Am I wrong about the point of this thread?
Is this about scenery combatibility that not show well or about the blue color of runways and taxiways at dawn and dusk?
Because my BIG problem is the second! This wonderful DX10 pains me at the time I love most to takeoff or landing and that's dawn and dusk :(
Steve please do something about this because addon scenery developers will never make a DX10 update.
-
Yup. Just backup the originals and try it! You can't mess it up!
All the textures in FSX - any version, are DXT1, DXT3, DXT5, 32-bit, as .bmp's or .dds's.
pj
OK I did the above inside the scenery folder of the addon "Flytampa Athens". I converted BMP to DXT5 files then I erased BMP files but nothing happened. The blue color taxiway was there again. :(
-
somehow 22fps in dx9 vs. dx10 are not the same thing.I noticed that too
-
Hi Jewel:
You can use these two files to convert your old aircraft textures to DXT5 format: The first one is the bat file, here:
and secondly, "ImageTool" from the SDK here. The links give you a direct download to wherever you save your downloaded files: just place both in the aircraft texture folder and dbl-click on the bat file. It will convert the bmp's to DXT5 .dds files.
Post back if you have any problems. I should add - there's no guarantee this will make the aircraft "DX10 compatible", because - as has been said already - the problem may well be within the mdl file itself, but there's no harm checking, is there! Just backup the aircraft first.
Hello Paul! Thanks for your help but my problem isn't aircraft textures but scenery textures. This tool works for scenery textures too?!
-
Okay. Apologize. I'm not a texture expert and thought any product made for FSX is DX10 compatible as they have the .dds format. But I do understand now a product can be FSX compatible too if FSX can read older texture formats and FSX has the capability to read FS9 textures in DX9 only. I still say that you should get rid of those products that don't conform to the DX10 formats. There are so many FSX products out there now. I could understand the problem if FSX was just released and not very many addon products were made for FSX but there are a ton of products out there now. That was my point. I did some searching on Google and find that it is no problem converting the textures to be compatible with DX10 but you would also have to change the code in the Model for it to work. That's probably why you can see some textures compatible with DX10 and some not as the modelling was not coded properly. Here's the link I looked at - http://simhq.com/for...ures_of_FS.html. Just trying to help you guys!
Best regards,
Jim
There is no reason to apologize Jim and I'm sorry if I make you feel that way with my previous answer. It was a fast reply because I was at work. Thank you very much for your help and suggestions. We all here try to make DX10 great!
So I downloaded the guide that you posted above but for me that i'm not so tech guy looks very difficult to do all these conversions. I hope for someone to find a much easier way like a downloadable fix as Steve's  The best would be if Aerosoft make the fix!
-
I might add that it might be easier just to get rid of the FS9 stuff completely and run just FSX stuff. I don't have anything FS9 anymore. If you have solely FSX install, you are completely compatible to DX10. DX9 stuff comes from FS9 and previous versions of FS.
Jim we are not talking about FS9 but for FSX addons like Aerosoft that are combatible with DX9 and not combatible with DX10.

Addon converter X is the program for converting Dx9 to Dx10 issues.
I know but it does it only for some addon programs. Not for all :(
-
Besides having to pay for a $30 program that does not work on all textures all the time, lets post some info on how to manually convert all those white or grey or missing textures so they work and show up properly in DX10 preview mode.
There must be some FSX modelers and texture pros that know how this can be done.
Lets get those airplanes and airports looking proper folks!!
Amen :Praying: It's the one and only serious problem with DX10!
-
Note. Hiding that bar will give you 5-10 extra farmes. Maybe more. Also when ready. Hold ALT and the top menu will hide too.
Side note. For W7 64bit users, remove the Automationcore.dll from your machine. Get rid of it. All my other programs work just fine and not one CTD no matter how hard o tried.
PM me for more info. Just FYI!!
BOO
ORBX in their products manual also suggest windowed mode as their team works too in this mode (!) but I never managed to make upper and down bars to disappear. So your info is very helpful and I can be in DX9 mode with excellent frames until Steve or someone else fix the grey-blue color of runways in addon airports.
-
I have purchased Addon Converter X and does not work for all sceneries. I wish someone to find a solution about this one and only bad problem in DX10 mode.
-
how to get Tool Tips back? Using DX10 they don't appear anymore.
I want the same too:)

