  1. STOP SHOWING THESE BLASTED 777 VIDEOS!!!!

I don't like flying heavies and every time I see one of these videos I want to search for a "BUY NOW" button, its killing me and its probably gonna kill my wallet too :(

sometimes I think the FSX community is worse than STEAM Sales.....

  2. I swear by GEX & UTX, and the GEX team are a nice bunch just like the ORBX team. I am glad ORBX is in the "fight", just by them announcing FTXGlobal and showing screenshots GEX put out their "Global" update which shows what happens when companies compete, the consumer wins (or should at least in theory). Lets get 1 thing straight and both the ORBX and GEX team's will back me up 100% on this...... GEX & FTXGlobal products will NOT work together because they both do the SAME EXACT THING; UTX is a different matter altogether. GEX has plans for their version 2 products including US&CAN which from what I have been told and seen screenshots of WIP's will include new texturing effects that have 3D bump-mapping so that you get the feeling of more autogen without the frame hit (GEX's 5 star rated autogen will still be the same if not better than before). FTXGlobal is NOT malware, it is a great piece of software from the ORBX team and IMHO is the only real competition to GEX & UTX at this time, the choice is yours, choose what you think looks better.

  3.

Which is not very helpful if we are talking the NGX.

I was well aware that you were referring to the NGX, I was offering another solution to you and others that might not be as well known in case PMDG decides against the "upgrade", I would like to think it was somewhat helpful.

  4. Today I was told of an update to a purchase I made a little over a year ago, when I went to download the update at the FSPilotShop there was a notice that I had to pay 5 bucks to reactivate my account, I don't think so, what kind of crap is that. That's the only place I know of that you have to pay for an update, see ya FSPilotShop. :t0103:

As for charging members to download updates for their "expired" products, I find that disgusting, however perhaps the manufacturers website has those said updates available for download, if not you could try "other means" of getting your update, just because your link has expired does not mean your license key has expired.

  5. Given FSGenesis's reputation to be pretty solid and they fact they put out multiple sales per year if it goes on sale for the US I might just pick it up, ADE is not so hard to use and understand to a competent level, if the NEXTMap terrain is really that good I might take the plunge, I don't mind the plateau's so much so long as its not "jagged" but rounded to look more like an incline than a sheer cliff (unless of course that is realistic for that airport). This is one of the reasons why I did not get into FSGlobal Ultimate which looks extremely accurate; speaking of which anyone used that free tool that supposedly comes with FSG Ultimate, and if so what are your thoughts?

  6. Despite the fact that these videos are not in HD, and are not extremely "polished" like lots of the NGX videos are, the systems functionality which I believe is what they are really trying to showcase at this point is astounding, the only real competition I have seen to their level of realism is the Majestic Dash-8-Q400 and that is saying tons as they provide commercial Level-D simulators with their software for real pilot training. Sadly I will not be picking up the 777 as I do not like to fly the heavies, however I am nothing short of floored at the systems and graphics DESPITE the raw video footage which to me is not necessarily a bad thing.

  7. Here is the real deal, FTX global just for textures not coloring is very very competitive and the autogen is well done like you would expect from Orbx. However GEX has more experience and a truly dedicated company (GEX only exists for 1 purpose vs Orbx which does a few different things even though they are related) to this "fight" which is what is giving them that slight upper hand right now. With GEX V2 (I know US/CAN V2 is coming soon) and the GEX team using new 3D bump mapped textures it is going to get interesting to see where this leads. For people who already own GEX+UTX I would just stick with GEX & UTX for now as there is little difference between the products, however for the newcomer they now have 2 really viable options and if you have many Orbx FTX sceneries then FTX Global is just right for you even now, just my 2 cents.

  8. USA 10m mesh free here.  Europe is 30m

    http://simviation.com/1/browse-Terrain+Mesh-64-29

I actually have used that mesh and there are plateau problems all over the place, given it is freeware. however what killed it for me was in south florida there are these spikes that shoot up out of the ground and go to about 75,000 feet, after seeing this I completely uninstalled every bit of Raimondo Taburet's meshes other than Alaska and Hawaii which seem to be pretty darn good.

  9. I have been trying to get the story on this new thing FSGenesis has been throwing out there called NextMAP which according to FlightSim renders Europe in a stunning 9.8m Mesh which is incredible detail. Most of us know with high res meshes can come some really bad problems such as the infamous plateauing of airports amongst other undesirable things. I was wondering if anyone has used this and how it stacks up to their previous products as well as FSGlobal Ultimate, anyone?

  10. I don't mind this too much. This at least makes it quite clear that if you're downloading it for the 3rd time, you'd better back up the copy you've just downloaded safely. With the other site, I was never warned, and only had to redownload when my external hard-drive with X-Plane on and the installers died.

    Lesson learned :-)

I agree with the multiple downloads generally being 3+, I think that is a fair system, and if all else fails you still have your license key which USUALLY never expires and you might be able to get your download through other means.

  11. I have been using GEX for years, even back into FS2004 I used GE Pro and UT, I have to say FTX Global looks really really good, in fact I think they are the only real competitor to the GEX+UTX combo. I guarantee you that this is only the beginning of a competitive war between Flight 1 and ORBX, one that we the consumer will win :)

  12. Carenado entitles you through their website to only 3 downloads and then you have to re-purchase the entire product again, even backups can fail, get lost, or stolen (there are plenty of stupid thieves out there). However I think a limited number of downloads instead of a time lapse is better called for as it allows you to take advantage of the situation if you have a serious problem 1 year down the road or so.

  13. interesting as to why AVSIM and Flightsim would allow the files, I have KTPA for FS9 from FlyTampa and it looks better than this freeware one, given there are some similarities, however there are plenty of differences.... Has it been confirmed that it is a pirated version of KTPA from FlyTampa?

  14. Hello everyone, I recently downloaded and installed a new  freeware scenery from the file library called Tampa3D, the quality of the work is quite nice especially if you use Airport Enhancer HDX and REX ESS + OD, however there is the really annoying scenery killing documented problem, there are giant black boxes covering the runways! I have looked at Flight Sim's forums and someone came up with a texture fix however apparently I am completely stupid when it comes to making textures (I am not a texture artist, in fact I don't think I have ever made texture before) so when someone tells me to make a black alpha channel saved in a DXT1 .DDS format I colored the background black and saved it in a DXT 1 .DDS format but to no avail.

Does anyone on here have the file needed to fix this error on and otherwise great piece of freeware, or can someone please give me the run down on how you exactly make a black alpha channel in a program like paint.net? Thanks for any and all help!

  15. It will likely have what the Piper PA46T Malibu Jetprop DLX has which is a Garmin G500, its like the little brother to the G1000 and I like it alot, the only problem with the PA46T Jetprop is that fact you can tell the aircraft was not made for a high powered turboprop and it will overspeed on you like its nothing.

  16. No, it does not confirm that. When installing 3DS Max, there is an option to install either the 32 bit or 64 bit version, depending on your operating system. Up until now, the MDL exporter for 3DS has only worked in the 32 bit version. The Prepar3D team updated the 3DS Max 2012 exporter to work in the 64 bit version of the program as well now. This just means faster exports with higher levels of detail. It has nothing at all to do with the core engine.

Oh I stand corrected, so the 64 bit is still speculation then, well here is to positive thoughts about 2.0
