  1. SOLVED! Danny receives my prestigious 'Helpful Human of the Year' award. What a great guy. Thank you
  2. You sir, are a fine example of generosity. Thank you very much. I've tried messing with the 'OceanHeight' files and they do indeed affect animation. So those I posted above (or at least whatever ones install with a stock FSX) should do the trick. Thank you again. Very kind of you.
  3. I think you're right, I just downloaded and installed the final FSX demo to do just that. Unfortunately the files are not comprehensive. I'll try the full version. Cheers. EDIT: Ha, it's only allowing a repair or remove.....the launcher knows I've already got it installed.......happy days!
  4. I think it's these files I need: OceanHeight20FieldHigh.dds OceanHeight20FieldLayer.dds OceanHeight20FieldLayer1.dds OceanHeight20FieldLayer2.dds OceanHeight20FieldLayer3.dds OceanHeight20FieldLayer4.dds OceanHeight20FieldLayer5.dds OceanHeight20FieldLow.bmp OceanHeightField.bmp All located in FSX/Texture. Although are these for DX10, too? I'd appreciate if someone could upload these files (stock), it's worth a try.
  5. That's extremely kind of you, Danny, thank you. But I already have the HLSL file (as backup). I'm reasonably sure the REX animations alter files in the FSX/effects folder. Although I'm no expert. So I'm hoping someone here is
  6. Right, well that's two of us in dire need of the original files! I'm to blame, my fault entirely, but PLEASE, I'm tired, I'm now upset, I need those files. Some kind person out there can help, I'm sure.
  7. Hey all, I hope you're all well. I've built my new rig (it's running FSX very nicely) installed EVERYTHING AGAIN, which took so long it almost made me cry. I'm using Steve's fixer, as usual, which has now - as far as I'm concerned after v2.0 - made FSX DX10 the only choice. BUT, after finishing my settings in REX, I must of ticked the 'Water Animation' boxes accidentally (basically, I was rushing about trying to get everything finished, ready to fly) and NOOOOOO! I've installed some awful REX water animation. The reason for the "NOOOOOO!" is because my REX backup didn't backup (I originally had the FSX folder within REX set incorrectly) so I can't easily revert. So, can anyone please help me? I've spent days and days building a new rig, installing 150GB of FSX stuff......again, getting my 4770k OC stable, only to balls it all up right at the bloody finishing line! Any help (preferably the original DX10 water animation files) would be hugely appreciated! Thank you
  8. MyTrafficX is the main cause of FSX taking longer to load to the main menu for me. Without MTX, my FSX main menu is loaded within 10 seconds and that's only loading from a WD HDD. With MTX, it's about 35 seconds. From clicking on the 'Fly Now' button to actually flying takes about 1 1/2 minutes. With my SSD it was nearer 1 minute.
  9. Go to what lengths? Sending an email? Unless you've mastered telepathy, then sending the management an email is the quickest form of contact I know. The reason I suggested contacting Mr Venema directly, is for one reason only, you're more likely to get results with any company when you go straight to the top. It generally works for me. Hence my suggestion above. At least Orbx (and I'm no fan of it's forums either) aren't quite in the same league as EA yet, it takes your money and not only does it give you zero support but also a rehash of a rehashed bad game! lol.
  10. Like RudiJG1 said, go here: http://www.fullterrain.com/support.html If you contact John Venema with a nice, polite email, you might find him more affable than you think.
  11. Yeah, you're right. Hadn't noticed that before. Although with the original (performance draining) 3D lighting, I get flickering lights when descending out of cloud. I'd rather have solid on than flickering.
  12. FTX Global is outstandng, I bought it and installed it pretty much on the day of release and no problems whatsoever. What with the better textures, outstanding lighting and zero performance impact, it's worth every penny. I can't wait for the openLC and Vector stuff.
