  1. I thought I would use the upcoming upgrade to v3 as an excuse to purchase additional storage. Currently: 1TB internal HD, about 2/3 full, for programs 1TB external HD for static files (backups, downloads, zips, etc.) Proposed: Add a 500 GB SSD for P3D-associated program files only; leave OS on internal HD That is, make a P3D folder on the new SSD, and load P3D and all associated files onto it. 1) I have followed some of the discussions regarding preferences, but as a practical matter, will I be complicating life by doing this. Will I end up changing bunches of permissions, or pointers? (I'm sure I could work through this, but would prefer not to ... it steals time from actually flying.) 2) Will I see any benefits in P3D, or will the OS living on the HD present bottlenecks that would prevent any real gains in speed within P3D. Thanks, all. Mark
  2. I didn't know whether to tack this onto the end of Falcon 164 post about not running at all, or start a new topic. I'm having the same problem, except with 2.3. I suspect it is MyTraffic related, but I'm not sure. ( I know ... I should have waited for the v2 installer.) It'll sound like a newbie question, even though I'm definitely not new ... (quite the contrary.) But I wanted to take advantage of the situation to do a complete uninstall and update to 2.4. So my question, what is meant by a complete uninstall and clean installation of 2.4? Do I have to uninstall all the ORBX scenery before proceeding? How about aircraft I have added? Etc, etc. Do I have to delete anything else (folders, files, etc.)? Or, can I just uninstall P3D 2.3 and install 2.4. Thanks for you help. Mark I suspect I should have told you I am working within Windows 8.1. Mark
  3. Am I missing a aircraft config update? Ever since P3D has come out, the range I get on the default Acclaim is 2 or 3 times what it should be. I consistently get ranges in the 2400 - 3600 nm range. Is there a tweak people are using to bring this down to the real world 1200 nm figure? I know I could just go into the aircraft cfg file and increase the fuel burn ... but I was wondering if there was some other solution, based on better overall flight modeling that I may have missed. Thanks, Mark
  4. I cannot offer any direct comparisons, but I have a new machine running 8.1, and have had no operating-system-caused problems. From my experience with FSX on Windows 7, I am always surprised when I mistakenly try something that would choke (and crash) FSX and 7, but P3D 2.2 and 8.1 just shrugs it off. Very smooth. The only possible OS related problem I have is the occasional, and seemingly random, disconnect of my CH yoke and CH pedals. Not sure if the is OS, driver, or P3D related, Mark
  5. And, does that imply that the AffinityMask adjustment IS still needed in v.2.1 (and probably v.2.2)?? Mark
  6. First, Thanks for all who have contributed ... a lot to digest (especially on a now-flattened budget.) To add to the fray: Window 8.1 apparently allows one to adjust partition sizes. My inclination is to put all the executables down in the same partition as the OS, and leave the upper partition for static-type files - downloads, zips, etc. I haven't tried to resize the partitions yet ... not quite sure I want to play with that right now. Mark
  7. simmerhead - Did you ever get a resolution to this problem? I'm having the exact behavior ... everything is plain vanilla P3D v2 ... no addons whatsoever. I often get CTD when trying to change parameters in flight ... But I ALWAYS get a CTD when trying to create a new flight plan from the ATC window. Thanks, Mark
  8. rparson99 - That makes sense to me. But let me ask the question with a slightly different perspective: Are there any negatives to installing it on its own partition? Such as: Will there be any performance penalty by having it on its own partition? Are there any added complexities in file handling, other than just pointing to the folder(s) residing in the "data" partition? Thanks, again. Mark
  9. I have just received my new computer, which will be primarily dedicated to running P3D. It came with Windows 8, and I have upgraded it to 8.1. I loaded P3D, and have made a few flights ... so far, so good. But I noticed upon checking usage of the 1 TB hard drive, that P3D loaded into the C: partition, where all the operating system resides. It is now 66% occupied (100 GB out of 150 GB.) Scanning the forum, I have seen several mention loading P3D into its own partition. My "Data" partition (D:) is empty ... 760 GB of free space. So my question, should I uninstall P3D and reinstall it into the empty partition? If I don't, will the C: partition dynamically expand if I start reaching the upper limits of its capacity? I'm a bit new to the whole partitioning concept ... I know what they are, but not how to best utilize them. Thanks for you help! Mark
  10. I've looked and looked, and don't see the nice set of (sometimes useful) flight notes that was included with FSX for each of the default aircraft. Am I missing something somewhere? And if they doesn't exist, where does one turn to learn some of the finer points of flying some of the P3D aircraft? Thanks! Mark
