  1. As a newbie to AVSIM, FLIGHT, and the forums, I'd like to thank everyone for their replies and help. I have used FS since the beginning, and compared to FSX, of course, FLIGHT is much different. As I've said, some things I like a lot, some things not so much. Anyway, my question this time is this:Where do you find the frequencies of the VOR's? I would like to fly in free flight using them. When you click on the airport, it shows the "Job Board" tab, and the comm frequencies (like you'll hear anything on those). I can't find NAVAID ones though. Do you need to like have sectionals, or something? Thanks.
  2. @ Great Ozzie: I did not know that about the Mooney. I just ASSumed, I guess, that aircraft engines needed mixtures. My only r/l flight hours were in a Cessna 152 (shows you how many years that's been; 152 used to be the trainer).@LHookins: Nope I enjoy the Stearman a lot (except for the instruments I'd rather have of course It flies better than the Icon, is FASTER, and, well so many things. I'll fly the Icon if it's required; otherwise I'll pass: the RV6 and Maule are more to my tastes.
  3. I was wondering if someone could help with this. In Free Flight, I have no problem bringing up the map. But in missions, say, a freight one, my "co-pilot" will say something like "we're low on fuel, better bring up the map and find a place to get fuel." Well, the map doesn't come up in missions. Am I doing something wrong? Or, is this a "feature."
  4. This is one of serveral reasons why I don't care for the Icon. I don't fly it much at all; well the one good thing is you can land on water with it. And, it's so slow, I could see the point that, with a good approach, if you manage your airpseed correctly, you won't need flaps, especially on the long, hard surface runways. I don't care for the cockpit either...looks more like you're driving a Nissan or something. No mixture? really? Icons in r/l have no mixture? The engine just runs the same at say, 7,000 feet as it does at 1,500?I guess I'm spoiled, but that cockpit...can't deal with it. I like my vertical speed indicator, attitude indicator, etc. And it;s SO SLOW. I only fly it if the mission/adventure whatever requires it. Otherwise for the $100 burger and that stuff, I prefer the RV6-A. For the freight/charter/medevac stuff, the Maule is fine; since I spend most of my time doing those missions, it's the plane I fly the most.Instead of the Icon, I wish we could have started with the good old 172. But, again, that's just me.
  5. For scenery DLC it's probably OK. As I have stated, I'm sort of torn by the way it seems Flight is going to work; starting with one area (well, one island) and a couple of planes, then, adding areas, and aircraft later. On the one hand, it will make Flight sort of expensive. But, as I've posted before the GOOD in this is, once more areas, and planes come out I (and you) can create exactly the sim we want. For example, I don't care about airliners. Probably wouldn't buy any. I do, however, like flying multi engine piston driven aircraft, and business type jets. So, when the 737 comes out, I probably won't care. But when the Gulfstream V, or Lear, or King Air ....well, you get the idea.Same with scenery areas. Europe, South America, don't care. North America, I'd like. In fact, California would keep me plenty busy.Just my opinion....
  6. My favorite plane so far, after a few days flying is the Maule. Least is the Icon. Don't Icons have mixture controls, and flaps? Never seen a real one, don't know, but the one in Flight, I don't like. Only thing I do like is, it's ampbibian, so yeah you can land on the water. Would rather have a Goose, for that. The Maule is worth the price to be able to do all the freight missions etc. But I am having problems making a smooth landing--I seem to do OK UNTIL over the threshold, then, drop too quick, and the medical evac patient/dogs/ducks whatever, don't care for it. It IS a SAFE landing, but there's a pretty hard SPLAT. Could be I'm no good with taildraggers yet, lol. Any hints?
  7. I have heard that the entire world is there, but in low res--and new areas (first being Alaska) will come out as DLC with higher res. The rumor says, the world is there, BUT, as there is no aircraft in the present set that could get you from, say Hilo Intl to LAX or whatever, you can't travel to it. Dont know if its true.
  8. First, I do think the rest of the islands is worth it. I still had about 4000 MS Points (i use them a lot on my 360), so once I decided I liked flight, I got the rest of the islands and the other 2 planes. I like the Maule, but am disappointed in the P51...should have checked to make sure it had a cockpit. You CAN still fly it with the HUD, and when you press the keys for prop, mixture, etc, it seems to react correctly, but it's not the same.As far as final cost...I have two thoughts. First, it will be high. Every plane you add, every new area, etc, will cost MS Points. 4000 is 50 dollars, so with, for example the Hawaii Adventure pack being 1600, the Maule 1200, etc, you can see how they will get eaten up quick. But, others have made the point that, once you bought FSX or whatever version for that $60, a lot of people didn't stop there--they have added scenery, aircraft, etc. Some have spent hundreds, or thousands of dollars beyond the initial purchase. The initial part of FLIGHT (limited as it is, one island, one plane), is free. It's up to you if you want to go further, which leads me to my second thought---the end cost really is up to you. If MS releases planes you aren't interested in you don't have to pony up the points (or dollars, if the reputed shelving of points actually happens), for them. I definitely plan to be selective with planes, when more come out. Same with scenery areas; I'm planning to get Alaska, when it's ready, and am hoping for North America. I'm primarily intersted in flying in the US, so, when Europe, South America etc come out, will I get those, or get them right away, probably not. So, I guess you could say, that yes it will be expensive, but you can create the sim that YOU want. And that part, I like.Just please God, give us VOR, DME, Autopilot (flying the Maule 150 miles on a cargo run would be more pleasant), and multi engine. A Baron or 310 would be fine; A King Air would be better. Airliners, I don't care, but a GS or Lear, I would buy.ONE THING though, I worry about...since everything is downloaded, I'm dreading when I have to reinstall. Download everyting again? Anyone know where if anywhere the files are stored, so you can make backups?
