All of your input was useful to me, and I was lucky insomuch that I only needed to have the 2 routers replaced as well as the power supply on the PC, most of which was covered by insurance, so I was able to upgrade to an Asus ROG GT-AX1000 which is really a monster of a router. I also had some very interesting and positive discussions with my ISP on how to set up one of these machines... So thanks again for your input and happy flying...
  2. I'm with you. The actually box is replaceable - it's the set up and data that is a time hog I would like to avoid.
  3. Fleng200.. Thanks for getting back to me. That's the understanding I have. The issue may be that the z370 is no longer available.
  4. I was hit by lightning! I posted this on our XP11 forum and received some good input -which again raised a couple of technical issues where I would appreciate any comments you guys can provide.Would appreciate if somebody could provide some technical input regarding the below scenarios. I was literally hit by lightning which blew out my ASUS TUF z370 motherboard and power supply. (There may be more damage but this is what my tech guy tells me is the probable damage ). The lightning impulse came via my Internet supplier's coax cable - through their router and then via the cable to my mesh router and my PC which were the only units cabled. I don't think this access is covered by the power supply you mentioned. (This referenced a recommendation to use a separate battery backup power supply) The routers were powered on for Internet services and WiFi but the PC was turned off but cabled, 1. Scenario. Get a new motherboard - but the 370 is out of production.... 2. Scenario. Move upto the z390 motherboard which would involve going to an i9 chip, new RAM? 3. Scenario. Since I have to upgrade the motherboard should I consider moving to a Ryzen solution? Given the current status of XP11, where I was running rock solid on my i7 OC chip, and a forthcoming XP12, what scenario would give me the best flexibility, give that I am a solitary 1PC/1screen operator without any other desire than to be able to aviate and navigate quality aircraft in good scenery etc? Any advice from somebody who may recently have upgraded would be appreciated. Another comment I received was as follows: "You can expect a lot of near term failures when lightning hits, lots of other stuff will fail soon.\" This also raises my concern about the best wat to proceed. We all know that insurance may cover some of the cost, so, since I will have to cover the rest myself I would like to make the best of it. Thanks in advance for your help. Bruce Martin
  5. Hi RXP, Sorry for the delay but I am dealing with some medical issues at the moment. I can send your direct screenshots if you could give an PM address. In the meantime I can inform your that references are made as follows: Backdoor:Win32/Bladabindi!ml Refers to: File: C:\ProgramData\Reality XP\rxpGtnSim32.dll Trojan:Win32/Wacatac.DE!ml Refers to: File: C:\ProgramData\Reality XP\rxpGtnSim32.dll Trojan:Win32/Woreflint.A!cl Refers to: File: C:\ProgramData\Reality XP\rxpGtnSim32.dll All are shown as Serious, quarantined and removed automatically. All in all, this is similar behaviour as reported several times in this thread. I will now read through in detail and follow the recommended steps to see if there is anything I can do from my side and otherwise I will delete RXP completely and ensure everything is cleaned out prior to a reinstall with recommended exclusions. Maybe I will get lucky this time. 6. Got your point and will provide screenshots tomorrow regarding tie to RXP. As a retiree th computer is privately owned and I will provide specs likewise tomorrow. I have flown simulations since the fIrst FS versions came out, went through P3rd v3 and 4 before coming into XP11. Used Rxp products with P3rd and would liike to continue on XP11. Thanks Bruce
  7. I am currently trying to set up the Reality Xp GTN750 (latest version) for the KA 350 Dual Mode modification and have currently three locked threats that Windows Defender has isolated as a threat: Backdoor:Win32/Bladabindi!ml Trojan:Win32/Wacatac.DE!ml Trojan:Win32/Woreflint.A!cl Can anybody confirm that I would be safe to follow the above methodology. I also use Malwarebytes but have allowed Reality XP files without further issue. Thanks Schaefer
