  1. Steve: That is wonderful - a complete tutorial; thank you very much. I haven't been through it yet, but will a bit later. Thanks again David
  2. In fsx.exe, Properties-> Compatibility, in the Privileges Level box, I clicked on "Run this program as an administrator " which seems to have fixed the problem. However, for possible future reference (!) it is not (to me ) obvious how to use Permissions-> Security: the Permissions (Full Control, Modify, Read & execute etc) sometimes come up in boxes, sometimes shaded boxes and some time no boxes at all (with some checks grey, some black ) and all different from what comes up initially (which is usually black checks inside white boxes with black borders ) and whatever I do, "Apply" in bottom RHC is always grey and won't do anything. The General box has in Attributes Read only ! Thanks for all your help David
  3. FSX->Properties->Security looks just as yours does Anthony - both me and Administrators with full permissions. Run as Admin is no big deal and I, or more likely someone else, might have an inspiration as to the problem. Thanks for the help. Cheers On a previous post on the same subject (which somehow I managed to lose ) I mentioned that I was able to "fix" the problem using FSXRegistryFix, but again only for the current session. (I could find the path to FSX in HKEY_CURRENT_USER (via Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Games ), but not in ....LOCAL_MACHINE, even though FSX RegistryFix said it was there; after I put the path into LOCAL_MACHINE it worked, but only for that session ). Cheers David
  4. Thanks for the replies: 1. Anthony: Run as Admin worked - so simple (and obvious ), but only for that session; I have to Run as Admin every time I start FSX (but that's much easier than re-installing ). 2. Vulcan: I have FSX on a separate drive (SSD) and haveadded lots of Addon Scenery and Orbx Scenery with no previous probs, although I did add MegaScenery Earth for Mass and CT just before the problem occurred and neither would work - I have since removed them, but that didn't fix the prob. Thanks again Cheers
  5. Thanks Anthony so simple (and obvious ) - Run as Admin fixed it, but only for the current session. I have to Run as Admin every time I start FSX, but that's no prob - much easier than re-installing FSX. (I still wonder what causes the prob ) Thanks David
  6. I have been using FSX with Acceleration for about 3 years; about a week ago, I got the above error message. What causes it and how do I fix it ? I can fix it , but only temporarily, using FSXRegisry Fix (I can see the path in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Microsoft\Microsoft Games, but not in .....LOCAL_MACHINE, even though RegistryFix says it's there; when I put it there it works ,but only for that session ) TIA David
  7. I have been using FSX with Acceleration for several years and got the above error message a few weeks ago. What causes it and how do I fix it ? I have managed to fix it, but only temporarily, by using FSXRegistry Fix; it fixes it for that session, but after I shut down then later restart, the error comes back. (I AM logged on as Administrator ). TIA
  8. G'day CoolP Thanks for your help With your advice, I found the fsx.cfg file and, of course, it hadn't been changed, so I changed it to the tweaked one, which certainly helped frame rate. (no external fps limiter- fsx set to unlimited ), A couple more questions: accompanying the tweaks was their own suggested external frame limiter - should I use that ? At present, I'm using an Nvidia GT 430, which is doing (now ) a remarkable job, but I've just bought a XFX Radeon HD 7770, which I'm hoping should be even better - what external fps limiter should I use with that ? A minor problem : since installing the tweaked fsx.cfg, my GPS can't keep up with the track when I make even a slight ( ~30 deg ) and takes several minutes to catch up - any suggestions? Thanks again David
  9. G'day Jim, (I tried to "reply" to your reply, but that didn't seem to work, so here goes again ) Thanks for your reply. I have since, by accident, found both the tweaked fsx.cfg and the saved original back-up fsx.cfg file in my Downloads, but I don't recall downloading them; are they downloaded and installed automatically ? If for some reason I don't like the tweaked fsx.cfg file, how do I go back to the original ? I can't see it anywhere in the FSX root directory - where do I find it ? On a related subject; where do I instal the "external" frame limiter ? In the FSX root directory ? Any particular category ? Sorry to be so dumb, but I have to start somewhere ! Thanks again for your help. Cheers David
  10. (I have unhidden the files and folders to try to find the FSX.cfg file, but all I can find is the one you sent back to me after all the changes ) Cheers BuzzyB
  11. Where/how do I find the fsx.CFG File ? (I have received the tweaked file, but now need to replace the present one. ) TIA BuzzyB
  12. G'day BertI have just got to try your suggested mod.I am completely new to this kind of programming (my last programming was for FFT's in Fortran 70, with a brief excrsion into early C) and have struck a problem:I am following your suggestion to Bob on 18 Nov 2010, and copied the panel folder and called it pane.lxp (still in Simobjects>Airplanes>Carenado BONANZA F33>panel ).I then made the mods you suggested (in Notepad), but when I try to Save the mods, or copy them back into a file in "panel", I get the message "Access Denied !" and "you do not have permission....." " Contact your Administrator", but I AM the Administrator (at least for my computer ). Do I need to convert the Notepad files back into .cfg files? If so, how?My computer has i7- 875, Windows 7 64 bit; my FSX root directory is in Program Files (x86) > Microsoft Games .>Microsoft Flight Simulator X.....(There is also another "Program Files" Directory); I read the BONANZA Files with Notepad and still have a Notepad file called panel in "panel".Any suggestions would be appreciated.David
  13. Thanks a lot Bert; let you know how I go.CheersDavid
  14. I have just bought the Carenado Bonanza F33 (with SP3 ), but I'm not impressed with the GNS430GPS. I usually have my GPS on a separate monitor, so I don't need to try to fit it into the GNS panel slot (and might be able to retain the Nav1, Com1 tuning on the GNS430 !{although I would forgo them if that's what it takes to change the GPS}). How would I go about using the default Garmin GPS 500 from FSX in the Bonanza?TIADavid
