Hello guys! Today i was trying to perform the LOC/DME-E approach at KASE(Aspen). I'm wondering how you set up an approach like this? There are no STAR's to chose between. What i did was just add the 5 waypoints, JARGU, KICER, FIMSO, DOYPE and CEYAG into the FMC route together with the altitude restrictions(DIRECT-JARGU --- / 13400A | DIRECT-KICER --- / 12900A, etc). Also at the last waypoint(CEYAG) I set a speed restrction which was my vref speed. I did actually completely fail the approach because i set an altitude restriction at CEYAG to 10000ft, so i ended up way to high above the airfield. But i think i could have been able to do it if i just didnt put in any alt restrictions at this waypoint. I would have to descend 3905ft within 5.7nm, which sounds doable :D This is the first time ive done an approach that hasn't been an ILS approach, so i really had no idea on how to go about. Is the way i did it allright, or is there a completely different way of doing it? The chart i was using can be found here http://airportnavfinder.com/charts/KASE/ Thanks for your time!

Thanks for your responses. I downloaded the file and after a few attempts at registring the file i got it working. However, to actually get it working i had to leave out the " /U " in "regsvr /u msstdfmt.dll". Until i did that, i was still getting the error when trying to load a flightplan. Any idea why it worked when i left out the /u?

Hello guys. When trying to load a flightplan i get the 73 error. I read the sticky in this forum about how to solve this problem but i cant find where to get the "msstdfmt.dll" file from. There are only one link provided in the sticky thread and that link tells me the site does no longer exist. So does anyone know where i can get this file from? Thanks for your time!

Hello guys! I have been a proud owner of the ngx since a couple of weeks after release. I have been using and enjoying this plane for months! However i've had a brake now for a couple of months and made my comeback to flightsim today. I have been trying to sort out all of the addons that i used with FSX (i formated my computer) but there is one that i cannot remember. This was an "instant replay" addon that would display every motion on the NGX. The standard FSX replay tool dosent show wing flex, reversed motors, flaps and speed brakes. Does anyone know the name of the addon im looking for? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your suggestions Jim! I read about how you could descend on your own via the PD option in RC. But that dosent really allow the FMC to fly the descent by itself as far as i got it? I mean you'd have to manually adjust the speed and the vertical speed in order to reach the assigned altitude at an appropriote time. And in my case, like i described, i never had an option to chose PD, ATC just told me that he wanted me to descned RIGHT NOW or something like that. And also, my initial post has an additional question regarding flying a STAR. Ye its all up there :) Anyway im going to try the PD option at my next descent, so thanks for your help :) Cheers - Arhur

A few questions regarding the Autopilot
Thanks a lot for your answers guys! Theres just one more thing. Jeffhunter and Jasog, you guys both mention that i need to have the ILS rwy selected in my FMC. Chock on the other hand dosent mention this, and says that its the course settings and the NAV radios that determine which ILs you are tracking, regardless of whats in your FMC. Or perhaps i missinterperated what you were saying regarding that; Chock? Confuses me a bit, since as i wrote in my initial post i had a different runway programmed into my FMC than the one i was tracking via the COURSE settings and the NAV radios. And once i programmed the proper runway into the FMC, i was able to get established on the localizer via the "LOC/NAV" mode. But then again, at this point i was MUCH closer to the runway than i had been when i first tried to catch the localizer with the "LOC/NAV" mode. And this leaves me to think that i might have been just too far away to track the localizer the first time, like you mentioned Chock. How do i actually know if i am close enough to hit the "LOC/NAV" button? The first time i was trying(that's when it failed) i saw the Localizer diamond all the way to the left on the CDU, and it wasn't coloured on the inside. That probably dosent make sense lol, but what i mean is the diamond would only have purple grids, the inside of the diamond is black or whatever. Not purpler at least :( Once again, thank you! My first RC flight - a disaster
Hello forum, After reading the manual and getting around how to set up RC properly i finally got to do my first flight with RC. It wasnt too bad to begin with, but just before reaching my Top of descent it gradually started to turn into a mess :D First of all, at about 5nm miles away from my TOD, the ATC tells me to descend to FL110 and that he wanted me at this altitude 30 miles away from the airport. Well as i had no other options to chose from i just had to go with it and start the descent as ATC requested, and this brings me to my first question: Is there any way ATC can let you follow your FMC descent path? A litlle bit later, i passed the last waypoint of my flightplan(i had no STAR route in the plan i loaded into RC because im using vroute premium) and ATC starts vectoring me away from my STAR route that i have programmed into the FMC. At some point later i get to contact approach and chose IAP approach. I try to get back onto the FMC-STAR route but it just gets too messy because ATC has already vectored me miles away. So my question is, how can i be able to fly a STAR route that i have programmed into my FMC but that is not in the "Vroute Premium" plan that i load into RC? I know that i can do this if i chose IAP approach, but that is only if the STAR route is within 40nm of the airport. But in my case the STAR started further out than 40nm, and so as soon as i passed my last waypoint in the plan that was loaded into RC, ATC vectored me away from the STAR in my FMC. I should mention that before starting RC i chose a spesific Arrival runway in the "Controller Info" tab. Could this perhaps be the reason why ATC started vectoring me away after i passed my last waypoint? A few questions regarding the Autopilot
Hello folks, I did my first Radar Contact flight today and i ran into some wiered stuff with the MCP. Now the ATC started vectoring me away from my FMC route about 5nm from my ToD. After a while i get to contact approach and chose an IAP approach, to try and get back on my route. Question 1: When i chose a heading to fly so i could intercept my route again(because LNAV wouldnt let me engage it, my guess is i was to far away from the FMC route) the actual heading that the plane would fly was 5 degrees of from what i set in the MCP. How come? Question 2: Later on i canseled the IAP approach(got to messy trying to get back on the FMC route) and requested a vectored approach. So ATC eventually assigned an altitude for me, which i set into my MCP and hit the "ALT hold" button. The plane wouldn't descend to this altitude for some reason. I tried to reset the FD's, retap the AP switch, but no luck. So in the end i just had to use vertical speed to get to my desired altitude. Why wouldnt the plane descend in "ALT mode" ? Question 3: After i got my landing clerance and my final vector from ATC(10-15nm from the airport), i turned on LOC mode on the MCP. The button lit up but the plane wouldnt follow the localizer diamond on the CDU. Just a bit later i set my FMC for an ILS to my assigned runway, and only then was i able to make the plane line me up on the localizer using the "LOC" mode. Is this intended? i mean, can i only use the LOC mode if the ILS approach im going to fly is programmed into the FMC? Thanks for your time! - Arthur

I havent really tested a flight, which i understand is quite silly of me before coming here. I just havent had the time to sit down today and do the flight due to some RL stuff i needed to attend to. But based on what i read from the manual i thought chosing a STAR could give me problems, because if(as you mentioned) one of the STAR waypoint/waypoints should be outside the 40nm area of the arrival aiport, RC will start nagging me for flying the STAR when its not in the RC flightplan. Or are all STAR's within 40nm of the arrival airport? In that case i wouldnt have to worry about it as long as i chose an IAP approach. - Arthur