  8. I have been slowly upgrading my older PC to achieve better FPS and quality on a retirees funding and found myself debating my next steps. As it would basically be a hardware choice I contacted the original builders of the PC and requested a recommendation. This I then posted to Tom's Hardware who are usually sensible people around hardware which resulted in the below thread. If any of you have the time to process and maybe give me some pointers from a FSX POV |I would appreciate it as I am currently not able to get much above 15/20 FPS average and usually about 5 FPS at airports and with graphics at normal or below. Thanks in advance: "23 May 2018 16:04:48 I am looking to upgrade the above CPU/Motherboard and my local IT pusher is recommending: a MSI B360M Gaming plus micro ATX with a i5 8600K/3.6 GHz Processor with a Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO 92mm cooler. RAM would be 16bg HyperX fury DDR4 - 2666MHz CL16. I would be primarily using the new PC for FSX Flight Simulator and X Plane 11. Does this make sense or should I consider anything else?? Thanks for your help and comments. Schaefer47 why_wolf abVMotherboard abĈASUS 23 May 2018 18:07:43 Warp 9 That's kind of a side-grade. You'd be going from a 4 core / 8 thread CPU to a 6 core / 6 thread CPU. There would be of course the relatively minor IPC improvements from the generation change. I suppose the thing to do is to hit the forums for those specific games and see what kind of results people with the new coffee lake and Ryzen CPUs are getting. My cursory check indicates that FSX will support multicores (more cores = better) and it looks like X Plane is moving towards multicore support. Found this dev post of X Plane, sounds like multicore is still a work in progress so I'm not sure how much of an improvement (if any) it would be. https://developer.x-plane.com/2017/05/three-performance... If you do want to upgrade I'd stick with your class of CPU to avoid side-grading. So if you have an i7 stick with an i7 or AMD equivalent R7. An aside; pairing an unlocked K series CPU on a B series motherboard is frankly stupid. The whole point of the K series is that they are unlocked for overclocking which can only be done on Z series boards. Same though on that CPU cooler, 92mm??, junk. You'd want a 120mm like an EVO 212 or a Cryorig H7 as a starting point. Quoted 1 time. Reply to why_wolf Schaefer47 24 May 2018 15:51:43 Hi Why-Wolf, Now that's what I call a responsible answer.... It is also the reason I mentioned that I had an offer from my IT dealer - or should I say pusher ;0)) I have the abovementioned PC with the below specs: It was supposedly the top GPU 5/6 years ago for FSX and I have added a GTX 1060 6gb which I have OC'ed as well as adding new RAM up to the recommended 16GB. I also use Process Lasso to manage cores which seems to work well enough. It runs reasonably well and is fairly stable but I am not able to pull the sliders for graphics as far out as I have heard should be possible. So my question was should I add a Samsung EVO 250GB SSD mindbearing that I already have a hybrid SSD/HDD that gives me a fairly fast startup or should I consider upgrading within the confines of the existing machine and my retiree budget? Hence my check question to this forum. Thanks again for the valid comments and I will check out the relevant FSX/X Plane fora to see if they offer anything along my constrained lines. That is the part of load up that transfers data from the SSD/HDD to RAM so it can be used by the CPU. So if you want the overall system to have a more snappy feel when you open new programs then a SSD is the way to go. But in terms of performance it won't matter for games, unless you were always maxing out RAM and Windows started using Page File (does this automatically) to keep the game from crashing. Even then though it would be advisable to add more RAM not an SSD to alleviate that kind of problem. However you are playing a really special niche game so it is possible that it really does want to eat more RAM, even past your 16 GB, if you are trying to twist every knob to max settings. Those simulation games can get really serious about just how much of the real world they are recreating. This is probably something you'd need to check up on in the game forums. In terms of just visuals that's more likely related to the GPU as opposed to the CPU/RAM. The 1060 is the low card but not the bottom card by any means, followed by 1070 > 1070 Ti > 1080 > 1080 TI > Titan. The resolution you are running the game at matters too, more pixels = more strain on the GPU. I see you have a 1440p screen. You could try dropping the game resolution to 1080p and the other graphics settings higher. It may or may not look better, its really in the eye of the beholder. Sorry long response. Get a SSD if you just want a quality of life improvement on the current rig. Otherwise just hold strong with what you have and wait for when a more substantial total upgrade is possible." 