AFCAD and then just create a bgl file with an exclude in it to get rid of FSX's default flatten then I wouldn't need a flatten of my own as the mesh would be correct and the AFCAD would take care of the rest? Next question, how exactly do I exclude the default flatten, unless I'm missing something I can't even see a default flatten in SBuilderX???I've appended the correct file for this area 0603/cvx4931.bgl and I still can't see any default flattens, excludes or anything else? I've read the tutorial by Luis but that talks more about a complete rebuild than simply an update to an existing area and doesn't make everything very clear.
  19. Ok I've tried making a flatten and it worked but didn't do what I want. I purposefully made it larger than necessary so I could see it's affects and while it did flatten the terrain, it didn't flatten the platform the airport is sitting on. The new AFCAD I created using ADEX also has it's altitude set to 10m so that shouldn't be causing the problem, any ideas? I've attached images of my scenery, both with and without the flatten. Removing my own AFCAD makes no difference to the picture. With Flatten - http://farm5.static....737deaa_b_d.jpgWithout Flatten - http://farm5.static....253e89e_b_d.jpgBoth include my mesh which can clearly be seen to be lowering the terrain (as it should) and making Sao Tome look alot better in the process, I just need to get this airport down about 600ft!Edit - Here's the default scenery - http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4105/5060075028_2d9369cb4d_b_d.jpg
  20. Thanks, I just tried that in TMF and see what you mean about it's quirk regarding empty values. I'll take a look at SBuilderX, heard about it before, didn't think I'd need to start doing flattens and new airport AFCAD's as part of a mesh project, this could take me a long time to achieve my ultimate goals lol.If I could extract one last piece of knowledge from you (for now lol) I want to make use of the Canadian GeoBase CDED data to build a really accurate Canadian mesh. I know FSX Resample needs everything to be in WGS84 datum, considering I now know Microdem screws things up (fairly royally) it seems without so much of a hint I wonder what would be the best program to open, merge, convert datum and resave these files with? It needs to be free too. Is there also anything else I would need to do to the files? I've tried converting it before using Microdem and all you get is a complete load of garbage out of Resample even though in Microdem it looks fine.Thank you so much for all your help!
  21. Ok I took the default srtm tile and ran it through resample using your MinValidValue addition to the source section. It did flag up a warning - TIFFReadDirectory: Warning, Unknown field with tag 42113 (0xa481) encountered. - but compiled ok with a slightly smaller file. Checking it in the viewer showed no peaks (that I can see) however the ocean is pure white and has a value of 10 (which is odd as by default 3DEM gives the sea in this tile a value of -46) in the bar at the bottom of the screen. I can't run it through GlobalMapper first (as I lack $350 to pay for something I'm only starting out in). Not putting it through Microdem has now it seems cured one problem but created another lolJust checked it out in FSX too and this new file doesn't have the peaks but something is really screwed as the airport is now sitting on an platform. Either the original airport elevation is out or something has gone and upset the DEM nicely. Checking that in ADE confirms, real airport 10m above sea level, FSX default 159.72m! How the hell does MS screw that up so badly. Eek! To fix that I know it's not just a case of altering the airports elevation and making a new bgl file in ADE (an AFCAD) as I just tried that and that made things even worse looking, a floating runway and an platform still present! So how do I get this right. Thanks for helping me, this means alot as I want to be able to do this so badly and I'm learning all the time!
  22. Ok lets start with an example. SRTM V4.1 tile srtm_38_12 in GeoTiff format. Opened using Microdem and then Edit>DEM Holes>Missing data to sea level. That fixes the sea. File>Save DEM>GeoTIFF and saved as srtm_38_12.tif in the source directory ready for FSX Resample. Nothing else is needed as it's already in WGS84 format.INF file contents[source]Type = GeoTIFFLayer = ElevationSourceDir = "SourceData"SourceFile = "srtm_38_12.tif"[Destination]DestDir = "Output"DestBaseFileName = "srtm_38_12"DestFileType = BGLLOD = AutoUsing this INF file drag and drop onto Resample to get it started and I get a good 6MB sized BGL file at the end. Here's a link to it - http://realbigtree.co.cc/files/srtm_38_12.bglUsing TmfViewer you can visibly see the peaks, they are more like noise that appear every now and then. I know the source file is not the issue, the V4.1 files are "clean" and nothing in the source goes above 4024m. The height of Mount Cameroon is 4040m so this is a pretty good DEM considering it's a 90m resolution DEM! Could perhaps I change something or add something to the INF file? I've been leaving LOD at auto as it automatically includes all LOD's from 0 to in this case 9, built in "buffering" as I believe it's called.Everything else in the BGL's I've made looks superb, fantastic detail compared to the default FSX scenery so these peaks are really annoying! Hopefully you can help. :-)
  23. I've just started making some mesh scenery for FSX using the FSX Resample program from the SDK. This is compiling and working fine however many files which are perfectly normal DEM's (SRTM v4.1) with no peaks are somehow being miscompiled by Resample as once it's finished they have suddenly gained a number of spikes often 20000ft in height or pits of a similar depth. I don't know what's happening here, Resample should only be turning the DEM file into a BGL and not changing the DEM so why it's leaving these spikes in the finished BGL file I don't know but needless to say it's annoying. Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do to stop this?
