  1. Well, "my other jet is a PMDG",  to ripoff  err, pay homage to the well known bumper-sticker, so using the GTN was not my first choice for the 550, but the FMS add-on Carenado put out after the 550 was so crippled/horrible that it ruined the plane for me for a while, so I was hoping that perhaps there were enough improvements in that area alone to justify adding the Cj2 - guess I will continue to ponder the purchase for a while - thx...

  2. Per the topic,

Been flying the S550 with a Flight1 GTN750 integration (thx Bert), and actually find I have been enjoying it quite a bit, but I am curious if folks who now own both think the CJ2 is really worth getting as well - I know this will vary from person to person, so I understand it will depend on your individual perception of the additional "value"...

    ...but, what say you?

    Regards,

    Chris B - aka "Flapsdown"

  3. No, none of those use FSUIPC at all. You don't even need it installed.

    Pete

Funny thing, if I don't have FSUIPC installed (I have the freeware), every time I end a flight with my PMDG 737, FSX would crash -  with it installed, PMDG 737 flights exit smoothly with no errors. This has been the case for me through any number of total system rebuilds - suppose it could be a coincidence, but it's reliable as the sunrise

  4. No, I don't have any strange issues, I just know what I'm talking about.

Go to post number 8 in the following thread. Rob Newman from Orbx explains what the implication of hybrid mode is. Among other things he says "Setting FTX Central to GLOBAL WITH hybrid mode checked means you will see the PNW full region scenery with a few very small innacuracies... roof colors will be different (and not typical of the region), and some terrain effects will be different (things like how steep a cliff should be before becoming a rock face etc), again, not 100% typical of the PNW region."

    http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/101593-the-hybrid-question/

Don't pretend to be an expert if you are not.

I never claimed to be an expert, so don't start stuffing words into my mouth - I am perfectly willing to accept that our definitions of "unreasonable issues" is just going to be different, so if these vagaries in rendering really irritate you, well then they do, but I would be willing to bet that for 99.99% of folks, the basically set it and forget it nature of Hybrid mode more than meets their needs. I bet you are a blast at parties...

  5. Not true. Hybrid mode will give you a different appearance in the full FTX region with some objects missing compared to activating the region. And Hybrid mode will kill your VAS. Doesn't work if you fly complex aircraft add-ons. Unfortunately, it's not as easy as you think it is...

Sorry you are having strange issues, I am experiencing none of these problems, and use many complex aircraft - primarily the PMDG 737, but also the Majestic Dash 8, A2A offerings etc, etc, and my ORBX environment is very "loaded up" with lots of full fat regions, and with all the Global products installed running in "Hybrid" mode - FTX Central 2.0 has  been a great tool for keeping everything up to date as well  - not an ORBX sycophant by any stretch, but must give credit where it is due, their products have not posed any unreasonable issues for me - YMMV...

  6. Took the v2.5 $10 "test drive" as well and was not moved to move  - the biggest annoyance was the sound - lots of snaps, crackles and pop problems that searching the forums seemed to provide no concrete answer for - and while visually it is certainly very nice, it is not so staggeringly better than my current FSX rendering that it left me massively disappointed in comparison. I find the UI organization to be really annoying (purely a personal preference I'll grant you), and I don't like losing the use of my second screen for some 2D items- so in the end, with the new box I just built, FSX is running very, very well indeed for me in just about every aspect, and combined with having tons of things I don't want to currently buy twice (some at ridiculously inflated prices  due to the licensing), I will continue to hold off.

However, I can see the day coming when I will begin the transition, just not yet...

  7. I've had this airplane for a couple of years now and haven't flown 1 flight in it.

The throttles just won't work no matter what I do.

I have posted on there fourms and the response I get is, it's my hardware, and it's BS, I got the hotas warthog and it works perfect on all the thousands Of dollars worth of airplanes I got.

You have probably seen or heard and been through all this, but have you tried the separate configurator program that is installed with the plane? I had to make sure that under the "FADEC" section I had checked the  "Inverted Axis" check box, and in my case, the 2 throttle option.

