Pschlute, Thanks for the prompt reply. If im flying to an airport without a STAR but rather only a transition, what should I enter into the RTE page?

Hey everyone, I am now having a problem with my T/D not showing up anywhere, and the aircraft will not descend in VNAV. It used to work just fine when I would enter my STAR before takeoff. (I was being lazy.) What happens now is I will set up the flight plan with a SID and then program the FMC to fly direct to the destination airport. When about 400 nm out or so, I will enter a STAR. LNAV will disengage due to a discontinuity, and I will go into the LEGS page and correct any discontinuity. However even after that, the PROG page will only show E/D distance, and never show T/D. VNAV will also not show the T/D, and T/D never shows up on the EFIS. Also, after entering the STAR, the descent profile indicator will show up on the EFIS. (This never shows up until the descent begins normally.) Doh! Any advice? Thanks.

Hey Kenny, Thanks for the reply. I figured out what the problem was. I would be lazy and enter the STAR before takeoff. This would cause all al**udes for waypoints (LEGS) to be less than the al**ude for the proposed step climb...hence, the countdown would stop. Now I enter the STAR at some point after the last S/C and it works like a charm. Thats what I get for trying to cheat. What you said about the 500fpm step climb makes sense, I'll have to give it a try. VNAV is a bit zealous at times. Thanks much

Hey everyone, I must be screwing something up. Can someone please explain to me in detail how to program and execute a step climb. I read the pdf manual, tried it, and it's not working. Do I have to program the step in the legs section? Thanks

Alright, This small issue is getting annoying. Someone correct me if im messing something up setting up a step climb please. I've been flying from KLAS to VHHH. I set the step climb interval to 2000ft. My initial cruise is FL300. The FMC then gives instructions to step to FL320 at approx. 1200nm. At 103 nm from this step climb, the countdown freezes. Am I forgetting to do something simple/stupid here? I've already uninstalled/reinstalled 747x once. This problem happens with numerous liveries. Any help is appreciated.

Hello all, This is my first post in Avsim, so please let me know if I do anything wrong. I'm having a problem with the 747-400 which I just got last week. The FMC will show the distance in nautical miles counting down (under the VNAV section in the FMC) to the step climb. Suddenly the count will stop at some random mileage, usually around 70nm or so. I can keep flying and flying and the distance will remain the same for the remainder of the flight. Any ideas? FYI I usually use a cost index of 25 or 30, which translates to mach .830 cruising speed. I also use the odd/even rule for flight levels when traveling east/west respectively, which honestly doesn't seem to matter in the 737NGX and MD11. Any help? Ryan Dewey