Markus I have ati and cannot help you but I remember that somewhere here in this forum I saw a post about nvidia driver versions. Someone went to previous versions because of problems that he had. If you have the time do a search in this forum or wait the nvidia folks to answer you.
-
I have ati 6850 but it's not GPU fault. From your description seems like the fix not installed properly. We all had this runway flickering problem before the fix.
-
Does Addon Converter X impact framerates? I am thinking of getting this to fix my white AI aircraft.
OK I purchased the full version. It has no framerates impact but it doesn't solve the grey runways and taxiways for all airports but for some only.
-
I don't know if I must make a new post about that but I found the equivalent of nvidia inspector for ati users and called Ati Radeon Pro. It has more detailed settings and it has also the mipmap setting that Carl mentioned above. I played a little with the settings but the shimmering issue was like before.
@jewel - yeah, better frames, smoother flow - and much clearer fsx textures. AF is certainly better. Nvidia have pretty much captured the market for the FSX users.
Shimmering is quite controllable in FSX when using an Nvidia card.
Paul I believe that because I made a DX10 test with my old laptop that has Nvidia Geforce 9650M GS 512 MB and shimmering was not so bad. So I think I'll go for nvidia when Steve fix the grey runways issue.
-
it is not black squares.
it is tiny black dots that shimmer during planning (as the sun reflection on the water)
is there anybody around with a 5850/70 who tried dx10?
I have a 6850 and shimmering is everywhere with DX10 less or more. It's not a GPU issue but FSX.

All addons you already purchased will need a patch (free or sold to you) from 3PD to take advantage of DX11, they will all work under a DX11 platform but you will not see any visual improvements from them under a DX11 platform without a patch, or you just wait and see who's 3PD will make their addons DX11 out of the box for P3D.....ain't happening tomorrow.
Also, don't forget about P3D wanting to make their sim. a 64-bit...that will be another ball game right there...it's called compatibility with what you already have.....do I hear $$$
Hmm on second thought I can wait for DX10 patches for FSX
-
Ground textures are full of "blinking" black spots
Same here but as Carl wrote if I move the sliders to the left the black squares reduced but not disappeared.
-
The Addon Converter X works in demo mode everytime you shut down fsx and restart it so you can start up fsx, check an airport, close fsx and restart, etc., etc.
Jim I purchased the full version of the converter. OK the manual says that the program cannot convert everything due to combatibility reasons so I knew that I'll face this fact. I hope Steve do his magic to fix this issue
-
It's a pity that the DX10 fix didn't happen back when FSX was new... this wouldn't have been an issue now. It's a tall order with the giant catalog out there now. Maybe Devs could keep this in mind for all future projects though.
Or wait for the upcoming P3D in DX11 mode!
-
You could be my twin brother Jamie - I swapped out a five-month-old 5870 for an Nvidia GTX580 and haven't looked back!
Paul the difference that you saw between nvidia and ati in DX10 mode is about better frames and better game flow or about better AA filters?
-
Plan A: Untick and tick again DX10 in REX and reinstall textures worked for someone for the water that looks like diamond pool like mine. So I'll do the same and hope to fix the gray terrain. I'll inform you about the resultsl.
Plan B: At another post someone said that Addon Converter X solve this problem not for all but for many addon airports. I'll give it a try if plan A fails and I'll wait for a steve fix B)
Plan A failed.
Plan B failed for some airports but worked for others. I had the time to check only 4 airports. For Flytampa Athens, Aerosoft Heraklion and Munich X failed but for Aerosoft Lisbon worked.
-
Well it appears they left it out of your CCC are felt there is no need for that setting. You do have a pretty good computer and a newer ATI card. In your FSX do you have AA and anisotropic filtering checked. It took me days to keep reading the forums looking for potential changes. I tried different settings in CCC and adding/deleting different settings in the fsx.cfg file before I got things to work with decent frames for my computer. There are so many variables you can plaly with that I found most of my time tweaking instead of flying.
Sorry I could not help you
Regards,
It's OK Carl and thanks for your time. I don't have an issue with my card. It's just that now with DX10 I search for a better filter setting.
-
Jewel,
You are close..that is part of the Catalyst AI, which I have the block "unchecked". The next setting below that should be "MipMap Deltail Level" at least on my CCC. Within the MipMap you should be able to move the slider from High Performance to Quality. I have the slider set to High Performance, which helps on the FPS and worked with my computer.
I'll unchecked it then Carl:) But under this there is only the slider for "wait for vertical refresh". No mipmap for me:(

I agree 100% Paul! :good:
Look what Mathijs Kok the Sales Manager of Aerosoft said about DX10 after Steve's fix:
"Yes I get slightly smoother framerates but that's not an issue many people have these days. For me (and I did test the new ideas) it
still makes little sense.
That silly DX10 preview mode in FSX has cost us tens of thousands of Euro's in support, it always was a disaster. The new ideas are
cool but they also do not document the options (just as MS did not do any documentation in the sdk's).
So for professional work it is more or less irrelevant. We cannot develop products and make 5000 boxes only to find out the developer
changed something."