  13. Appreciated is an understatement, CB, I'd be ecstatic. If Mr Venema was serious about taking the likes of EU ENG and making it equal to the likes of PNW and Australia in terms of overall quality, then I'd pay for such an upgrade. Yes, inevitably there'd be the "why should I pay anymore for a better version of the same thing?" camp, but then the same could be said about Carenado's stuff. I'd gladly be part of a survey to see just how many would actually pay for a high quality FTX EU, I'd even give my money up front. Look at how successful the Kickstarter and Steam's 'Early Access' schemes are. So, why not Orbx? John is often commenting on less than decent sales of this and that, so why not gauge interest from what customers are willing to pay for, before they get it? Yep.
  14. Thank you, John. You didn't need to give your input in this thread, but it's appreciated nonetheless. Look, most of the guys here know what Orbx is all about - high quality scenery at a good price - and most here also know that you yourself would not have been entirely happy with how the EU regions looked upon release. Without going into the ins and outs of it, I would think you were left in a financial position where your hands were tied and the debut Orbx UK region had to be released. And a pre-Christmas release is understandable, although I'm inclined to believe that this decision actually had a detrimental effect in the long run. This is basically why I started this thread, John; to enquire of others and hopefully discover what people really think of Orbx at this present time, in a mature, civilised discussion. The unfortunate thing you have to remember, John, is that the disappointment over England (as well as Wales, NI and even Scotland for some) is ongoing. It's not a boring episode of Coronation Street or a terrible Star Wars film, it's not even a substandard computer game, these can be watched/played once, deplored and then quickly forgotten. Unless I reject England and Wales, forget the £50 I've lost and then spend more on something else, then every time I fly over these FTX countries I'm constantly reminded that they're not as good as FTX AUS, NA and NZ. And yes, like some diplomatic folk have suggested, I should be grateful, but why should I? Why should I be grateful that Orbx have released outstanding representations of Australia, North America, Canada and New Zealand but then dropped the ball when it came to the UK? We're not talking about a goodhearted gesture that backfired from a mate, or a cake my mum baked that tasted awful, both can be offered gratitude for their good intentions. For many, we're talking a serious hobby, one that lots of people are passionate about and spend time and money on, some too much! "Orbx is trying to take over" or "Orbx wants you to only run FTX" are loose comments dotted about the net and since the release of Global these kinds of comments are increasingly abundant. But do you know what? I'd love that! I fly FTX and only FTX, I love the consummate ease that comes with FTX; install it, run it. And if Orbx ever manage (and the release of Global has brought this closer) to truly allow an 'FTX ON' switch, thus negating FTX Central, then I will be a very happy man. The amount of times I've run FSX, chosen my flight, waited for it to load and then realised I hadn't set the correct region in FTX Central, is too many! But seriously, those that simply say to my argument, "if you don't like it, then don't use it", are missing the point. I want to use FTX exclusively and I don't think I'm the only one. So when my FTX world consists of amazing scenery to fly my GA over, it's irritating when the fly in the ointment is so noticeable. P.S. Oh, and John, be honest, you wouldn't have let this thread run in your forums, would you? ^_^
  15. I think there's quite a bit of confusion here, although that's probably due to my, less than clear, thread title. I wasn't specifically targeting FSX when I asked what people would like to see in their FS. I was actually asking what people would like to see "if something 'new' was to come along". So if FSXI (or the equivalent) was in production, what one feature (visuals, performance, etc) would be most important to you. Obviously none of this really matters, after all, this thread is just a bit of fun. ^_^
  16. Fair point, but I was addressing the FTX regions. And this entire thread is basically discussing the SIM720 FTX EU packs, released under the Orbx name. Yes, you're right, Scott. As above.
  17. Heh, exactly, like I said, "from what I've seen". I'm just doubtful that P3D V2 is going to look a huge amount better, DX11 or not. I might be wrong and I hope I am.
  18. I'm with you all the way on the graphics front, simmerhead, but early feedback is already showing a massive lean towards smooth frame rates. And actually, when you think about, a completely smooth experience is what gives true immersion, don't you think? Although I'd love to see an FS that, when I glance out of the window, looks as good as it does in real life, if it was stuttering and lagging the immersion would be gone. For true immersion (not considering crazy VR tech) I suppose both visuals and performance are needed. But this poll is all about what one feature people would place at the top of their list ....and I'll stick with visual fidelity.