9. Hi guys, Thanks for your comments. In realitet I have spent the last few months dealing with family illness and a very careful review, update and tuning of my system where I am currently seeing how much realistic effect there is in OCing CPU and GPU (as well as dealing with the Fall Creators Update and the latest Meltdown challenges). All has gone well but I am still working on Afterburner to get some reasonably stable FPS numbers before making the quantum jump to Steve's DX10 Fixer. I had it on my previous machine but I have now spent 12 months getting my new (for me at least) machine in stable balance so I can get back to my navigation training. I plan on updating this entry with final conclusions when DX10 is stable Thanks Schaefer
  10. Thanks to Hiflyer and ualani. I guess that the only way forward is a reinstall. Fortunately as a FSX longtime user one has experience so I am in the midst of that enjoyable task. Thanks and Happy landings. Regards Schaefer/Bruce
  11. Hej Jim, Sorry for the confusion. The upgrade I referred to was version 3.4 of Steve's DX10 Fixer, whicn I have used for years. With regards to scenery I have the relevant Orbx products for Europa but I am using FSX Scenery Manager where I only use the relevant areas/airports. The tving that bugs må is that I see the extremely fast jump in the loading bar that tells me that the program is not loading aircraft, terræn or sceneriet and thereby crashing the program. Thanks for the tip on AddonConverterX, I'll take a look at that. I'm affald that Steam in some way har changed something when berøring files gradvis causing a conflict and I Guess I Know the answer for that!!! Best regards Bruce
  12. In connection with setup of a new monitor ASUS P277B I verified the Steam files and subsequently checked all addons, scenery paths etc. My system is now working fine in DX9 with acceptable FPS for my machine (specs below). I then proceeded to upgrade to the latest DX10 version as I have worked with DX10 before and it worked OK on my old rig. Now when staring FSX SE I cannot see the aircraft screen and should I choose 'Free Flight ' to fly the standard C172 the progress bar immediately jumps to around 82% and 100% immediately afterwards. The screen remains black and I have no other alternative other than to close down. I have checked the FSX path (I have Steam installed on a separate drive.) but fail to see what exactly is happening. I know that this subject has been discussed before but cannot anything at the moment that gives appropriate corrective input. Obviously i am doing something wrong so I would appreciate if anybody can cast some light on how to move forward. My specs: Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit version 1607 fully updated Intel Core i7-4771 CPU @ 3.50 GHz, (OC 3.8 Ghz turbo mode) 16GB DDR-3 RAM 1600MHz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6Gb ASUS PB277Q Monitor Process Lasso ASN2016, ORBX , local Airports EKRK , EKCH DZ10 guidelines followed for NVI and asper NZ Howto Thansk for your guidance Regards Schaefer/Bruce
  13. Hi, Regret the delay in getting this done. Here are the errors I am experiencing. Since the I have reinstalled the C++ and all SE SimConnect files which appears to have fixed the problems. Scenery was a problem until I reinstalled my ORBX files so it looks as if I am good except for this Scenery.cfg error where I have done a reinstall/update of my SimStarter which has confirmed that my sceneries are working correctly. I recall seeing some guidance on this type of issue and will go and see where I can find it. So, so far we are rolling again I have decent fps so maybe I can start doing some flying again. Happy flying Schaefer
  14. Hi Charlieaeron. Mes culpa - I was speedreading and John is the author og the article to i refered to .... OK??? Schaefer
  15. Hej Jim, Thanks for the speedy feedback. I have just acquired a new monitor and have upgraded the graphics files whicn worked well with fsx se for the last few weeks until I went for the files verification feature.... I'll try and get the screenshots posted tomorrow. Tanks Schaefer