  8. I have both sets of aircraft (737-600 thru 900, Airbus 318-321), and enjoy them both - from a software standpoint, the Airbus did require some futzing around to get the throttle controls to work, but other than that it was not a problem. Operationally, I am still a "Boeing" guy, so I love the PMDG stuff, but I do enjoy the differences in "thinking" between the two lines of aircraft - and yeah, the Airbus FMC requires you to think a bit "sideways" as it were - all good fun though...

Note: I should say that this is all on FSX for me - tried P3D, but am not convinced yet...

  9. it would be nice if they used the GTN750 panel insert that include the click spot for the pop-up

You might try clicking on the thin edge at the top of the GTN750's bezel - this is where the click-spot is in the 404 - of course the "Home" button shows the "D->" label, but hey, you can't have everything I guess. :P

Note: you click on the left side of the bezel as per normal to put the 750 back in the dash, go figure...

  10. Well, at least it is an offering which (like the Alabeo C404, that I do generally like), is back in the area of aircraft that they tend to do reasonably well (piston/steam-gauge), and which use to represent decent value for money back in the day, though the price tag of mid 30s to close to $40 US is pushing it - but it seems to be the "new normal" for them...

  11. Well, I didn't really have much left in the way of adjustment either Right or Left for these items, but cranking in (or out), that last 10% or so has indeed made a massive difference for my flying with the 250 - I haven't gone back and tried the 182 yet, but hopefully the results will be similar - there is apparently something in the A2A flight control modeling that is way more sensitive (pun intended), to these settings than all the other aircraft I have used (at least for my all Saitek setup) - but hey, this is great to know, so now I can go back to flying instead of "adapting" :P

  12.  I've been using setup pictured here for basically - ever. I had no idea we were supposed to change these sliders.

I just looked at RealAir's recommendations for the Duke Turbine and Legacy, they actually show the Sensitivities set with the sliders just right of the "y" in "Sensitivity", with Null Zones set to basically just under the "n" in  Null Zones, so it's a bit of a grab bag depending on developer it seems...

Added shot of RA settings recommendation:

    controls.jpg

I currently don't use this exactly, I am way more to the right on the Sensitivities and with almost no Null Zones - but I will now push the "S" to full right and "N" to full left and see if anything gets better...

  13. There is yet another internal feature, described very well in the FSUIPC Manual, that works as a filter, independent of these sliders, and can be "turned off" in FSX.CFG, but I do not recall exactly where now :-/

I believe this may be what you are referring to:  stick_sensitivity_mode=0 in the "Controls" section

This always had very poor results for me, but YMMV...

  14. To be honest, I am never really quite sure what to make of A2A aircraft, as I always find things about the flight models that seem intuitively wrong - and this business with low speed control sensitivity, porpoising and floating on landings are a prime examples, and why the 172 has moved on elsewhere, the 182 gets flown only occasionally, and initially the 250 frustrated the crap out of me.

I have adapted to both the 182 and now the 250 on landing by having to end the approaches at as low an airspeed as possible, which of course requires a more nose up attitude that basically entirely substitutes for doing any kind of flare at all - so in a sense, I am just flying right down on to the runway - this results in very nice, almost perfect "3-point" touch downs which eliminates all the aforementioned oddities, but its a very, very delicate balance, and in its own way feels just as "wrong", as it seems like I am always just having to learn to land the "A2A way", as opposed to what the flight physics for a particular plane would seem to dictate...

...then again, it is equally as possible that my flying and/or control setup just plain stink when used in conjunction with A2A aircraft :P

  15. I just started flying in real life in a Schweizer 2-33 and 55 MPH feels really fast to me right now!

Nice! That is the plane I got my glider pilot license in back at the dawn of time - forgiving and predictable - move to the 1-26 if you are able to solo or have your ticket - not exactly a speed demon, but a great step up - feels graceful and lite compared to the 2-33, but it's nearly the same plane really...

Once you are comfortable there, move to a Blanik L-13 if you can find one, that was the last thing I flew before I had to give it all up - great, great fun that one..

  16.

Anyone think the flight physics are a little off? I have a case of pogo nose with moderate winds

Seeing this myself - the nose likes to "hunt around" in any but the calmest conditions, but perhaps that's just the weather my ASN is pumping out today.

At least there is no drop-throttle oversteer when I taxi too fast and have to get off the power  :P