  19. The problem I have, DJ, is that all 10% came in one big chunk and apart from SAK, all 10% were Orbx' latest releases..
  20. FSX. Even X-Plane aficionados would agree, that with several choice add-ons, it's still the flight sim. Bung a few quid (well actually I've spent over £1000, but don't tell my wife, she'd go completely nuts......well actually she wouldn't, but I thought I'd just throw a bit of lame, comedy club humour in there) in to it and after transforming an area of your home into an Airbus cockpit - well at least that's what you believe whilst sat in a knackered old chair, behind a desk, covered in paperwork and half drunk mugs of coffee - you can be part of a simulated world that is still capable of letting you take to the skies in a reasonably convincing manner. If you're fortunate enough to have the likes of REX, FTX, MyTraffic, Carenado, RealAir, PMDG, A2A and maybe even a TrackIR setup, then FSX is very good. But let's be honest, many areas of it could be better, especially with modern hardware running the show. P3D V2 is on the horizon, but from what I've seen, it doesn't look like it's pushing any particular boundaries. DX11? Give me a break; I've been into bleeding-edge graphics (every rig I've built was for high resolution, maxed out gaming) for years and the DX11 implementation in P3D V2 looks average at best. Anyway, I digress, again. So, you FSX pilots out there. You've got the best already, but if something "new" was to come along, what is the one thing that really has to show an appearance? For me, personally, I'd like it all, but I'm what's often crudely labelled a "graphics wh*re". So for me, cutting-edge visuals are top of the list.
  21. I can't argue with that, Andreas. Good post.
  22. OK, OK, I screwed up, I get it. Even though I'm entirely to blame, the horse has been shot and I've just eaten a large slice of humble pie. It wasn't the first time I've eaten from that dish either and it still tastes bittersweet. I'll tell you what, you guys forgive me and I'll forgive Orbx for making a mistake also. How about it? After all, we're all only human, aren't we? And besides, it might bring a nice end to a thread that's run it's course. ^_^ Happy flying guys. See you in the skies.
  23. Stop it, Howard, you're being naughty now.... ^_^ Look guys, I'm sorry. What I said was bloody stupid, I didn't think before I opened my big mouth (well before I pressed the "post" button) and nonsense like that will only cause the integrity, of what has been a very interesting and sound thread, to be lost. But come on, don't hang me out to dry just for that. I ain't all bad!
  24. Yes, I thought that was made extremely clear and not just in the original post but throughout. I presume some people simply don't read things through properly before replying. Although, what with some of my longer posts, I can't blame them! I couldn't agree more, Ian. I really enjoy the FTX stuff and I appreciate what the likes of Orbx, Carenado, RealAir, etc, do to keep things fresh in FTX, but the unofficial clique that seems to appear and keep comments from getting too close to John and his team is a very real thing and almost uncanny in it's nature. You'd never see something like this in the Orbx forums, it would be pounced upon and ripped apart in seconds by overzealous moderation; but I think this thread, although containing strong views, many not in favour of FTX EU, has remained civilised and reasonably calm. And as much as the guys over at the Orbx boards constantly bang on about only wanting to hear constructive criticism (in other words, don't say anything bad about our product), I honestly believe threads like this are more constructive than simple, "this town is in the wrong place", kind of threads. But I'm only me, so I may well be talking complete and utter tosh.
  25. You weren't tarred with that brush, Scott, I said "many", not all, which is quite true. Besides, Bryan addresses the English people and then goes on to explain how the FTX PNW isn't like that in real life, like we're all some kind of ignorant fools. And let's be fair here, Bryan's last post didn't exactly read without giving off a whiff of condescension, did it? I believe my comment was fair and didn't overstep the mark. But I apologise for any offence caused.
